“NO one wants to go to Lakers!” – NBA Gametime reacts to DeMar DeRozan joins Kings in sign-and-trade

the free agency front dear Rosen finally came off the free agent board late Saturday agreeing to a 3year $74 million free agent contract as part of a sign and trade that takes him to Sacramento Harrison Barnes lands in San Antonio’s part of the deal Chris dwarte is now headed to the Chicago Bulls the six-time All-Star D rozan average 24 for the Bulls last season was in Sacramento for Summer League games on Saturday night and they were fired about his appearance there and why shouldn’t they be Sam it’s a really good player he’s the same age as Paul George super productive he’s been great at the end of games particularly last season makes a lot of sense for the Sacramento gam well the leadership and his ability to score clutch baskets down the stretch he’s one of the best mid-range players that we have in the game today and then when you look at his years in San Antonio going to play for po becoming a facilitator becoming a more complete player so when you watch DeMar I got a chance to see him early in his career in Toronto he went from being a guy a score to a guy that can do everything on both ends of the fourth so this is a huge pickup for the Sacramento gam California Native back in his home state and I mentioned the clutch performances he was second last season in the clutch player of the year he’s now paired with the previous season’s clutch winner in dearon Fox the Kings should be way more formidable at the end of the games now well they can flat out score the basketball when you add the mar Rosen another guy individually that can go get Buckets and then you add him to the rest of this team Darren Fox and sabonis and others this team can flly score their problem though Matt has not been offense right it’s been defense so if Demar can bring that leadership and Mike Brown is going to lean on him to get these young guys to understand you don’t compete for championships unless you play defense they got the offense now they just got to bring the defense along defense got slightly better last year for Sacramento the only question on offense really for me and it’s always a question with d Rosen is the spacing particularly with sabonis being such an important part of their offense yeah and Matt they’re not going to be one of the best three-point shooting teams but at the end of the day if you get theend to get out of the transition and score the way they can score it’s going to come down to their defensive possession and they don’t have to be great they just got to continue to get better at that position and the next thing they need to meet they need some size they got to help sabonis out on the glass A little bit he’s a undersized Center he’s great handling the ball with the dhos and things like that LE at the league and triple doubles for a big guy but they need some more size if they’re gon to compete in tough Western big pickup for the Kings meanwhile international basketball is heating up Luka donic team Slovenia just outside Athens to face Giannis on Dupo and team Greece in an olympic qualifying semifinal yanis pretty good in any country he was six of 12 in this game he got away with a hook right there physical game International LCA donic we’ve seen this before five of nine from three-point range shorter line and fiva basketball he had 21 but they were overmatched against the Greeks who led by as many as 31 easy day for Giannis and so Greece meets Croatia Sunday with a spot in the Olympic field on the line there were 24 teams at the start of the week they will Whittle down to four after these four qualifying finals also Brazil Lafia the Bahamas against Spain Lithuania and Puerto Rico meanwhile the world’s toughest team to make has gathered in Las Vegas Team USA begins training camp looking to win a fifth straight Olympic gold the red white and blue will play five exhibition games before Paris starting with Canada on Wednesday Sam as usual no country no country has the depth of talent that the United States will bring to the games but they’re really good teams waiting for the us out there including the host nation France with Victor wanyama among others including Canada which beat the US in the World Cup last summer different roster oh yeah the World Cup champs Germany Spain if they qualify on Sunday what will be the key for the Americans well we we know all these guys know how to check their ego at the door my biggest thing is look at our age this is an older basketball team we got Anthony Edwards He’s probably the youngest guy here in halberton on this team but we are older team so I’m concerned about rest about minutes and just about guys not breaking down so if we can keep our team healthy we have the right mentality all these guys understand they got to check the ego at the door they understand they’re playing for something bigger than themselves I expect the US team to come out and play well when you got a team led by LeBron James and others I mean you said it this team is stacked and then you add The Bigs like Joel embiid I mean that’s a game changer right there but it’s going to be tough because you said it Canada is really good really good France is big long athletic with a lot of young players Spain and others this is going to be an Olympics that we’re going to have to go out and earn the gold medal this year that’s just some of the names who are expected to participate in parison I’m very interested in two players in particular for Team USA you mentioned one of them a moment ago and the US scored a huge Victory when they landed Joel embiid to play for the United States he could have played for France for Congo he could have played for Congo his native country and tried to qualify through uh through through qualifying to get to to Paris the most accomplished available free agent remaining is no longer remaining with the mar Rosen agreeing to a sign and trade three-year deal in Sacramento more on what he means to the Kings a little later on in the show hey everybody it’s a summertime edition of game time here from our Atlanta Studio Sam Mitchell I’m Matt Weiner good to have you with us got Olympic qualifying happening the WNBA of course happening as well there’s a lot going on right now in the basketball world but we’ll start with a second gen the most important thing of all those things of course second gen summer league debut 21 years ago it was this guy LeBron James as an 18-year-old starting out his pro career first in Orlando then in Boston the number one overall pick was just on his way with more than 40,000 points still ahead of him well Matt he looks different than most every first game that I you know step in the next level it’s it’s always some butterflies in my stomach um but as soon as the the ball tips and we go a couple down couple times down and it all goes away and I you know just playing basketball so it’s always going to be there but you know get through it the atmosphere it was you know more than I expected I I mean it’s it’s it’s a big game for me but I didn’t know um you know people Golden State would come and and and and rep for me so that was pretty nice to see come on man that’s tough that’s tough get loose that was LeBron James of course with Team USA in Las Vegas watching his son make his sonad isn’t that absolutely a dad a dad High School dad that’s it and just a dad now a teammate dad which is unprecedented in NBA history and the scrutiny is going to be ridiculous the numbers were you know yeah I mean who cares it’s summer league right it’s the first game of Summer League what did you see on the floor well he looks like he understands how to play obviously he knows how for a 61 guy so even though he’s a lot smarter than his dad he’s athletic he’s smart he understands the game it’s just going to take him some time to find his Niche he’s a point guard by Statue he’s a point guard so it’s going to take him some time and you got to remember he had the the illness and then he only played really three quarters of a season at USC so he hasn’t played a lot of basketball in the last two years as for their number one uh first round pick I should say Dalton connect he’s a scorer that’s what he does he’s a shooter that’s what the Lakers need it’s an obvious fit oh it’s perfect look your coach is JJ re he made a living as a small shooting two guard this kid is a lot bigger but he’s just got to get comfortable moving and being shot ready like right then every time he moves he’s got to have his hands up move without the ball because he’s playing with LeBron James and AD and they’re going to find you if he can move without the ball get his shot ready to make shots then he would be everything the Lakers need this is the thing he’s going to have to work on learning how to shoot off the dribble but when you’re playing for the Lakers with LeBron James just get to your spots and be ready to lock and if you’re playing LeBron James wait for a pass launch ready that’s it if you hit enough of those you get to stay on the floor man you get to stay on the floor a long time win a lot of games and make a lot of money all true all right meanwhile also in California and sacr as far as Castle goes I mentioned the playmaking obviously won a championship there one year at Yukon best case scenario what is he for the Spurs their point guard of the future you look at that size 65 and a half if he can get that shot come off screens like this and knock down shots or get into the paint and shoot those fotos at 65 his bill reminds you of who drew holiday of the Boston Celtics and his size gives him such an advantage and we’ve seen come playoff time when you got point guard 6566 that can play both hands of the ball that can switch out on larger Defenders that can get in the paint and use their size to finish oversiz then you got something special so when you look at the Spurs for their future they’re looking at a 6566 point guard that they can develop and grow with Victor and now you to your point they got Chris Paul there for one year to teach this kid and show them the ropes they got a chance San Antonio is slowly starting to put together the type of team to build around Victor that he’s going to need to be successful added another piece on Saturday as well we’ve got details of that later on Castle you know how this works in summer league first round picks are featured had the ball in his hands L just a single turnover in his debut again it’s [Music] video fore foreign spee for spe spe [Music] e e name [Music] en for spee 1. " Well, he had the heart condition, so he hasnt really played in 2 years" and the fact that when he did play play in college, he averaged 4pts a game is just 2 of the reasons he is not for the NBA.. smh.

  2. LeBron has messed up the Lakers … Noone wants to be sitting on the bench because their letting LeBrons son play… These guys have earned their spots and he was giving it because they didn't wanna lose his daddy… Kobe would be turning in his grave if he heard this… Bronn should've of just stayed in school and waited for his daddy to buy his team…

  3. The Kings have the best 3pt shooter in NBA history for his 1st few seasons in Murray. He is ahead of Steph, Allen and Mitchell since his rookie season in makes and percentage. He shoots above 41% so saying the Kings don’t have 3pt shooting is not accurate. Not to mention Lyles, Huerter still there, Ellis and Fox’s improvement.

  4. Bronny already achieved his HS average in the NBA.. 4 pts. Achievement for sure, can't go wrong anymore. Great job papa

  5. Why everybody hating on lebron James. 🤣 And I know he is done too . and I got the feeling curry will surpass him in rings. Because lebron don't have the instincts or energy to play like he use too.

  6. Lebron dont give one hell about haters he mever disgrace game or cheat the game a billion dollar man 4 rings 22 season final mvp all-star ever season what you'll doing with you'll life watching 😂 the king 👑 😂

  7. Playing with LeBron is loke being in own house paid for album this MF make the rules lol…No real man would play next to that type of dude you have to be 2nd to LeBron 1st..so F LeBron playing with not the man.

  8. If AD wants to salvage his legacy he needs to ask for a trade. Bron dgaf about winning cause he knows he can’t. He’s taking the ship down with him so his son can play and he can’t have yes men in positions

  9. Joel imbid is a sell out you will never be an American even if u wanted to. The Olimpics is to represent your homeland and to be proud of it. Yeah it’s so easy you got the best players in the world with you.

  10. IT'S ALL MONEY MATTERS THE LAKERS CAN'T GIVE THE AMOUNT THE STAR PLAYERS WANTS & OF COURSE DAN HURLEY IF I WANT TO GET A STAR PLAYER & A HIGH 1Q BASKETBALL COACH YOU HAVE TO OFFER THEM BIG TIME ROB PELINKA IS SCARED & ALSO JEANNIE BUSS WHAT A WASTE

  11. Sam Mitchell had always annoyed me when talking about the Kings. I know he doesn't watch their games because his comments are short, generic, and vague. Sounding like someone's drunk uncle at a cookout.
The only thing he got right was a backup for Sabonis (that may happen at trade deadline). Last season the Kings were 14th in defense compared to to 25th the year before. And while that's not Mike Brown's standard, that a huge improvement for the org, who's always been subpar on defense. The Nuggets were 15th on defense when they won their championship.
Never mind 3-pt shooting – they have 2 of the best clutch players in the league (Fox and DeRozen).
