[Music] some more breaking news here in NBA free agency as the Philadelphia 76ers are bringing back the hometown kid Kyle Lowry agreeing to a one-year contract to return to the Sixers this is a good depbt piece for Philadelphia to round out their bench bring in a vetman player who’s affordable but last year down the stretch played really well for the Sixers was a part of that playoff rotation an extension of the head coaching Nick nurse on the floor a player who Nick nurse is very familiar with and we’ve been talking about this possibility for a while here on the show and all those are here it is free agent guard Kyle Lowry has agreed to a deal to return to Philadelphia sources tell the athletic and Stadium Kyle Lowry is going to be able to fulfill a couple of different roles for the Sixers here if you need him to start some nights he can do that and he did that with the Sixers on this team now he’s most likely going to come in Off the Bench I imagine the starting five is still going going to be Tyrese Maxie Kelly UB Paul George cayb Martin Joel embiid but if you want to mix things up a little bit switch things up pivot if somebody gets hurt somebody has a rest night you know that Kyle Lowry is more than capable of still starting games in this league and in the playoffs I thought in moments he played well against the Knicks the numbers in the 23 games played with the Sixers after he was a buyout candidate by the Charlotte Hornets after he was sent there in the Terry Rosier trade from Miami to the Hornets eight points per game 42 assists per night 44 and a half% from the field and more than 40% from three if Kyle Lowry gives you those numbers this upcoming season that is a huge win he’s also going to come at a very affordable rate there was some chatter that the Phoenix Suns were interested in his Services the suns are a team that I think needs to get better point guard play last year it was Bradley playing out of position often times who had to bring the ball up and because of that that Sun’s offense was clunky they didn’t have anybody to really pressure the rim initiate the offense so Lowry was looked at as a fit there he was looked at as a fit to the Los Angeles Clippers as they look to get rid of Russell Westbrook and bring in maybe a depth option behind James Harden but Kyle Lowry a player who can hit the three I think chip the creation is still there he still gives you defense he’s a very gritty player he helps as a leader he helps as a high IQ basketball player we know that Kyle Lowry will always set a charge and yes sometimes it comes down to a flop but if he gets the call he gets the call but most importantly vetman can still play can serve a couple of different roles on ball off ball I like it and this is something that we predicted and wanted to see happen and I think it’s going to be applauded by lot of Sixers fans right now in the comment section yeah exactly look we have been talking about Kyle Larry for a long time to bring him back for another season after he had a stellar year for the Sixers after he arrived after that trade deadline and when we were surveying this Sixers roster still a lot of open roster spots left but they have no money of course so Sixers are just looking at veteran minimum targets right that’s it and when you look at all the vent and targets Kyle Lowry is right up there yeah as some of the best vetman targets left on the board for the seers to sign and it just made so much sense right like why s KY Lowry Elsewhere for the last few years of his career let him stay in Philly where it’s home where he had such a great second half of the season and playoff Run for the Sixers and I love the fit as well because you know he can start certain nights if you absolutely need him to but coming off that bench he can play on ball if you want McCain to play off Ball come coming off the bench or Lowry can play off ball and you can have McCain play on ball so I think you also really needed a veteran presence in that locker room to help teach McCain and sort of you know if McCain isn’t ready to go right away you need a backup point guard maybe the Sixers never thought McCain was a backup point guard anyways maybe they see him more as a two as an offguard look regardless we’ve been talking about about this for a while it just made too much sense for the Sixers not to go bring back Kyle Lowry I’m glad it happened going to be a one-year deal minimum and he’s going to honestly outperform that minimum contract if he can keep up with what he was able to do this past season look culture matters leadership matters veteran experience matters Kyle Lowry is somebody who has won an NBA championship he’s very accomplished in this league he won that title with the Toronto Raptors he’s a six time NBA Allstar and that was all consecutive from 2015 through 2020 so he’s not really far removed from being an All-Star player in this league all NBA third team player back in 2016 and he’s made so many stops throughout his career and I’m glad that this might be the last stop for the Philadelphia native he gets drafted out of Villanova back in 2006 first round 24th overall I’ve grown up with Kyle Lowry it’s crazy as a basketball fan he’s with the Grizzlies from 2006 to 09 Houston Rockets from 09 to 12 Toronto Raptors there for a long time he’s going to go down as one of the best players in the history of that organization he’s there for about a decade 2012 to 2021 then with the Miami Heat from 2021 through 2024 he never officially played with the Charlotte Hornets but what do smart organizations do smart organizations bring in players like this they value players like this so if Eric spola and Pat Riley who are two of the finest basketball mins in the world right now trusted Kyle Lowry goes to show you that he should be valued by Philadelphia he certainly is and I think with how he played last year how he led the fact that he can hold up as part of a playoff rotation still at 38 years old is a big reason why Daryl M and Nick nurse were advocates for him coming back and it’s a cool story at the end of the day right he grows up in the Philly he went to Cardinal dockerty high school he goes to villain NOA early in Jay wri’s tenure from 2004 to 2006 a great player with that program he ends up being a first round pick and wherever he has gone he has hustled he has put in effort he has had toughness he has been gritty all of those adjectives if I use the right wording there journalism degree at Temple I just talk is it an adjective I think it is right um those are all part of the fabric of Philadelphia and so it’s a cool story but it’s also a really good basketball fit and it improves your squad as far as the depth that you have on the Sixers team he could play point guard he can play shooting guard he can still defend at a really good level and part of the reason why the Sixers were willing to move off of Patrick Beverly you weren’t going to get that same defensive intensity or same defens to play maybe you take a little bit of a drop off there as far as the defense goes but Kyle Lowry as an offensive player a lot better and it’s not like you saw a huge gap between Patrick Beverly and Kyle Lowry there were so many Rumblings behind the Sixers adding Kyle Lowry via the buyout Market they do and then
