San Antonio Spurs Starting Lineup 2024 2025 & Depth Chart

very interesting to see how pop handles the rotation in the upcoming season for our San Antonio Spurs I thought you know what people keep asking about it let’s talk about it [Music] today what is up San Antonio Spurs fans welcome to TSR Sports hope you’re having a great weekend and I was doing some thinking this morning I was like you know I’m seeing different iterations of the Spurs starting lineup online why don’t I share what I’m seeing and then of course we’re going to get to TSR starting lineup and then of course you guys are going to I’m sure drop comments down below what you think this starting lineup should be what you think the B rotation should be let’s get into it first let’s pull up the ESPN depth chart which I pretty much agree with this I do think a starting lineup is going to be Chris Paul Devon Mel Harrison Barnes Jeremy Sohan and Victor wama with the primary bench players being Trey Jones Stefon Castle Kellin Johnson and Zack Collins then after that we’ll see with Malachi brandom Julian champany and Blake wesling and there are some players that are left off in here which is why I wanted to make my own depth chart but the main reason I’m also doing this video is I saw a depth chart by the athletic that made me going huh and just happens to be this thumbnail that we’re looking at right here this is what the Athletics thinks our starting lineup is going to be next season CP3 Stefan Castle starting at shooting guard so kind of a Derek white rooll Devon Vel Harrison Barnes and Victor web Yama and many of you on the channel have suggested a lineup similar to this except maybe with soan starting and Barnes coming off the bench I have a problem with this depth chart immediately when I see Julian champeny listed as a shooting guard I’m like what Julian champeny a shooting guard he is not so that seems to be a big giant error so let’s disregard that but having soan come off the bench really just is why I wanted to talk about this is he the odd man out because of his non- shooting I don’t think so not yet definitely not yet he’s a ninth overall pick a few years ago the Spurs are not giving up on him yet we’ll talk about that in a moment this is the TSR depth chart the starting lineup same as ESPN I have it as CP3 Dev Mel Harrison Barnes Jeremy SE and Victor 1bm I think that’s the way the Spurs are going to roll and with this starting lineup this gives up some shooting around wemy Grant granted we don’t have a lights out 45% 3point shooter in this lineup we have a lot of good incapable three-point Shooters starting with Chris Paul 37% from last year Harrison Barnes 39% Devon Mel 37% the odd man of course is soan he was a good three-point shooter for a good portion of last season a lot of people forget from October to January and a random numbers on basketball reference he shot 37% from three which puts him in line with everybody else that’s fine that’s good enough right 37% solid above the NBA average what is what 35% the problem is for whatever reason in February and March his three-point shooting fell off a cliff and he shot 22 2% from three which is abysmal and those are the months that we saw teams daring Jeremy to shoot literally playing off of him six feet or more go ahead and he took the shot most of the time he missed it so if jery can become that 37% to guy for a whole season that’s going to give us some pretty darn good floors spacing if wemy can also up his three-point game I don’t remember what his percentage was last year but it was it was not great was it about 33% granted he’s not floor spacing for himself but if we can have some good floors facing that’s going to really help unlock Lob City 2.0 with the primary targets being wemy and Jeremy soan defensively this lineup yes weny arguably the best I think he’s the best defender in the league some will say Rudy go disagree does not get into that we already talked about in the channel so’s a good Defender Vel is Hit or Miss Barnes not a good Defender at this point in his career in CP3 I don’t know if he’s a good defender or not didn’t watch him enough last year to I know was a great defender in all NBA at one point in his career and those skills are probably still there so at his age he’s probably still a solid if undersized defender in today’s NBA so I think defensively we’re going to kind of be where we were last year where we’re going to give up some points but also there’s going to be a lot of shots rejected in the paint as far as our bench we’re going to have Trey Jones running the second unit which I think is going to make the unit just run so much smoother and I can see Stephan Castle Stefan Castle being a secondary playm maker Kellin coming off the bench too would probably the primary scorner champeny start not starting anymore playing the power forward role Off the Bench who was a solid Defender last year people forget limited action he was a solid Defender and then Zack Collins are backup center we have some three-point shooting here champen can shoot kin’s Hit or Miss but he does have times where he can be hot and hit the three Zack while we had one of his Worst Years From Beyond The Arc last year can be a 35 to 36 three-point shooter Castle remains to seing Jones as a good three-o shooter last year I know it’s not about three-point shooting but I’m just putting it out there because it brought gets brought up a lot and offensively this lineup has some strengths and issues the biggest issues of course immediately are Kellman and Zach right hopefully Julian and Stefan can make up for their lack of defense and Trey certainly puts the effort and he’s undersized as a point guard and then it brings us to the last line there Mamu and Bassie as of this video have not been resigned by the Spurs but all signs point they will be so I put them on the dep chart and from left to right from the one to five Blake wesling Malachi brandom City coko Mel fley and Charles Bassie this this is tough because we were trying to develop wesling brandom last year and they showed glimpses brand I think had three or four games in a row where he scored 20 points then he went right back to his old zeros and twos something’s got to be seen in the preseason or an injury something’s going to have to happen for those guys to crack rotation I think this is going to be the last year of the Wesley and brandom experiment if you will I don’t know if they’re under contract for next year might be a team option you can only develop players for so long Germany’s going to get that you know get the Asters of how long you can develop players because he was a lottery pick so you’re going to spend a little more time with a lottery pick than you would a late first round pick and definitely more time than a second round pick I do think this year is kind of that Mak or break here for SE as well if he’s going to remain a starter if he’s abysmal offensively and just average defense we’re going to have to yank him out of the starting lineup and maybe we do go small with Paul Bell Castle Barnes and Wy who who deck knows but I am truly truly interested on what the Spurs are going to do with the rotations this year we know for darn sure web’s going to get the most minutes Castle even if he’s coming off the bench is going to get I would think at least 25 minutes a game right now the Spurs primary goal I think in the season and they are trying to win some games we didn’t bring in CP3 and Harrison Barnes and just to win 22 games again but I you know wemy the primary focus Castle development is right there and so I think’s right there too th this is the big year for this is the big big year for soan what happens he does he play just like he did last year and the Spurs are like well you know what we’re not seeing Improvement maybe he comes off the bench next year maybe he gets moded to the bench this year I don’t know I’m rooting for him I am rooting for him there’s also the question marked with Kellman can he adjust to the role as a six-man and maybe start playing some defense Off the Bench since he’s playing less minutes and be the spart plug off the bench that we want him to be is he working with Manu Jobing in the offseason to to acclimate himself to that role and what’s needed don’t know lot of questions for our Spurs our Spurs going into the season I’m excited I love talking Spurs with you guys if you by if you haven’t subscribed to the channel would love to have you join our community I love hearing your comments let me know is this your starting lineup here are you like you know what I want cast on the starting lineup is Harrison Barnes top putting him off the bench so we have some three-point shooting and putting soan in the starting lineup very care see with the Spurs who very curious what you think appreciate youall being here hit the thumbs up that helps with your channel subscribe to become Again part of this awesome Spurs Community I thank you and as always oh by the way be live tonight for the Hawks this first play the Hawks I think at 800m some introduction to Zachary R race on an NBA court so I’m extremely excited for that hope he plays Hope 1. We are definitely going have lots of depth , if we keep our current roster last years starters will be coming off the bench and we will be a force to be reckoned with

  2. Spurs fans who is your starting line up for next season? Who's primary off the becnh? Thanks for watching and GO SPURS GO!

  3. Gonna be cp3 ( best pg on the roster), Devin , Barnes, Sochan, and Wemby. Castle seems to be best fit for 6th man since I think cp3 might be the one they watch his minutes per game.

  4. Imo this lineup is small , we will take out the advantage on our 5 spot ,if we have a PF a bobby portis like which we have before (cough MAMU)we will not be terrorize down low ,and it takes off the pressure also to wemby if he have another big besides wemby ,even in offense when wemby post up ,he will be double alot , if we have a big pf wemby can drop off pass or use the big screen coming from a big pf , harrison will be push off alot, down low

  5. Pop mentioned Castle playing the 3 yesterday during the summer league interview. So he’ll be starting there with Barnes backing him up and Sochan at the 4, Wemby at the 5 and Vassell and Paul the starting guards. Then, when Paul leaves, Castle will move to the 1. If it’s during the season Barnes will move into the starting lineup at the 3. If that’s not until after the season then whoever we draft will be the starting 3 next year.

  6. I think there will be a trade or 2 which will adjust our bench. Keldon might be gone, as we all know, but one of the guards might go. And depends on what we bring back. I think this exercise will be more meaningful once we get close to training camp.

  7. Need an elite 3 and d player and a big center who can handle Jokic and embiid allowing wemby to roam free offensively and defensively and not burn his energy all on defense

  8. The rotations will be “all over the place” for the first quarter of the season. Pop often uses the first quarter of the season as an extended preseason.

  9. Why not trying to start the season with Castle as starting PG ? Last year Sochan was tested for almost 3 months… As the team is definitely not designed yet to be a playoff team (difficult to even consider a playin… as almost all west conference teams have reinforced their roster), it should be possible to give Castle several months to show what he can do. Chris Paul can be the first rotation PG and Tre Jones the second one.
Vassel would stay SG, Barnes would take the place of Julian.C and Wemby as Center.
Keldon can replace Barnes (with Julian.C as third option) and Collins is unfortunately the Wemby's backup (the Spurs' defense will still be horrible when Wemby on the bench).
You can then give some minutes to Branham as substitute SG (last chances for him to show some improvements before to be traded or cut next year).
Sochan is the only PF of the team. With the last places of the roster, the Spurs need to find a second and third options for it. Ingram can be the third one but a second one should be found (the remaining free agency is very weak in PFs. Mamu is definitely the best option, except if a trade brings a much better player here in the next weeks).

In December, you can decide if Castle is a PG or not and choose if you keep him as starting PG or place him as backup of Vassels. Chris Paul can take the starting place in case.
If so, you can decide to give up or not on Branham if Castle moves to SG.

I don't see any chances for Sissoko and Wesley as too many lacks to stay NBA's players. Wesley is not a PG and Spurs has already lot of better options as SG. Sissoko cannot shoot at 3 (multiple airballs during the summer league) and in the modern NBA, the SF should be closed to 40% at 3. Next year he will come back to France…

  10. Castle at the 2 wouldnt be a good fit for someone who cant shoot. I say he goes to the bench and next year that cp3 leaves castle can be our starting 1. Although devin at the 3 would fix the julian problem. Although if castle goes to the bench as a point guard then what would tre jones play? I feel like the spurs will make a trade to make everything fit right

  11. I think castle is on the bench to start season share time at 1-3 and cidy will crack the rotation before Ingram.

  12. Start CP3, Vassell, Barnes, Mamu, and Wemby. Second string is Castle, Branham, Sochan, Keldon, and Collins. Tre Jones is used as a break for CP3, at most 15 minutes a game. This makes a very competitive 2nd string to take pressure off Wemby

  13. I hope that CP/Tre and Castle learn to play off each other like Tony and Patty were able to. I miss watching that face-paced game that would catch the other team off guard.

  14. CP3 + Vassell + Cody Williams or D.Knecht + Sochan + Wemby
Oh yeah I forgot… They wasted their #8 pick…. 🤮(Because of that Julian Champagnie stay the best SF on the roster)
ATM S.Castle is not efficient with to much turnover (8/21 with 2/6 at 3P + 5 turnover on his last game) I'd prefer him from the bench.
H.Barnes scoring from the bench with subpar D on the other side (like C.Osman did last season exactly).
    H.Ingram & S.Cissoko -> GLeague

I just hope those who are liability on D ( M.Branham and KJ ) will have less minutes. It's pure math. Less minute with garbage D => more W.

  15. TSR: About Sochan you're wrong, nearly every of his shot were wide open.
League average on 3P wide open is ~38.5%
Shooting 37% on wide open 3P is BAD. but of course shooting less than 31% for the season (on 80% wide open 3P) is way worst (complete garbage)

  16. Opening night i see CP3, Devin, Barnes, Sochan, and Wemby midseason i see the lineup CP3, Devin, Castle, Sochan, and Wemby

  17. I'm happy to say Castle has been impressive in the summer league, I might need to take back what I said about selecting him 4th, I'm excited to see this season, Go Spurs Go!!

  18. Is that chart on the ESPN website. Always garbage depth charts. Even baseball. For someone still learning to shoot, Castle is 2nd on the SG depth chart. Malaki is still the better shooter than Castle. Devin 2nd on SF. It's Julian and Keldon at SF. Keldon is our undersized PF to Sochan. The NBA is positionless now. Wemby can bring the ball up with no problem. Depth Charts mean nothing. Line ups can be big or even small ball at times.
