Nice Hawks using other sports to compare prospects like the NBA doesn’t have ample comparisons…

Sheppard and Trae would have been a pretty bad fit together…right? Or am I wrong?
Radimov79
I was obsessed with picking Sheppard certainly was the best talent in the draft, the problem is the fit with Trae.

If the Dejounte/Trae experiment hadn’t just failed, maybe they would have grabbed Reed instead. But after just seeing how poorly it works pairing Trae with a relatively short 2 guard, I’m guessing they just couldn’t go down that road again so quickly.

Why on earth would you say something like this about a player you could have taken but didn’t. If he’s great you look like a clown for not taking him and if he sucks you look like a clown for saying it.

I always thought if we took reed that would be a signal we were completely rebuilding

I think they had Sheppard and Risacher on the same tier. Which is pretty defendable.

If Sheppard is Mahomes then Risacher is simply the Tom Brady of basketball its true

We already have Trae, if he reups with the Hawks, then Zac is the right choice. If he leaves, then Sheppard would have been the right pick.
We don’t know if Sheppard will be that good in the NBA. Trae did 17/1/6.8 on 38.3/38.7/87 and was taking 7.8 3pa/gm. Horrible but he’s become one of the best PG’s in the game. Summer League doesn’t translate into a great NBA career.
There are MANY examples of guys who did well in the summer league that didn’t translate into the NBA.
“Why didn’t we take an on ball guard when we have an on ball guard?”
Idk why this is such a big deal. We have Trae. And Patty Mahomes makes sense for him in terms of big play abilities.

The thing to remember is that “Mahomes the prospect” had a lot of question marks. He was not a sure thing by any means. He had an impressive highlight reel, but a lot of people were unconvinced that he would be able to do that in the NFL. There were reasons why he wasn’t drafted until #10, and reasons why he rode the bench for his first season. So if the Hawks see him like that – high risk but with a potential high reward – then it makes sense that they would be uncomfortable taking him number one overall, especially since he doesn’t really fit the current roster. You’re deciding to really roll the dice there.

Imagine if they start drafting based on potential NFL comparisons next. ‘With the 5th pick, the Hawks select a QB from Alabama… just kidding!
