we’ve got breaking news from the NBA the New York Knicks and Allstar Jaylen Brunson have agreed to a team-friendly 4-year $565 million extension that’s according to ESPN the deal is an unprecedented one designed to give the team Financial flexibility it’s worth $113 million less than what Brunson was eligible for next year now he could recoup that money with a 4-year $323 million deal in 2028 or or a 5year $418 million contract in 2029 of course we’re bringing in our NBA Insider Bill writer to discuss bill this is a lot of money we’re talking about here in the future but give us your reaction to the current deal that Jaylen Brunson just Inked this is a shockingly selfless move by jayen Brun we know that people want to win there’s different degrees of commitment to that a lot of the star players out there who are handsomely paid get handsomely paid Haley and also do a lot of things in the margins to help their teams win this is you said it this is unprecedented I mean this is $113 million less in guaranteed money he was entitled to so that the Knicks can be in a better position in this really difficult environment with the new CBA and the first and second aprons we talk about to try to build a winner it’s pretty stunning I don’t know what to say other than this is one of the most I want to win over getting paid moves I think we’ve seen in the history of sports it gets kind of Muddy for those who are like a casual basketball fan when you’re talking about the future contract versus what he’s taken now so just kind of break down the decision that Brunson made and what it could look like in the future all right so one of the key points you you just gave us let’s reiterate it because it’s pretty stunning $113 million less in guaranteed money than he was entitled to to put in perspective if he had taken the max amount of money that he could have gotten and that certainly the Knicks would have given him his first year in that deal next year would have been more than 33% of the entire cap for this Nicks team in a new environment we’re going over the cap makes it really hard and a lot of ways in the margins to build a winner or to put in a different way over the first three years of this deal they’re going to save a total of $37 million in cap space around 11 million year one 12 million in change in year two 13 million and change in year three so it allows them to try to keep this core together this really talented group that they’ve assembled they’ve they’ve added Toe with Miguel Bridges and it allows them to be somewhat flexible to add pieces if they need to do that in the years ahead those are the numbers and the reality is it makes the Knicks on paper and I think in reality not just a contender but one of the more flexible contenders out there play on both ends of the floor they’re finally figuring it out on defense too and who’s the leader in the front that’s Caitlyn Clark slicing and dicing everything she’s taking risks but her teammates are showing up big for her and I just love seeing Caitlyn Clark win it’s good for basketball it’s good for sports and we’re all in on Caitlyn Clark yeah it’s been fun just to see her develop her game to your point and she always talks about this being a team first sort of approach to the season uh so that’s been fun a note for that game Diana terasi will not play she is out with a lower leg injury let’s move on and talk about two of the top three teams in the league facing off when the links and the storm tip off late tonight 10:00 Eastern Minnesota’s won all of the regular season meetings in this series they’re on a two game win streak but you can never count out Seattle especially this season so what are you watching for in this game oh man I’m watching for NECA aum’s inside presence records those double doubles but it’s still impressive it’s still a statistic that we keep up with in the W what has impressed you the most about what Angel’s been able to do this season just the fact that she’s a rookie and she’s doing it against the best of the best johncl Jones and Brianna Stewart are two of the best players in the world and Angel Reese is getting a double double against them I don’t care how she gets it the one thing about angel Reese she is the ultimate competitor so you can say what you want about how she gets her double doubles but every single night she’s showing up she’s making an impact and she’s making this Chicago Sky Team much better organization as a whole and I’ve been Wasing her since she was in seventh grade so I’m not going to say this kid but when I say the ultimate competitor that is who Angel Reese is and she’s going to continue to get all of these double Devils to that point how have you seen her develop from that point since you’ve been lucky enough to see her play at such a young age and now in her first professional season what has changed about her game well Haley first let me start off with the one thing that hasn’t changed even when she was in seventh grade she was getting 20 rebounds for me I think it’s just been the way she approaches her game I always felt like she was a great competitor but when she was younger no matter what she could do whatever she wanted now she’s come in with this Pro mindset she’s going to be the best she day in and night out and she’s proving that and to me I’m just super proud of her and her overall development has been just something incredible to watch just as a reminder the record was set by Candice Parker at 12 and Angel now has 15 going for number 16 against the liberty so those are
