🚨BREAKING: Philadelphia 76ers SIGN KJ Martin In NBA Free Agency | 76ers News & Instant Reaction

we have some breaking news Sixers fans as the 76ers have resigned KJ Martin to a 2-year $16 million contract as reported by Adrien Rose rowski I’m producer chip here on 76ers now if you’re not help us reach 20,000 Subs here on the channel and hit that sub button so KJ Martin officially resigning again to that 2-year $16 million deal the Sixers had his bird rights so even though they are well over the cap and nearing the luxury tax they’re able to go over that and resign KJ Martin again with those bird rights and we’ve talked about the possibility of KJ Martin coming back for a while now it just made too much sense because the Sixers could really only hand out minimum deals outside of bringing back KJ Martin he’s really the only guy that could pay more than that vet Min since they had his bird rights and there’s two things you have to consider here with this KJ Martin resigning and we’ll discuss them both here one he can come in try to prove himself as a young player $8 million a year maybe he can fit in the Sixers rotation the other option is he can get traded at this year’s trade deadline so we’ll explore both of those options here first you know just as a player young guy came over in the James hard and trade and you know he’s an athletic power forward can really get up and catch those lobs has some potential I’d say on the defensive end but really didn’t get a lot of Run for the 76ers this past year 58 games played Just 12 minutes a game under four points a game 54% from the field so you know while he has some decent traits again being that athlete and being that lob threat he really hasn’t been able to develop enough as an offensive player not a great three-point shooter but again certainly still young and certain intriguing now what really is interesting with this signing is the potential for trade you look at all the other moves the Sixers have made this offseason and it has been a very busy off season for darl Mor and the 76ers obviously signing Paul George bringing in Andre Drummond Eric Gordon Cayla Martin and then resigning Tyrese Maxi Kyle Lowry Kelly UB and now KJ Martin really a mix of bringing back some of the better pieces from last year and then obiously adding some of the big names and death to fell at the roster so KJ Martin could fit in there as a potential foran but when you look at the guys they’ve signed you know you think about ways they can upgrade this roster come trade deadline you’re obviously not going to trade Maxi and be Paul George other than that you’re not really paying anybody all too much money right you know uh Kelly UB coming in around that $8 million-ish Mark but I don’t really see the Sixers wanting to trade him and then they just have a bunch of vetman guys you know Andre Drummond down there on 5 million so they don’t really have a lot of salaries to trade which if they had just gone out and fill out this roster with vet Min guys they wouldn’t have had a whole lot of flexibility despite having some picks that they can move the deadline they wouldn’t have had the financial flexibility that they need especially with the new apron rules and aggregating salaries together to go out and and make a significant upgrade but now by paying KJ Martin this 2-year $16 million deal at $8 million a year you you open up your options right because now you can use this 8 million in a potential trade come this trade deadline now again I’m not saying that they made this signing specifically with that in mind to trade him but what have we been talking about here on the show for a while the ability of the Sixers had to give Caleb Martin or excuse me KJ Martin up to a Max contract and it was all some very weird Financial stuff here but again because they had his bird rights they were able to resign him up to about $30 million a year and the idea with that was as we explained to match salaries now a lot of people will say well why can they just give him some money sign and trade him now for someone like dor infiny Smith there’s a special stipulation a rule that applies to KJ Martin with his salary where if he were to be signed and traded right away his outgoing salary would only count for 50% for matching purposes so for example he’s making $8 million this year if they try to trade him right now his salary would only count for $4 million and obviously that’s not going to cut it when you’re trying to trade for a player like adorian finy Smith who we’ve talked about as a Target and has been linked to the 76ers they’ve apparently done their due diligence there but I wouldn’t expect a move with KJ Martin signing to come if it does come until the trade deadline so now you think about assuming he does stay let let’s just think about if KJ Martin stays at least until the trade deadline what what could this Sixers roster and rotation look like you know I imagine the starting lineup is going to Maxi UB Paul George Cayla Martin now people are going to say ub’s not going to play the two Paul George can play the two I I doesn’t really matter positions you know you’re going to have UB Paul George Caleb Martin starting at the two through four in some aspect and then obviously EMB at the five and now Off the Bench you know bringing back Lowry was huge we talked about that on the show yesterday a veteran point guard who played very well for the Sixers has that playoff experience obviously won a championship with Nick nurse so I like the idea of bringing him back you have Jared McCain who I think Sixers feel more comfortable with him as an off ball guard but he does have some ability on ball that he shown in the summer league so far and then you have Ricky Council who has been just lighting it up so far in the summer league decided to watch more of him as the summer progresses obviously Andre Drummond but now you kind of can slide in KJ Martin into that backup four spot the Sixers were were very thin at that four position didn’t really have any bodies that fit your typical you know power forward uh we talked on the show possibly bringing back a Marcus moris and that’s certainly still in the cards the Sixers still need to Fel up their roster and now that they reigned KJ Martin they really can only have veteran minimum deals so you’re looking at again players like a Marcus Morris maybe a player like a Jay Crowder because in a perfect world you know where does KJ Martin fit I I don’t think he’s you know he’s not someone you’re going to want to have playing come postseason time and that also I think factors in to the role that they gave him this 8 million as a trade chip so Maxi you have Kelly UB Paul George Caleb Martin beid and now at the bench you can run Lowry Jared McCain Ricky Council you know Eric Gordon fits in there you have KJ Martin you have Adam Bona who’s also looks very good in the summer league by the way so the roster really rounding out now rounding in form I think again you could still go out and sign a Marcus Morris to fill out that you know depth that you need in that front court but KJ Martin officially back on this 2-year $16 million deal we’ll see what other moves Dale Mory has up his sleeve but again keep in mind 8 million might sound like a lot for a player like KJ Martin but when you factor and the moves that can make the deadline that’s really where this salary and this contract comes into play again keep your eyes on dor Anthony Smith does make about $14 million this year but that KJ Martin salary can get you close and I really do think the Sixers made this move in mind to go after specifically Doran Anthony Smith because there has been reports from hoop site from Michael Scot that the Sixers were looking into the possibility of trading for Dori infiny Smith before they signed K Caleb Martin I think they’re still going to be interested to come to trade deadline the Nets obviously a selling team traded away Mikel Bridges they’re going to be tanking this year so can the Sixers possibly package Martin some salary filler a first round pick to go get Dorian F Smith at the deadline I think that’d be the perfect type of move for Daryl muray to make to really put this team in the best position moving forward Daryl muray always says that your the roster you enter the season with and the rotation you enter the season with is not the one that you’re going to finish the season with right and I think this is a move with that in mind that they can go out and get a dorany Smith maybe a cam Johnson from the Brooklyn Nets someone to really fill out that true starting four because they don’t really truly have one with you know either Paul George Kelly UB Caleb Martin whoever you want to say is a four starting there so I think this is a signing with some foresight and it and you know what if he’s really good then you have a good player eight million dollar if he happens to be able to contribute I wouldn’t count on that happening but I would assume he’s going to be mov but BREAKING Philadelphia 76ers news: The 76ers have re-signed KJ Martin to a 2-year, $16 million contract according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. 76ers free agency has been very busy with Paul George, Andre Drummond, Eric Gordon, Caleb Martin, Kyle Lowry, Tyrese Maxey & Kelly Oubre Jr. all signing with the 76ers this offseason.
