Knicks TARGETING Gary Trent Jr In Free Agency… | Knicks News

over the past few weeks the Knicks have been looking to make a major trade happen to upgrade the center position however that’s not the only position they’re looking to add some depth in they’re also looking at the free agent Market to upgrade their guard depth and according to multiple reports the Knicks are actually targeting Gary Trent Jr we’re going to break down these latest reports and so and now let’s get started the Knicks are targeting veteran guard Gary Trent JR this report took me back a little bit it caught me by surprise because I thought I knew all the free agents that were out there and the players that the were targeting however even though for the last few days they have been looking to try to trade for a center to increase their depth at the center position they are also looking at guards on the free agent market and when you look at the free agent Market it is a little bit dried up especially with centers however if you’re looking at guards and you need depth in that position there are a lot of quality players that are still available and If you’re looking at those players Gary Trent Jr Goes past the entire list he checks all the boxes especially defensively he’s a great shooter as well too I think he would thrive on the Knicks and underhead coach Tom thibo he would definitely help our bench and give us more depth there and I think that’s exactly why the Knicks are doing this and trying to Target him and you might be asking yourself how is he a free agent wasn’t he part of the Toronto Raptors he is and he was however Toronto offered him a contract offer that he didn’t like and Accord according to multiple NBA insiders what he could be planning to do is take a one-year contract with another team maybe a contending team get his value all the way up and then at some point in time try free agency in the future and it seems that’s exactly what Gary Trent Jr wants to do let’s go ahead and break down these latest reports here according to NBA Insider Jake wein batch he States the following there’s growing belief that free agent Gary Trent Jr would consider a below Market one-year deal to re ra his value this season the Nuggets bucks Sixers and the Knicks are teams worth monitoring for the two-way guard as this Camp mulls over appealing options according to bucket access on the appx they report Gary Trent Jr is expected to pick between the Philadelphia 76ers and the New York Knicks Trent Jr and his agents at clutch Sports are looking for a one-year deal the goal for Gary Trent Jr is very clear his Camp himself they know his value right now is not as high as it should be so because of that they don’t mind taking a lower contract as long it’s a one-year deal and that way he can increase his value and then potentially test out free agency at that point in time get the contract that he wants and go to a different team that he can call home for a very long time but at this point in time he’s not getting the money that he wants not getting the contract that he wants so the only thing that he can do that he thinks is the best move is to look around the NBA look at the contenders in the NBA look at the contenders in the East the Knicks they’re a contender the Philadelphia 76ers as much as I hate those guys I got to call it what it is they’re also contenders as well so because of that it’s not shocking to hear that Gary Trent is considering the Knicks or the Sixers to join but for me here’s the thing if he’s considering his options and he wants to increase his value the only way to do that is with playing time you need to see the court look at the Nicks roster right now look at their bench right now if you include the potential rookies that might see some playing time next season we’re talking about guys like Tyler kich we’re talking about guys like Pome dier if they see any time next year it’s going to hurt the Knicks in terms of the players that they can put on the the floor and that includes Gary Trenton Jr now he’s a great player he would Thrive for this Knicks team I believe at one point in time in his career he was a league leader in steals so best believe when I say if he’s available and the Knicks can sign him for a very cheap deal they’re going to do that because his skill set helps the Knicks especially if you can think about him coming off the bench and that’s something we have to put in perspective however if you’re looking at the Philadelphia 76ers and you’re free agent you’re probably thinking to yourself if I go to Philly I have a better chance of playing there and increasing my value because with the Knicks they likely already have a set ninan rotation maybe even a 10-man rotation I’m not going to be able to crack that I’m gonna have to play extremely aggressive and hard and fight for everything I need to get some minutes Under head coach Tom thibo and if you’re a free agent and you know that that might dissuade you from choosing the Knicks and it might make you choose the Philadelphia 76ers I’m not sure what Gary Trenton’s Camp is going to do yet but if I’m a free agent and I’m looking at the market I am looking at playing time because playing time is going to increase my value down the road I don’t know if he’s going to get that for the Knicks now I understand the fit and I understand if the Knicks had him off the bench it would be a major upgrade for them but playing time if he’s going to get the necessary minutes is his value going to go up and down these are things you’re going to to have to think about I’m not sure what his decision is going to be but it’s clear he’s looking to move on from the Toronto Raptors he wants to go to another team a contending team potentially win a championship increase his value and then test out free agency down the road but what’s more important here is the Nicks interest in veteran guards because they have enough guards on the bench right now they have Dante de vinchenzo they have Duce McBride to an extent they have Tyler kich if they have this many guards already it begs the question why is Leon Rose in this Nicks front office going out and looking for veteran guards on the market why are they targeting Gary Trent Jr it’s likely for a number of reasons but for me it’s one main reason anything can happen if an injury happens if somebody goes down with an illness for a couple of games it could hurt the Nicks their record and what they’re trying to build this season if you get players like Gary Trent Jr that’s Insurance because if somebody goes down if somebody can’t play whatever the reason is you can put in Gary Trent Jr right away he knows how to play starter minutes he knows how to play Off the Bench so he’s used to everything and that’s why you target a player like that or potentially a veteran guard for the last few weeks we have been told that the Knicks are looking to make another major trade to upgrade the center position either getting a starting center or a backup center that that tells you that they don’t have confidence in who they have at that position if they’re also looking at veteran guards that should already tell you they have concerns at that position not for the players that they have there but they remember what happened last year they had a depth issue because they were dealing with so many injuries they do not want to have to deal with that again so the fact that they’re looking at other guards veteran guards that makes a lot of sense you also have to ask yourself if the Knicks are looking at these players do they have what it takes to afford them for a one-year deal for a one-year contract the Knicks can absolutely sign and have Gary Trent junor on this team I want to make that clear they have enough money to do so they can even sign press aoua and still use their mid-level acception they have all of that money available to them they were able to do that by executing the Mel Bridges trade and being able to stay under those aprons now they have a lot of room to operate and a lot of money to use who they’re going to Target in free agency who they’re going to add to this team that all remains a mystery but if you’re asking me as a betting man I think the Knicks are absolutely signing pre toua and he’s going to be part of this team as the backup center in terms of guards that the Knicks could Target that’s the question mark for me I have no idea who they could potentially Target and add to this team in terms of guards clearly they have interest in Gary Trent Jr but I don’t know if that’s the only guard they have interest in if they’re interested in other guards or other players they want to add to this team the only person that knows this is Leon Rose and this Nicks front office and I think we just have to wait a few more days before we see exactly what the Knicks decide to do but I can’t wait to see what Leon Rose and this Nicks front office has in store for us each and every step of the way they have helped this Nicks team and they have improved this roster and I can only anticipate the same is going to hold true as we move forward I know we are headed to the postseason next year we are headed to the Eastern Conference Finals next year but the additions that we make right now to this roster the role players that we add to this team are going to make the difference on whether we stay in Eastern Conference Finals team or we go all the way to the NBA finals Leon Rose knows this and that’s why he’s targeting veteran guards because those guards help tip the balance in the Knicks favor but what
