The Golden State Warriors Summer League Team IS DEADLY!!

so on Saturday the Golden State Warriors crushed the Miami Heat by a score of 105 to 66 four players scored in double figures Ethan Thompson led the team with 27 points Off the Bench Thompson was a four-year player at Oregon State he came off the bench Midway through the first quarter and immediately went to work scoring 10 points in six minutes on four of four shooting including one of one Beyond The Arc it’s just funny to me because Thompson of course Klay Thompson so to see another Thomson for the Warriors letting up the scoreboard it’s just awesome to see you also have to give credit to plowden he scored 26 he’s an undrafted free agent who played 5 years of college basketball at Bowling Green he shot 10 of 14 from the field including six of nine from distance in 23 minutes he scored 13 points in six third quarter minutes making all five of his shots three of which were from distance at one point he dropped 11 consecutive points the Warriors also got an impressive performance from Pat Spencer in their opener who had 165 and five Spencer was drafted first in the 2019 Premier Lacrosse League PLL it’s probably what he’s most famous for as being an incredible lacrosse player but he decided to do a career in basketball and it definitely would pay off I guess he was actually only with the Wizards g- League affiliate and then he ended up signing with the Golden State Warriors which their G League of course is the Santa Cruz Warriors he played with them on a two-way contract which means that he was going back and forth between the NBA roster and the g- league he spent time practicing with Clay Draymond and Steph Curry and he learned a lot about the game and the hard work that goes into it but the defense for the Warriors is what was the most impressive not they scoring I mean I get that they put up a lot of points but they held the heat to 28.9% shooting including 25.8% from Beyond The Arc whenever we think of those teams with Steph and clay and Draymond and even KD that won those championships it’s always about the offense but it was actually the defense for the Warriors that won them those championships they could absolutely lock down teams some of the best offensive teams like the rockets for example that 2018 2019 Rockets team that was just unbelievably talented I mean they had trouble scoring on the Warriors and it’s a large reason why the warriors were able to come back in that Series and win of course and then against the Celtics was no exception the defense for the Warriors was just absolutely mesmerizing reys Beakman’s a guy who’s looked like a vet very young player 6 fo2 pure point guard pass first player but he’s a capable shooter he’s just come in and scored the basketball had 10 points and three of seven shooting including two of three from Deep former ACC Defensive Player of the Year as well the reason why a lot of these young guys for the Warriors have been getting opportunities is because of course peski is with the US select team and so is Jackson Davis these two young studs for the Warriors so the Warriors just don’t have a lot of NBA caliber players rostered through the first couple games like most teams do so we’ve seen guys that are undrafted or guys who are on two-ways be able to come in and showcase what they can do and it’s worked out in a big way I mean the Warriors second round pick Quinton post missed his second straight game as he continues to ramp up from a minor leg injury so there’s just opportunities for some of these other guys like Pat Spencer for example Yuri Collins is the guy who’s been missing time and now all of a sudden you’ve got plowden Kevin Knox getting opportunities Manz as well Knox is a former lottery pick he was the ninth pick in the 2018 draft he’s a guy who hasn’t really been able to stay health the Lakers KNX struggled because you could tell he’s sort of trying to get healthy and just figure his game out he was 04 from the free throw line did hit a three in the second half had a couple the steals but really outside of that just wasn’t too much out of Knox I mean he had seven points five assists and four boards in 19 minutes but he was three of 10 from the field he’s a guy that definitely if he continues to elevate his game could be on the opening day roster just because again he’s a former lottery pick so the potential is there and that does matter to it seem like the Warriors but plowden Thompson and Balden these are the guys that stood out the most against the Lakers Thompson was Golden State’s leading score for the second consecutive game dropping 22 points in the starting lineup after scoring 27 off the bench on Saturday Thompson he just hasn’t been scoring he grabbed 11 rebounds which was a game high and he continues to play high level defense he had three steals cloudin had 14 points eight rebounds and two block shots mantis scored 12 points Off the Bench the Warriors next game is Wednesday against the Kings I honestly to this point would be shocked if they don’t end up going undefeated in the summer league back-to-back blowouts you can see that guys are coming together playing well they’ve got a lot of chemistry and the Warriors they just attack the basket they get after you defensively they rebound the ball and they can pass of course this is still a Warriors team even though it’s their summer league team allall movement’s always been huge for the Warriors especially ever since Steve Curry even Mark Jackson go back to that far I mean these two guys both were point guards guys that were great passers and had high AQ so that’s definitely rubbed off on this young Warriors team but really outside of that the biggest things to talk about for the Warriors are going to be have they put themselves in a position to win the West because every team seems to be getting better OKC Dallas the Minnesota Timberwolves are getting better and then we see even a team like the Sacramento Kings that have gone out and got better the Warriors they’ve gotten better too they haven’t made a huge type of Splash move no Paul George which is something that they tried to do but they go out there and they get the Anthony melon who from somebody who covered the Grizzlies when he had his career Year back in it’s actually when the Warriors and The Grizzlies ran into each other but Melton’s a 40% three-point shooter when he’s healthy he’s an elite Defender he can rebound he’s extremely athletic he can play the two next to Steph he’s also on a very Team friendly deal because he wasn’t really that healthy last season which meant that he’s going to get more money because teams are going to question that so this is sort of just banking on the potential he’s just 26 years old and yeah Melton I mean he’s a guy would have gotten at least 20 million annually if he hadn’t missed so many so much time I think he missed like 33 or 34 games last season he’s going to be perfect for the Warriors because this is a team that they just need more quality defense on the perimeter and they also need a guy that can knock down open three balls which is why they went out and they got buddy heeld one of the best Shooters in the league nobody’s made more threes than buddy hee since 2017 besides Steph Curry who’s his new teammate he’ll chose the Warriors over the Pistons and the Lakers which makes sense because the Warriors gives him the most upside the Lakers are a mess the Pistons obviously are garbage and then the Warriors are kind of a mystery right now they could be a playing team they could win the championship I really don’t know but all I do know is that buddy heeld is a huge addition to the Warriors and so is DeAnthony Melton and they also did get Kyle Anderson who’s got length and size in them he’s probably a 15 to 20 minutes per game player at best but his defense and he can knock an open threes he’ll be a good f for the Warriors for sure looking at other news for the Warriors I mean seev Curry talked about it and he said it best that he just wants to win he wants to be into a situation where he’s has on a team that’s committed to doing that right I mean I I expect Steph to fully retire a warrior but it’s also putting the piece around him because this is the end of Steph’s Prime Steph is not regressed he’s not washed he’s still one of the best Shooters and scorer he he’s still easily the best shooter and he’s still one of the best scores and just players overall in basketball even as age now but this is it for Steph right a couple more seasons and you know father time is going to catch up to him unfortunately I wish I couldn’t say that because I grew up watching Steph and man I don’t want to see him go but this is the last chance he’s going to have to win a championship on the Warriors and that’s why it’s so important for them to go out there and upgrade the roster I think it’s a start but in order for the Warriors to have a chance at a championship I think they need one more piece right if they do go out there and they get Lorie Markin in we’re having a completely different discussion I’m going to be talking about yeah the Warriors are winning another their Championship but until then I think they’re a team that’s probably a six to an a seed a team that certainly nobody would want in The playe A Team that certainly nobody would want in the first round but man I mean this young summer league team looks exciting and of course the Warriors they’ve got some young rookies and seconde players that are fun as well so even if the Warriors don’t win the championship next year they’re still going to be a very promising team for the future and I mean Steph he’s going to be content with that he’s already got four championships and he’s already won VPS and he’s a top 10 player to ever do it now it’s just about helping develop these young guys and just give your team a chance to win every single night

  1. Warriors NEVER pick up any of these players! Ugh

Even though they look like they can help bigtime

  2. Guys that spend more time in college are usually more mature & has gotten more Hoops under their belt. Can provide immediate impact where ever they go

  3. Rockets have the best summer league roster imo. Reed Sheppard, Cam Whitmore, AJ Griffin, Kira Lewis Jr, N’faly Dante, and Jermaine Samuel’s

  4. Too bad that Kerr is not the type who gives chances to newbies until maybe on their 2nd or 3rd year and that's all garbage time. So if you are a rookie then whatever team that Kerr is coaching on – that is the team you would want to avoid.

  5. Great work on the coverage of the SL team. In my opinion though. I think Steph is still chasing for another championship. As a Steph fan, I am convinced he wants one more than LeBron.
