DaRon Holmes Tears Achilles & A Jalen Picket Precipice

donon Holmes suffers heartbreak and the Nuggets catch a bad break as Holmes suffers a torn Achilles at Summer League we’ll talk about the impacts on the roster on Holmes’s career plus we’ll get into the other nuggets at summerl Julian strawther how did he look and yeah we’re gonna have to have the jayen picket conversation oh hey and the nuggets have their cup for the NBA cup we’ll talk about all that more on a Saturday locked on nuggets you are locked on nuggets your daily Denver Nuggets podcast part of the locked on podcast Network your team every day welcome to locked on nuggets your daily de nuggets podcast part of the locked on podcast Network your team every day thanks for joining us and making us part of your day being with us Monday through Friday being an every day or we are catching you here on a Saturday as we tend to do when we’re in the offseason and so that’s how that goes uh thanks for checking in with us on here on a Saturday night appreciate you guys doing it uh I want to get to a show on Friday but I want to kind of let the dust settle a little bit from Holmes’s injury and we’ll talk about that today we’ll talk about the impact on the roster as well we’ll talk about Julian strawther um and how he looked in summer league we’ll talk about Jaylen picket as well as some of the other guys and we’ll get into the nuggets and where they’re going to fall in the NBA Cup group because that was announced as well on today’s show want let you know that Today’s Show is brought to you by FanDuel make every moment more as the playoffs are now gone the Sports Stop sportsing like we want them to but this summer FanDuel is hooking up all customers with a boost or a bonus daily that’s right there’s something for everyone every day all summer long visit fanduel.com to get started my name is Matt Moore I’m senior NBA writer for the Action Network so first off uh if you haven’t heard the news if you if you if missed it because there’s been other things going on in the news uh donon Holmes in summer league suffered a torn Achilles and is now going to miss the entirety of the 2020 425 season that will do it for holmes’ rookie season um as soon as it happened I was concerned he went up for a rebound and landed on one foot and pushed back against it and you could not see it but it I immediately it was a non- contct and he didn’t W like the ankle didn’t wobble it didn’t turn right the neither if he just like Turned I been like oh he’s probably okay I was concerned pretty immediately just based off the fact that it was like oh he landed was like oh something’s not right here and then that only increased when there were so many trainers around him and then final Michael Malone came over and Calvin booth and then his family according to reports and so the news is now out that Holmes will miss the entirety of the 25 season due to a torn KES just what a crappy break for the kid you know the Nuggets move up to get him they are so encouraged um really in on him they believe in him it’s a Calvin Booth special They identified a guy they went and got their guy they gave up future Assets in order to make sure they got their guy and now he’s out for the entire season now um there’s good news and bad news the good news is is like look lots of players start off their careers with these types of injuries come back the next season and are good to go from the very start so Chad homegrid missed his entire rookie season was phenomenal last year and was second overall in rookie of the year now Holmes was drafted much later but still like it’s totally fine for you to miss your rookie season Blake Griffin another player that um had an an absolutely incredible career missed the entirety of of his rookie season and then um there’s been others like Julius Randall right there’s other players that have come in and missed their entire rookie seasons and then gone on have really great careers the Achilles is still one of these that is such a problem and it sucks that that’s what he suffered if it was a torn ACL honestly it’s no big deal it used to be that there were two injuries that could really derail your NBA career and the first was if you weren’t a big man you didn’t have feet problems the first was an ACL because they used to have micr fractor surgery and that would pretty much derail everything depending on the severity of the tear that’s changed and now ACL tears are are something you can really get over but Achilles are still something that very much takes away from players there’s been research done over the last couple of years and my data on this is a little outdated but basically players it takes longer for them to come back to where they were before the injury after an Achilles and they’re never really at the level they were before now with Holmes being so young that changes the equation here a little bit but it’s still just like really regrettable and um honestly just it sucks that this happened it sucks that happened in summer league of all things it sucks that you know he for him and how excited he was and how much the organization was excited about him like it was a really good opportunity and it came after you know he was kind of quiet in the first half I thought he had a really good third quarter and everything was kind of starting to turn his way and then this happens um and it’s just my all of us like swiper and Adam and me and the dmvr guys and Ryan like everyone Katie wiie like everyone’s just like man this sucks for the kid like that’s just such a bummer it it’s really a bummer that the kid is going to have to go through this so hopefully Holmes is going to be able to get through this that he’ll bounce back he’ll be able to actually have a rookie year next season come back in with like a full year after doing you know strength and conditioning training with the with the Nuggets staff and be in a good place to contribute but for him personally like there’s no upside here it just sucks uh for the team which we’ll talk about you know it’s not good uh Holmes was drafted to be part of the front Court rotation like that was part of the equation here is like okay blacko is coming off a major injury on a you know coming off of a major injury on a minimum contract Zeke is Zeke and everyone knows where the Zeke situation is they signed sarich to be the backup five so that DeAndre Jordan H doesn’t have to play and honestly Holmes looked like he was going to be a really good option at five like maybe you could play sarich and Holmes together and that combo would have wor really worked out well and now you lose that so if sarich has to miss time has to miss time when he’s up there in age and he he you know has the same since his ACL injury now all of a sudden guess what we’re the nuggets are right back to DeAndre Jordan as like the backup five like that’s where they’re back to again you know it’s Aaron Gordon Michael Porter Jr sarich and Zeke with blacko that’s just kind of where we’re at it’s unfortunate and there’s really no kind of way around it um and when you bank on young guys the one thing you kind of can expect from them you don’t know they’re going to be good but you expect them to be available and this kind of type of injury is just so unexpected unforeseen and really rare for a player of his age it’s just really kind of awful and so now um this puts more pressure on you know chanar I think to fill in and be able to to fill in a little bit um more to chonch I’m sorry Chon to be able to fill in and do a little bit more I think it puts at least the option back on of like hey maybe Zeke can give us something or at least improve his trade value but this is bad not just for holes but it’s and bad for the the long-term development plan of getting the young guys it it creates this kind of emergency situation the Nuggets now have to deal with where they’re not in an emergency situation now right losing homes is not like oh my gosh but what it does mean is like look if Aaron Gordon goes down who’s your starting for you slide Michael Porter Jr over you start pton Watson okay who’s your backup three then who who are you going to at the three at at three in that spot strawther Hunter T strawther can’t play small forward Hunter Tyson okay so you don’t do that all right well let’s you know let’s maybe we’ll play vco at the four okay cool SAR at the backup five um vco goes a four that’s all good right now how again how are you kind of filling in your your backup three position there’s just like you lose a player like this when your roster is pretty tight and even if Holmes wasn’t expected to contribute in the playoffs which I don’t think you should assumed that he would be it’s still unfortunate um it’s just not a good situation and there’s not really an answer here like there’s comments in the and there’s people in the comments talking about people that are just not GNA you can’t get them like they are not getable with where the nuggets are at that’s not the options are limited and centers are very hard to find right now in the NBA they’re that’s one of the reasons I think that so many teams have kind of signed guys to the deals that they have is not only do they value them and want to have them but they also know that other teams will need them and bigs are becoming more important again so it’s unfortunate it’s really regrettable it sucks for it’s obviously sucks the most for Don it sucks for the Nuggets it sucks for everybody it’s a real bummer of a way to start the new kind of nuggets season with that kind of injury uh Adam May commented this that they lost blacko last year and they lose Holmes this year it’s just it’s really tough when you lose a guy in the off season for the whole year the Nuggets did play in their summer league game I’ve got thoughts on Julian strawther Hunter Tyson Trey Alexander and yeah we’re gonna have to talk about Jaylen picket we’ll do that all that coming up next here on lock on nuggets well let you know that today’s episode is brought to you by FanDuel sports book this summer you got all sorts of options for betting you can get into major league baseball betting partner of Major League Baseball we’ll be right back on locked on nuggets back here on lock on nuggets thanks for joining us appreciate you guys being with us here on a Saturday we will be with you on um well I don’t know if we’ll do world’s finest on Sunday Adams and Vegas for summer league so I don’t know if Adams gonna be available so it might just be me tomorrow which will be fine I’ll get you caught up on the speed on everything that uh is going on after the second nugget Summer League game obviously without drawn H speaking of uh let’s talk about the rest of the nuggets in that summer league game so there’s kind of mixed reviews on Julian strawther and I will say this if you were looking for him to immediately come out and play pureo here that wasn’t gonna happen but I did like how stur played as a primary initiator he got downhill with ease and really attack the cup and that finishing is a big step for him because if he could become a three-level scorer that’s going to help a lot with getting him into the rotation like defensively he’s never going to be locked down but if he can just be a three-level scorer and then the rest of the defense can kind of cover for him when he’s out there that makes it a lot easier Michael Malone did say during the broadcast he was like well look the two guards not settled it’s gonna be an open competition I haven’t decided anything yet and kind of talk about what strawther can bring I don’t honestly hate that you guys know I’m very not I am I have reservations that’s the best way to say it I’m not out I just have reservations about Christian as a starting two guard I think Christian probably wins it in Camp I don’t see any situation in which that doesn’t happen but but look I do do I think that Julian strawther might be a pretty good option there for how he brings some offensive pop yeah because strawther to me looked yesterday like an NBA player that understood how to get to his shots was able to find his rhythm third quarter was really good from him thought that he really brought a lot to the table and honestly I was pretty impressed with Julian I think Julian is on track for where you want to see him in summer league play coming into a second season like he looked like an NBA Pro and that to me was like pretty premium so uh I think there’s actually a lot of upside there yes You’ like to see him make more reads but honestly with where the Nuggets roster is at for summer league I think it’s kind of hard they don’t have a ton of talent Clippers played really well in that game um didn’t have a lot of opportunities but maybe that’s like something for him to grow but part of this too is I kind of mentioned this with the Desmond Bane thing it’s less about wanting Julian stur to rack up seven assists and see the floor great it’s more to give him those opportunities of what that looks like to give him those opportunities with hey show us what you can do with the ball work on how you can develop and score and leverage the defense with the ball and if they adapt then that will make easy opportunities for the other guys or we can work on those kind of things next level but the first step is just him being able to create on Ball and I thought I did that really well uh Trey Alexander uh made a lot of shots like that’s what he’s there to do is like he’s there to put up shots now uh not I like Adam I am not thrilled with the overall shot selection but as a guy that can actually make shots look if the nuggets are low on shooters you’re gonna need some of those guys to just kind of do that and there are guys in the league that just that’s their job is just to go out there and put up some threes and I while I don’t have a lot of confidence in Trey Alexander actually wanting up making an end of the rotation maybe it’s a good idea to keep a guy that can actually shoot like that and is willing to shoot like that especially that doesn’t overthink things and doesn’t move the ball too much maybe there’s actually some value and having a guy like that around so I thought Trey Alexander played pretty well uh BJ Hall did not have any rebounds and there was a lot of like criticism about that I didn’t mind that so much I love the energy that he brought thought he had some had pretty good pass as well in the third quarter um actually thought that he was not bad I thought that that he was actually a lot better I’m not I just am not super concerned about rebounding like you can there are ways to address that with your rotations and lineups and how you play um it’s not that I don’t care about great rebounders I do but also there’s other things to kind of worry about first before we get into being worried about rebounding Hunter Tyson was bad defensively uh he got lost on the corner a lot Ryan Blackburn was pointing that out on Twitter um and he’s right like it was stting out really badly that he was just like very much getting torched on Corner side rotations um try I still like the way the hunter plays with a a level of aggressiveness and like a little bit of Fu I think that that’s actually pretty good like he’s a gamer man like he wants to compete he just got lost defensively I actually think he can have a better game maybe versus the Raptors might be a little bit better of a better match up we’ll see how he does on Sunday night and then there’s jayen picket um okay so I think it’s easy to overreact right the the expectations are pretty high on picket to prove that he belongs given that he is currently the backup point guard as Russell Westbrook is still not signed and there’s a lot of pressure because he was given a a multi-year contract by the front office like they gave a second round pick one of the new multi-year guaranteed deals I get that totally understand and uh it was a disaster I’ll just say that the problem in the first game was that pick didn’t show anything there wasn’t anything I can point to he didn’t make shots he didn’t control the game he didn’t set the offense he didn’t handle ball pressure he just turned his back um he didn’t set the tone with pace he did he wasn’t you know improved better than we thought defensively uh he didn’t make crafty moves to get to the basket there wasn’t anything that like pick it was just there and that’s really concerning in summer league you want your guys that have NBA not experience the guys that have been in your system for a year that have practiced against NBA players consistently you want them to look like they belong like oh yeah that’s an NBA player and Jaylen picket did not in game one now it’s game one okay if he comes out in game two that’s the thing about summer league it’s not just one game right you’ve got like four or five games he comes out in game two versus the Raptors and maybe looks a lot better and is able to actually like set the offense and do the stuff that Adam really loves about his game and maybe this looks very much different so like I’m not going to sit here and say that like it’s time to bail on jayen picket like this is clearly a disaster like a lot of nuggets fans are really honestly riding him off because of the amount of stress that I understand that the front the point guard situation kind of um negotiates there like I understand that um and look I don’t think summer league is a great environment for Picket type of game you want a very set offense with teammates that know how to play together I I will say that it gets difficult when it’s like oh but you need the right circumstances for this guy to be able to play when it’s a second round seconde player who didn’t crack the rotation or get minutes last season and spend his time in the G League like he should be able to exert the his influence on the game at this point even in a messy summer league type environment um I used to make the same argument like this is a very um apples to oranges a tier to to D tier comparison but I did used to make the same kind of comparison about Lonzo ball which was like everybody was like well he’s a secondary playmaker I’m like okay but why is he a star if he can’t have the ball full-time because he’s not a good enough shooter with the ball in his hands can’t finish at the rim and is basically the secondary playmaker now with the bulls it was like this perfect thing where he got his three-point shooting up in New Orleans and then he went to the Bulls for that one year and it was like everything clicked into place it’s like a secondary playmaker jaylen’s game is not necessarily dissimilar to that right where it’s like he might be really good as a secondary playmaker but him and St like stw’s not at a level to command the floor in such a way nor do they have the O other weapons for pick to be able to take advantage of so if if your whole game is built on craftiness you’re probably going to struggle in summer league it’s not a place for very crafty players the problem is just like there is an urgency for him to look like an NBA player and not just like an okay one he needs to look like a good one and he didn’t and that to me I think is is really concerning that if there was something I could point to then I would be like okay but this thing we know that that works and there just really wasn’t anything and the question’s going to continue to be posed which is you know okay he didn’t show anything yeah but he wasn’t given the opportunity yeah but he wasn’t given the opportunity because he didn’t show anything and it’s just like this constant cycle and I’m just going to be very curious to see where the the organization comes out of Summer League in terms of their assessment I don’t think they’ll overreact to Summer League you should never do that but I am G to be curious to see where the organization comes out in terms of what the feeling is about picket going into Camp because it was not a good start but let’s see what happens in game two and we’ll talk about that on Sunday night’s show up next the nuggets have their NBA cup assignment and we’ll talk about their group and their chances of winning the NBA cup next season season we’ll talk about that up next here on lock on nuggets back here on lockdown nugget thanks for joining us appreciate you guys being with us uh here on a Saturday night coming into Sunday hope you guys are able to enjoy the show and we’ll be back with you on Sunday night after the game um jod and Nola says honestly Calvin could not tell gspie is better value than pi get I’m GNA be honest with you uh I’d still I’d I’d still rather have pick it I’d rather go with the unknown here I think Colin was a guy that everybody loved in the locker room I think Colin showed a lot of heart I think Colin has a lot of on ball skills I also just don’t believe that he’s going to be a long-term NBA player because his combination of size and not being an explosive scorer makes it very difficult size is a huge thing in the NBA most of the point guards are big and whenever Gillespie was out there last season it was a real struggle because they were unable to really be able to keep him out of actions to make make it to where he wasn’t getting hunted a little bit even in a regular season format and offensively there would be moments where it was like what a good spark but they weren’t consistent and it didn’t necessarily develop or grow so I would rather take the chance of the unknown of picket than I would with the known of Colin Gillespie and that might seem harsh but that’s just kind of where I’m at in terms of where the roster is at now I think the better option is just like you I would rather go get like I would be desperately trying to get my hands on tus Jones here in a re Reclamation thing like I would be desperate to be like tius let’s figure out something you come here and recoup your value hit the market in a year after a playoff run as a full-time backup point guard at that point like I I don’t I don’t I’m not really interested in Russell Westbrook as much as I love Russ like that’d be great but I don’t think those things are going to happen and so I’m honestly not you know part of that I think is if you’re trying to set the set the table for Michael Malone to play the guys that you think need to play you need to remove the guys that are in that that are obstructionist to that and Colin Gillespie was obstructionist to that so that’s uh part of the conversation there as well uh not that jayen pickets by the way big I’m not trying to make that argument it’s just a different type of game um anyway the Nuggets had their group announc for NBA cup play So It’s The End season tournament and in the fall they will play the round robin throughout the M of month of of November and those probably what are going to be different courts they might not be as loud as they were last year but I think they’ll be actually I like the Nuggets one one that was one of the better ones last year um I think they will have those maybe just not as extreme next season they are in an absolutely brutal group they got what is being referred to as like the group of death uh as far as far as the group stage of the inseason tournament Cup draw um New Orleans Pelicans Golden State Warriors Memphis Grizzlies and the defending Western Conference Champion Dallas Mavericks so pretty tough there now Denver was within range of winning it of winning their group last year what they got crushed by was the Houston games they lost to Houston and that one was a really big uh blow to their chances of taking that group I honestly kind of wonder if this might be a situation where the I I would not be surprised if the Nuggets actually make it out of the group and make it to the knockout stage I don’t think Denver is going to necessarily gun for the for the cup uh let me take that back the nuggets are definitely not gonna gun for the cup they’re not gonna care Nicole yoka just not even gonna be aware of what it is or why or any of this he’s just gonna be like okay fine we’ll go to Vegas but do I think that there’s maybe some value in honing your ability to focus on these specific opponents yes I do because I do think the Nuggets need to be tested and really take these kind of matchups seriously the Nuggets were not quite as good last season versus the top of the Western Conference as they had been they actually did not have a good record versus those top teams in the west and that’s something they need to improve on this upcoming season even with a a roster that’s a little bit worse uh they need to be able to show like it’d be really good to show Dallas like hey congrats on wayn in the west but just so you know we would have beat you get a little bit of a mental Edge there New Orleans you don’t want them getting confidence for a potential match up down the line you don’t I I will say that’s like a huge thing here and if you don’t believe me look at the Pacers versus buck series everyone’s gonna go well yeah but Matt Giannis was out yes he was but I am telling you that even if Giannis had been in that’s a tough match up for the bucks and it proved itself in that inseason tournament they did not match up well with that team last year at all and the n Season Tournament game was honestly really shocking with the way the Pacers kind of ran the Bucks out the building so there’s kind of an opportunity here for the N the Nuggets to be able to go ahead and and say something to these teams to say something to the Grizzlies hey you’re not back yet hey MAV congrats on the west we we’re still in charge here um keep the Pelicans out of it and then with the Warriors obviously it’s you know that’s always going to be kind of Premium games but those games should be really fun they should be really active they should be um a lot I think to think about um as we kind of get forward I do like the Nuggets chances of coming out of their group that one is a pretty tough one though as far as those groups go uh the Thunder will face off against the reigning IST Champion Lakers a colleague of mine of the action netor Joe DEA said uh what if the Lakers win again would it be the start of an IST Dynasty I thought that was very funny um so that is the Nuggets group some final comments kind of here as we wrap up here on a Saturday for you try and let the summer league kind of play out a little bit um if you’re wondering hey what’s the hold up with the Russell Westbrook deal I want to kind of stress this I’ve said it but I want to stress it again this is not under the Nuggets control you don’t want to get Russell Westbrook for assets you don’t want to have to send them something you don’t want to have to send them a good player or even like a potentially good player you want to get Russell Westbrook for nothing because the Clippers want to move him they don’t want him on the roster they don’t think he’s like they’re ready to move on and there’s a good opportunity for them to trade Russell Westbrook somebody else buys him out and then the Nuggets pick him up I do think that there are fewer teams that are willing to do that than there used to be that there are fewer teams that are going to be willing to go ahead and just do that job for the Clippers but that’s kind of the hold off here and I also I am a little bit concerned my only real concern about the situation has to do with the fact that I I know that the Clippers last year did not want PJ Tucker going to the Nuggets that’s one of the reasons they wouldn’t buy him out is they were like you’re gonna go join Denver and we’re not going to see you we don’t want to see you in a playoff game I think there might be a little bit of that with I don’t think the Clippers want to do anything that helps Denver and that’s not like a personal thing that’s not uncommon that’s just smart game management Game Theory why why should you help an opponent that’s clearly ahead of you in the Western Conference if you’re trying to compete for the Western Conference title why are you going to assist a team that really needs to get Russell Westbrook so I’ll be curious to see kind of how this plays out and how the Clippers kind of approach this because I don’t necessarily think the Clippers are under a lot of pressure to do anything I think there was an idea that hey like this is going to happen and the Nuggets will get him but it’s going to have to actually happen the caveat or counter to that is that the same thing kind of was heard about Kyle Lowry with the heat that they were like eventually they’re going to move Kyle Lowry and Kyle L is gonna sign with the Sixers and that was kind of known for a long time and then it was like What if they don’t like what if they keep him and then eventually they did the deal and then Kyle Lowry wound up in Philly like for a while there was like Hey the the magic really want Kyle Lowry and they’re gonna make a big offer for him and it was like no like he was always going to Philly so when you have these things in the league where it’s been like predetermined so to speak then I think that there’s actually a higher POS possibility of it happening Nome Chomsky says honestly PJ Tucker would be great for us I think he’s a little bit long in the tooth I think it’s he’s just a little bit I think he’s just a just two years too late but honestly it’s not a bad idea like I’m I’m open to ideas about this um Premium Waters in here juste suggesting they sign Mark in yeah he’s not a he’s not a free agent um you can’t trade for him because the any Ang is going to want Jamal Murray no he’s gonna start with nicoa yic and then he would say Jamal Murray Aaron Gordon and three firsts for Lori that’s that’s like what it’s going to take it’s not gonna happen you’re not getting Lori Marin in um hurricane says wonderful way to conduct business during a top 15 players Prime okay so I’m gonna push back on this point okay and I’ve had like I have questions about the front office I never was on board with project Dynasty you guys know me I’m always I’m always a guy it’s like you need veterans you need old guys young guys don’t know anything they don’t know how to play they’re not winning players they don’t know how to win that’s why they’re not winning players I don’t care about upside and potential I don’t care I care about what you actually can do give me Jeff Green give me Justin holiday right however I think that there’s been a little bit of a of a too far dorismar about the idea that they are quote wasting yoga’s Prime first off they won a championship which a lot of guys in their Prime cannot say so they’ve unequivocably not wasted his prime second off I don’t think you can look at last season and Adam’s not wrong to to point this out they did win 57 games the whole thing last year when I was barking about them needing to to throttle down and rest was that they were good enough to win the title but they had to make sure that they didn’t leave it up to Chance by risking their energy being at zero which is ultimately what happened and if you want to say like well that’s because Jamal got hurt yeah but that’s the thing is if Jamal gets hurt you need everybody else to have extra pop and they didn’t have it right the nuggets are still good enough to win the title I’ve said this over and over again they are still good enough to win the title you still have the best player in basketball Jamal’s still good Jamal’s not like a Jamal’s not a 10 points per game 35% shooter here Jamal is still a very very very good player he’s just not as good as a contract Michael Porter Jr is still a very good player he’s just not as good as a contract um and I’ll also say this look the bench is for the regular season to give you a better chance in the playoffs the playoffs are about your top seven and the Nuggets top seven is great guys like the Nuggets top seven is still great that’s that starting five even with Christian is still really good throw in SAR shich shie sh for getting that wrong it’s shich and then Russ and or Strather and or whoever okay like you will find somebody by the end of the season who the roster is and what the rotation is by the time that we get to February will not probably be what we expect now that is a difference from last year which is we could have told you the playoff rotation outside of Justin holiday was the exact same thing that we thought at the beginning of the season I think he’ll probably change this year they’ll be a different team by the time that we get there um and I just don’t think that there’s a lot there to go crazy about in terms of like guys five through 10 they need to get better but they don’t absolutely 100% need to get there now and they can’t they’re going to work towards that probably now if um they if this entire thing like falls on its face and the Nuggets just don’t have enough guys and they’re playing the the starters again like 35 minutes then yeah there’s probably going to have to be some hard conversations but it’s too early in this process for there to be the level of criticism and stress again I’m always going to be the guy that’s like when everybody was like Booth is a genius he’s the best they don’t need Tim connley he didn’t do anything I was like well no okay but like a lot of this was prebuilt and now when people are like fire Booth which is ridiculous he brought you the first championship in franchise history alongside Michael Malone Nicole yic same thing like let’s let’s be patient here let’s try and have some big picture perspective and not get caught up just in the fomo because one of the things I’m doing all these analyses on these teams in the offseason I guarantee you how we think these teams look now will not be what they look like later and a lot of this is is just fomo for nuggets fans it’s just they’re watching other teams got better and asking why not us gotta play the games all right that’s gonna do it for lock on nuggets tonight appreciate you guys being with us I’ll be with you tomorrow night after the second nuggets Summer League game we’ll talk about the game vers versus the Raptors get reactions to picket strawther and the rest we’ll talk about all that and more plus whatever news comes up join me tomorrow night on locked on nuggets till then see you later

  1. As a former Lakers fan, I remember Julius Randle breaking his leg in his 1st preseason game. Sadly this kind of stuff happens, just look at Chet. Hopefully Holmes has a long career 🙏

  2. Jalen Pickett has shown exactly nothing in his entire career, and last year was outplayed by Colin Gillespie a 2-way player who had no future with the Nuggets. Giving Pickett a multi-year contract and getting rid of Reggie Jackson was just more insanely stupid Calvin Booth moves. He's so terrible as a GM it's not worth arguing. To think they have a Hall of Famer in Jokic and can't get talented veteran role players around him is just so incompetent.

  3. Jalen Pickett needs a competent veteran guard to play with and learn. Russell ”Mr Turnover” Westbrook isn’t that veteran. He’s not what the team needs. They need someone like Mike Conley for example.

  4. All I know about Jalen is he is afraid to shot. Colin Gillespiewas was not and played really good with Jokic. Jalen waist of time. Booth in motion you all. Maybe we need a new GM? Think you put more value in running fast and jumping high then brains. I will take brains every time.

  5. Jalen Pickett was a mistake, I don't like bashing young player, but I think it's obvious he's not an NBA player, damn, he's not an Euroleague player for sure. Denver needs to move on from him, it's a waste of roster spot.

  6. Man that sux. Was really looking forward watching Holmes play. Hes gonna be out the entire season most likely and probably should. You dont wanna force this injury cost you the entire career if it dont heal properly.

  7. If we’re keeping DJ on the bench for just leadership and Veteran support but not to play, then it’s time to make him a coach.
