  1. I’m looking forward to watching us run the offense through Clingan in the high post. Dude can dime.

  2. NevermoreSEA

Imagine not drafting a defensive beast who may or may not just be a sentient mountain in a jersey.

Love it when clutch defensive plays win games

Clingan monster Jam with our other guys in attendance courtside popping up all hyped was a great moment!

Those dimes and blocks are game changing. Crazy how bad his threes look tho. Kinda wild how he mentions spacing the floor in every interview

  6. Clingan had 4 blocks and I’m willing to die on this hill

Every game, I’m more and more sure that Donovan Clingan really is 7’2”

  8. Clingan is a game changer. He’s like Nurkic but with much better rim protection. Just creates a bunch of space for his teammates because he’s so big.

  9. It was kinda frustrating seeing the wings often just ignoring Clingan rolling to the hoop after the screen.

Clingan is as advertised. Maybe even a little bit better. His defense in the post and mid range is phenomenal already. He moves well and his passing this game was awesome. His offense needs some fine tuning and conditioning will need to be a big focus point. I don’t mind him taking threes either. In fact I’d rather have him shoot it than be afraid to shoot. Love what I’m seeing. So happy to have him.

we need to hire a good shooting coach. do what detroit did and just steal away one of the better ones.

kris murray is too old to improve but rupert is young.

Looks like Clingan is effecting the game heavily just by being out there. Massive

Clingan does play like Hartenstein, I see him being a bigger hartenstein with better rim protection.

This guy looks like a future franchise pillar.

I don’t know if he has the versatility or flash to be an All-Star but in a few years he’ll be one of those guys other fan bases dream up trade scenarios about and the response is “No way the Blazers give up Clingan, especially not for that!”

    My take on the game:

    Clingan

    * Better on the boards against more challenging opposing bigs. Made Bona look small pretty regularly.
    * He deters a lot of shots and his rim protection on initial attempts is incredible, wouldn’t say he’s the best second jump guy or the quickest to react if someone snags an offensive board.
    * Somehow we have a 7’3″ guy who is better at getting easy looks for the guards/forwards than vice versa.
    * I think he’s finding out that shooting in practice is a bit different than getting them up half exhausted in a game. Even his closer looks are often coming up short
    * The throw down on Bona was incredible (especially after getting a little floater blocked not long before) but I liked the block on McCain at the end even more. He’s not quick twitch but he sure covers ground.

    Rupert

    * Kinda reminded me of Kris’ game against the Spurs – early aggression and success but disappeared once they keyed in on him a little more.
    * I like when he drives with a plan (had some nice takes going all the way and pulling up a little short) but when he’s freestyling its a turnover or a nasty flip shot at the rim. Still plenty of work to do.
    * I think the shot is entirely legit – went 1/4 but one miss was in and out and another was soft on the front rim.

    Kris

    * Activity level was much better, unfortunately It didn’t result in much of a positive impact.
    * He always looks mechanical and unnatural to me when he has the ball – the mess he made of a transition oppurtunity was exhibit A. Weird because he moves nicely on defense, just not fluid on the other end.
    * I think the shot is entirely busted. There was a left wing attempt late that just drifted a ton and never looked like going in. The mechanics aren’t consistent and I just don’t see a lot of touch.

    Other notes:

    * When Minaya plays that way you can see the outline of an 8th/9th man energy wing. He’s toast if he doesn’t shoot it well eventually though.
    * McGowens really feels like a Banton copy+paste to me, guess they like that archetype.

Watch the space the guards get when Klingan sets screens for them. It’s massive.
