If you only watched Team USA, you would think Haliburton must be a great defender.

I understand that its impossible to play the offense that he does while also playing great defense. But if he can be just average, then I would be happy.

Supposedly he’s working with Jrue on it and making it a focus. He’s young, so he’ll get better on that end. No real ceiling with this dude, & glad we have him.

He can be a top three-point guard in the league for years to come if he just becomes an average defender

Edit: I will be sure to leave my unbiased takes for r/NBA next time. Tyrese Halliburton is the best player in the NBA!!!!!

Defense is a lot more than steals but he’s solid at reading pass lanes at least

He always has been good at getting steals. Even makes some good plays on blocked shots. Off ball defense is not his problem, he’s smart enough to anticipate what the offense is trying to do and disciplined enough to execute a specific gameplan, like vs the bucks they put him on Pat Bev and it was his job to help off on the rollers for the Dame PnR poessions because we had to hedge those screens to stop Dame from getting open threes, and he did that well (which took Beverly off the court entirely sometimes). His problem is and always has been guarding on the ball.

  5. Yeah I heard the commentator (sounded like Hubie but idk) keep raving about his defense during the Australia game and I was like, wait what?

If you’ve been watching the Team USA games Tyrese looks like he’s taking a jump on defense. And it builds well for the pacers. In this next coming year I expect the rest of the team to take a jump up on defense as well. We will need to as teams will be better however I enjoy being slept on this year. Time to prove it wasn’t a fluke.
