2024-25 76ers Roster Breakdown: Analyzing Every Sixer On The Roster After 2024 NBA Free Agency

[Music] this is Philadelphia 76ers Now by chat sports I’m Chase senior coming your way on today’s show an in-depth roster breakdown a look at what Nick nurse has at his disposal with the Sixers team with a couple of spots to fill with this roster but pretty much a lot of the Mary players set for the Sixers for the 2024 2025 campaign let’s first take a look at this most likes on a video last week 596 during July 10th show on today’s show can we beat that let’s go hit that thumbs up icon like the video and let’s get that du let’s start off with the Sixers projected starting lineup this is our best guest at what Philadelphia can do right now I know that some people think that they need a better power forward but given the lack of money that they have I think this is going to be the starting five for Nick nurse barring any big changes here and again those big changes might not be able to be made by darl mury In This front office Tyrese Maxi as the primary ball handler distributor he can create for himself and others we saw an uptick in his passing ability last year when he just made Monumental strides and leaps with his overall game Kelly UB at the two that gives you some size at that guard spot of course he can play a little bit of the wing we’ve seen him in the dunker spot Nick nurse likes to put them there from time to time and then you have your wings SL fours and Paul George and Caleb Martin and then the process the big man holding it down in the trenches Joelle embiid who can also stretch his offensive game out to the three-point Arc one of the best defenders in the NBA and some people think that the Sixers are a small team they’re really not that small of a team when you compare them to other squads across the entire NBA Philadelphia going to be led by the one two punch of Tyrese Maxi and Joel embiid they upgrade from Tobias Harris to Paul George with that third star and this is going to be quite the big three for Maxi last year averaged nearly 26 points per game 45% from the floor 37% from three Joel embiid was maybe on his way to winning a second consecutive MVP before he hurt that knee against a Golden State Warriors averaging nearly 35 points per game before he went out 11 rebounds playing excellent on the defensive end he was shooting nearly 39% from distance and almost 53% from the field you add those two stars to this star the big ticket the big fish PG Paul George coming off a great year last year as far as efficiency and games played and production 22 and A2 points per game five rebounds three and a half dimes 4 47% from the deck 41% from three I hope that he can continue to stay healthy as he’s 34 years old and if he can the 76ers going to be a big problem which brings me to this do the Philadelphia 76ers have the best Trio in the NBA a lot of teams don’t build their teams in this manner where they acquire three stars but darl mury has a star Theory and finally he was able to accomplish getting that third star Paul George is a drastic upgrade over Tobias Harris Joel embiid was on his way to winning a second MVP before he got hurt he was averaging 35 points per game and was very efficient on the offensive event and he’s a spectacular defensive player and then you have Tyrese Maxi who’s so quick who’s so fast who made huge strides last year in his overall game offensively and defensively scoring the basketball creating for others and I just love the makeup of what all three players bring to the floor you think about the other big threes in the NBA Drew holiday Jaylen Brown Jason Tatum nicolea yic Jamal Murray Michael Porter Desmond Bane John Morant and jiren Jackson there aren’t a lot of big threes as I noted so Philadelphia well equipped here and I’m so excited to see what these three players can do because I think that they all complement one another very very well on both ends of the floor Nick nurse has to be elated that he has this talented roster at his disposal rmbi Maxi and PG the best Trio in the NBA if you think so I want you to hit that thumbs up icon and like the video if not I want you to comment why it was important I thought for Philly to bring back Kelly UB he embraced his role under Nick nurse the athleticism he finally tapped into that to become a really solid defensive player and know that at times he got burnt by Jaylen Brunson in that first round but at least he had the one two to try to defend him and be that lock down guy that the Sixers needed in addition to Nicholas patum now Paul George I imagine will be the player who’s trailing at Jaylen Brunson or some of the top Wings in the NBA I know that Kelly ub’s three-point numbers weren’t great last year 31.1% he’s a very hot and cold offensive player but what the Sixers benefited from and having UB last year obviously he played on the vet MIM now he’s going to be about $8 million per year but it’s length it’s athleticism it’s playmaking it’s defense and now they have that once again and continued continuity which I think is really important for the Sixers team Joel embiid has even spoken to that and then you take a look at what Caleb Martin has done over his last four years he’s played in a lot of big games he’s mentally and physically tough he can give you length athleticism and defense he can give you a little bit of playmaking he can knock down the three he could take it to the cup and he was a byproduct of that Miami Heat culture which I think is going to be able to help Philadelphia as they look to be more mentally tough and it was huge for them to round out their roster with a player like this they could have brought in a vetman guy instead they gave Caleb Martin some decent coin and I’m glad that he’s a Philadelphia 76er so with what the Sixers have been able to accomplish here going back to what I was talking about with the big three you have Maxi three level score he can kind of do everything Paul George three-level scorer excellent Defender and he’s comfortable playing off ball Joel embiid spectacular Defender as passing ability has gotten better he can score from all three levels and then as compliments to that you have the athletic wing and Kelly UB is going to get some more open looks just naturally as a byproduct of the Sixers being a little bit better Caleb Martin too and then driving Lanes will open up for really everybody too so you’ll see those seams I think offensively for the Sixers and Nick nurse does a good job of drawing up some plays in the half court and everything just seems to be coming together finally and I’m always going to be a glass half full approach guy even though I’m very negative when it comes to the Sixers but I just really like what darl Moore has been able to do with the construction of this roster from the starters to some of the returning pieces you bring back Kyle Lowry the extension of the coach on the floor he can play on ball off ball leadership qualities and a tone Setter last year with the Sixers 23 games played after they got him from the buyout Market eight points per game 44 a half% from the field 40 plus per from three a willing Defender who is gritty and tough as Nails how about the play we’ve seen from Ricky Council throughout the NBA Summer League we needed to see the game slow down for him a little bit check three-point numbers be a little bit better check he’s also been able to display the athleticism that we saw in moments last year is this a player who could play the wing maybe play the four from time to time after the exit of bball Paul these summer league numbers are awesome of course it’s going up against lesser competition but 19 and a half points 42% from the field almost 36% from three that efficiency will play for a back end of the rotation type of player who’s still young who chip can still be molded which brings us to this question could we see a breakout season from Ricky Council yeah I think we absolutely could see a big year here coming up for Ricky Council for a couple reasons one because I think he’s coming along in his development enough where he’s talented enough at this point where he can make an impact as a rotation player for the Sixers we’ve seen him be more comfortable in the summer league with the ball in his hands he has a better handle a better control on offense he’s hitting that corner three hitting the catch and shoot three and just looks so confident that’s what you love to see but the Sixers are also kind of going to need him this season because when you think about the way the Sixers team is constructed right now they have a lot of money poured into Joel embiid Tyrese Maxi Paul George they don’t have a lot of other salaries that they’re going to be able to move the deadline outside of a KJ Martin so there’s not very many avenues for the Sixers to go upgrade their roster at the trade deadline now they can always shop the buyout market and things like that but they’re going to need somebody like Ricky Council who is on such a cheap affordable deal to step up and if he can that’s huge because again the Sixers are really cash strapped really kind of almost stuck with this team that they have now my will find creative ways to get better I’m sure yeah but if you can save money and get a player that some people are comparing to early in his career Jaylen Brown you know I’m not 100% sold on that but he has shown a lot and I think a breakout season for him this year could be you know playing 25 minutes a night maybe scoring close to 10 a game so we’ll see what we can get from Ricky but it’s been great so far in the summer league again we’ve talked about this before but the Sixers getting ahead of it and signing him to that deal that they did if he ends up being like a solid rotation piece it’s going to be at a bargain because he’s pretty much playing on like a vetman type of contract and then another returning piece chip talked about this on Friday as the Sixers brought back KJ Marton he’s hoping to be a better fit this year he’s hoping to more so be a part of this rotation this is another athletic player and we’ve seen an increase and the emphasis of bringing in athletes for Daryl mury especially when you think about the teams are going to have to go up against in the Eastern Conference Milwaukee Bucks New York Knicks and the Boston Celtics veteran editions this off season one of the best rebounders of this generation and Andre Drummond who’s so active on the glass runs the floor well finally Joel embiid has a legitimate backup and Andre Drummond I know that he’s not the starter that he once was to start his career coming out of Yukon with the Detroit Pistons one thing remains constant his ability to rebound the basketball 2020 2021 average 15 and 12 Following Season split between Philly and Brook we saw what he can do 8 and N following year 6 and six and then last year 8 and 1 half and N he also does a good job of being an instinctual player on the defensive end getting his hands and his arms in the way of passing Lan generating Steals on top of rebounds and blocks that’s a game-changing type of player right there on the peripheries of this roster and then Eric Gord of course not the player that he once was he is older but this is a vetman player who Daryl Mor is very familiar with who the sample size shows you over the last couple of years has been very consistent in knocking down the three and then lastly the two draft picks for the Sixers in the 2024 NBA draft Jared McCain off to a slow start in summer league I’m really excited to see the development two years from now let’s say for ADM Bona I mean a player around the rim who’s a high flyer excellent athlete he’s blocking shots like crazy during the summer league for McCain keep in mind that at Duke last year started the season ice cold and then finished as their best player confidence grew game slowed down he found his shot for the summer league so far we’ve seen the glimpses we’ve seen the quick release we’ve seen some playmaking the wraparound dish that he made to Bona was excellent this week the transition three ball is also there you know he’s averaging 24 plus minutes per night 10 plus points five rebounds two plus dimes the field goal number is not good 26.5% from the field 25% from three really last night after that first quarter started to find a stride for Bona three and a half blocks per game now he’s going to have to develop away from the 10 and he’s going to have to not be as aggressive as far as him committing fouls but you see the ability there of the freak athlete that he can become and he plays bigger than his size chip because he can jump so high the vertical as we mentioned draft Night 40 plus inches so your thoughts on the rookie so far you concerned with McCain what have you seen from Bona yeah so look with McCain I understand you know the splits haven’t been good he hasn’t been efficient struggled finding that shot a little bit yeah but when I look at the summer league you know shots are going to fall shots are not going to fall it is what it is he’s a young player what I’m really looking for is you know the eye test how does he look at on the floor does he look confident with the ball in his hands playing off the ball does he know what his role is his responsibilities does he look like he knows what he’s doing out there and as Paul George commented on the other day watching Jerry MCC in the summer league like this kid looks like he belongs even if he’s not hitting shots like he could be and like I believe he will be once the actual season begins I mean when he has the ball in his hands he looks so smooth and so comfortable in the pick and roll game he can get Defenders on his back he can get to his spots get the little midi the little push shot from the free throw line and in you can get that up and even though they’re not falling again he he’s just playing smart good basketball and you can tell he’s a good player even if all the shots are not falling and then for Bona I mean all the stuff that we said pre-draft about him we’ve seen in the summer league I mean the the athlete he is the the energetic ability and presence that he brings and the ability to block shots again at only 6869 like it really is tremendous to see and you know still has some of those problems as you mentioned chase that he had at UCLA with fouling a little bit too often but he has been playing basketball for very long no and so that’ll come he’s going to be able to learn from a Joel embiid learn from an Andre Drummond and get coached up he’s a guy who I don’t expect to really play this much this year if at all this year but in two years three years like once Drummond you know starts to get older and maybe he you move on from Drummond and then Bona can come slide right in and be that perfect backup center so right now early on the early returns from these two players look tremendous and I’m excited to see what they continue to do they have another game uh tonight I believe so we’ll see what they can do the rest of this summer league there you go an in-depth roster breakdown a look at what the Sixers have to offer right now regular season not going to get underway obviously until the end of October but a few months away from that date things are shaping up pretty good as for some of the moves that the Sixers could make from now until then they do have three roster spots left plus one more two-way spot maybe that will go to a summer league Hooper has really been balling out
