in the second round projected first round pick but he fell all the way down to the Spurs and the Spurs drafted him they treaded him to the Pacers and here he is he’s going to make his NBA debut and a Pacers uniform tonight on unlv’s uh floor I got him dropping 22 points then for the Brooklyn Nets I think their player to watch is going to be Derek Whitehead I got him dropping 26 and that is that is it Derek W have dropping 26 but I I do feel like um you know I guess you could say wheh head will be the player of the game but I feel like you have to put the winning team winning you know play of the game like player of the game has to be on the winning team you know what I’m saying so that’s that’s what we’re going with um hey it’s Ultima from the future Pacers win by 15.9 points sorry that’s unlb it has been 20 years in the making if you’re unfamiliar here’s what we got going on all 30 NBA teams are here with their young and recently drafted squads we’re going to play 76 games over 11 days and It All Leads up to the finals on July 22nd well welcome you of court side inside a Cox Pavilion here on day one it is the two time MVP of the W time WNBA Champion Candace Parker we’ll be joined by Taylor Rooks momentarily I’m Jared greenber coming up we’ve got the Indiana Pacers and the Brooklyn Nets Candace really intriguing matchup two teams going in opposite directions Indiana coming off the Eastern Conference Finals and they not only have some open roster spots but also the potential for some of these guys we’re going to see tonight to earn rotation minutes yes earning rotation minutes if you talk about a team that is looking for those guys because of the offense potency because they move the ball share the ball they need guys that can make the right play I just talked to Lloyd Pierce he talked about how Ben Sheard yes sir Ben Sheard mention deep into the playoffs for a roster only Derek Lively played deeper into the playoff from this rookie class played some key minutes 14 minutes point four points per game but they need him to be more aggressive scoring the basketball and I think that’s going to be on display for these Pacers today along with Walker Lloyd Pierce informing they need him to get downhill to rebound and to be physical so you’re looking at these two guys that have experience with this Pacers team Shephard playing in meaningful basketball which is is is a huge Advantage for a young player and then now being able to get into shape and let the coaches see a glimpse of what he could bring the next year that’s right Ben Shepard fans might recall started the last two games of the Eastern Conference Finals when Tyrese halberton was injured as for the Nets toal re they blowing this thing up but what’s really about the sum Le two top speed just so we can make sure we’re live players that got minutes on the Brooklyn Nets last season including a guy who finished the season really strong for Brooklyn Noah Clowney yes Noah on the Strip or inside Cox Pavilion right now I think it’s a tossup we we’ve been here all week my daughter had a National Volleyball tournament and when I tell you it was 118 it was 118 in the shade spot as a two-way player Brooklyn is going to be coached by Steve heitel pardon me Steve hsel who comes over from Portland and the head coach of the Indiana Pacers is Jano Pargo Jano Pargo I never heard him bro from the player yeah that’d be bad for business especially the AC is fired up in the building or hopefully sorry yeah I would hope made it sound like it was hot Olympic team not a bad gig for this summer but I mean all right here we go y’all time for tip off Pacers Nets first Summer League game let get a look and see how these young Pacers guys look you think Mike Brown was under wonder if there’s going to be some culture carry if there’s going to be some strategy carry um and what and how the Nets want to play well St Steve hsel there in the middle he’s talked in the last couple of days that just like you’re saying they want to play fast they want to share the ball Pacers are the fastest team in the NBA so were in hope he can uh do well this game tip off one by Brooklyn here we go 10 minute quarters two time outs per quarter and each individual would have to get to 10 fouls to foul out good defense for to way they got Ben Sheard lock up driving into the base line Falls loose there we go good defense man point on the shot clock too almost a shot clock violation they did a great job there pushing the tempo jacksona Shephard off offensive Rebound in the bucket that’s what I’m talking about that’s what I’m talking about there we go way to start off the game on the rebounding offensive rebounding sign that’s what he does he gets his position early and season ending left shin injury last year so really trying to work his way back Whitehead someone that the Nets fully believe is going to be a part major part of their rotation after they dismantled the roster this past summer well if you think about it I mean Johnny Fury handling the ball for the first time Jackson into the paint trying to go between two Defenders that’s not it t grabs it though good pass outside he lost his balance he was able to dish it out Fury three ball no good by Jack Quint misses on a three mention she rebound a good spot on the team I guess he was a guy for us last year and I was just not aware it says he played three games last year for us yes I mean I guess I didn’t watch those games or maybe it was it was probably when we were up by like 40 points or something and I just didn’t really pay attention not extremely long but got the frame we’ll see if he can take a step forward in his career this year she weighs 696 24 years old there’s Walker he’s on the regular roster so is sheer who whips ity for first round mury no pardon me the second round pick furphy was projected to be a first round pick and surprised many when he slipped to the Pacers yeah I mean you can’t be mad at that B that was they just slid to us I mean you was perfect I mean we literally used our second round pick to get a first round play you got dunks it yes sir good pass on way guys because a lot of a lot of people during the regular season Nets and also head coach Rick carile talked about the Pacers and their defensive effort and the defensive end you said earlier they finished 24 out of 30 defensive end but in the playoffs they defended and it in shefford we got another foul in 73 now EAS to teach a team defense than it is to teach a team offense and the Pacers quite that simple um okay but to be honest you didn’t give me everything had to be earned you know we traded we did some rer things play all man a little he deserved way more minutes so to be fair we did have a lot of big man and Jaylen Smith leaving that’ll open up some room for Jer Walker I’m assuming Walker will take over Smith’s Minutes special things offensively you know he played a point guard for a year at IMG Academy um he’s got great vision he’s got great feel he shoots it he passes it um one minute to go by the way you know a lot of a lot of the young players feel it’s going to be a skill thing when really it’s got to start off as a hard play thing and a physicality thing and so he’s made some of those adjustments and you know from what I’ve seen you know the end of the the Sacramento Memphis game in the first quarter or so of of this game I mean this is a physical hardplay summer league he’s getting exactly what he needs here tyres Martin just got the bucket for Brooklyn it’s now a fourpoint lead for Indiana and they have the basketball that dude’s just staring at the camera walking behind loud and clear about the need for the Pacers the need for the Pacers to get better on the defensive end and it looked like Pacers go farther in the playoffs next season at the we were in the Conference finals last year only in offive get I don’t see us getting further than that this year I see us getting back there now obviously in my opinion it could be a rematch between us and the Celtics and I think that’s exactly what’s going to happen like these NBA fans they don’t realize that that we’re actually you know here where they still don’t believe that we are a competitive team and that we’re someone that could make it deep into the playoffs so I wouldn’t see
