video Caleb Martin is personally my favorite signing of the off season getting a role player with big boy balls Just Hits different when past Sixers teams have had so many different role guys that just shrivel up in the big moments and are scared to even shoot the basketball more than two times a game having Kelly UB and him alongside the big three is huge because they have irrational confidence they can shoot 15% from the field one night and they would not care and most importantly it won’t affect their aggressiveness and I can still trust them to hit a big shot in a big moment even if they’re shooting terribly and defensively they make an impact pretty much every single night that means more to me than just being a 40% three-point shooter Caleb Martin is going to bring a toughness and confidence to the team that is needed from the role players while actually having a skill set to back it up reports are that he turned down more money to come to the Sixers mainly I feel like that is because the Sixers probably guaranteed him a starting spot but also at lowkey believe he will have more offensive Freedom here and I think that’s something he could have valued his fit with Tyrese Maxi is awesome he handled a ton in college and has a good handle for his size at the NBA level and with maxi and Paul George being so lethal off the ball I can see Caleb Martin having a point forward roll more often than he did in Miami there is definitely more there if you Empower him offensively he’s going to be a great connector for any lineup he’s in because he can get it done passing wise in so many different situations he’s not going to be guarded by the best perimeter Defender so here the heat take advantage with Buddy heeld on him they clear out one side give him a screen great execution force a switch so he feeds his big man now he has Patty Mills on him so they give him a screen off the ball he loses Mills and catches and immediately knows hero is butt booty naked in the corner a left-handed weak hand pass by the way and he’s not afraid of screening I think he will be screening for Tyrese Maxi a lot he has The Rock and the bigest sagging off of him he goes into a dribble handoff situation screens short roll and immediately makes the right decision against torono the Heat had him bringing up the ball pretty consistently now you got Chris bue on the perimeter where he isn’t comfortable then you got an off Ball action for bam he will find him this time he locates Josh Richardson running off screens he can make the right pass in almost any situation because he has great Point guardes instincts don’t get me wrong he’s not a perfect passer sometimes he processes things slow he will miss guys at times and because he can go cold from Deep defenses will sag off of him which can disrupt the flow making passing Lanes a little tougher but overall going over the film he’s a great connected piece and a guy I trust playing off of Maxi embid and Paul George because he’s going to be gifted four on three situations driving lanes and things like that and he’s super confident and I think he will do well in that role one of my pet peeves for the Sixers in recent seasons is in this situation where a guy like Jimmy gets doubled for the Sixers obviously this would be Joel embiid the only option would be Swing Swing and shoot the three 99.1% of the time they would rarely have guys who look or take the open driving lane or space given to them Caleb Martin actually looks to attack in open space because he’s not the most consistent three-point shooter at times he’s also super quick off the catch attacking Closeouts in space which results in him getting to the rim over his Miami Heat career he sh 68% at the rim and 53% from the two-point region personally I’m just sick of one trick ponies Caleb Martin can go hot and cold for deep for sure he’s going to get sagged off of at times they’re going to put Rim protectors on him so that rim protector can roam he shot 34% last season but the fact that he can put it on the ground handle like a point guard he’s got some self- creation ability every now and again and he also wants and looks to attack the open space and attack the rim and actually has the ability to finish or Draw contact for a foul somewhat consistently that three-point percentage doesn’t really bother me because the honest truth is every playoff series you can’t rely on shots from Deep you saw that with Josh Hart every single shot versus the Sixers he made against the Indiana Pacers he shot like 177% on wide open looks in my opinion one big problem Sixers role players have had is offensively they are three-point or bust because they can’t get to the basket Rim pressure driving outside of Tyrese Maxi and Kelly UB was just non-existent and it cooked them in many aspects half court offense and especially transition scoring I mean how many points do the Sixers leave on the board because they don’t want to take an open driving lane or they miss a contested layup he’s a unique player offensively he’s like Josh Hart teams will sag off of him because he isn’t a crazy shooting threat but weirdly Caleb Martin still can save a possession by creating a shot for himself if the ball lands in his lap he can hit tough contested off the dribble mid-range shots and it hurts every time he does because the defense is like that’s the shot we are willing to give up why does he have to hit that he doesn’t do it at an elite level but the fact he has it it can be very valuable considering he would be one of the last options in the starting unit plus with his handle and size he can get to his spots pull up and even hit the defender with a couple dribble moves and randomly hit a turnaround jumper he will hit off balance step back jumpers out of nowhere and weirdly even though he’s not a deadly three-point shooter in big moments or momentum changing shots that can really stomp A team out I really trust him to hit those shots more than anyone else on the court he had so many big moments for the heat during their finals run two seasons ago he kind of has everything in his offensive toolbox he just doesn’t do anything at an elite level and sometimes it’s very inconsistent hence why he’s a role guy but quite honestly he’s one of the best role players in the NBA in the past few seasons not only that but he’s going to make an impact defensively he can guard multiple positions he’s a pest on and off the ball he does the dirty work very well a legit two-way player and most NBA fans believe Eric spolo is one of the best coaches in the league here’s a quote from him talking about what he likes about Martin’s game certainly his quick twitch his speed his quickness on both ends of the Court he has a great ability to put the ball on the floor and make some plays he can spot and he can shoot he can play off the ball he’s a great cutter defensively he’s extremely versatile he can guard a lot of guys in closing it’s clear he can do a little bit of everything and he will bring toughness and confidence to the team personally I did not believe we had a chance to sign him out after signing Paul George since most of our cap was gone I thought he would go for a lot more money the Sixers really got a steal on this one and personally I believe Caleb Martin’s best basketball
