Indiana Pacers Summer League Postgame Media Availability (at Phoenix Suns) | July 16, 2024
JB able to get the first win how’ you feel about the way in which your team was able to close and capture Victory uh I felt really good about it um especially with that that um that low we had at the end of at the end of the first half uh we kind of tried to do too much try to play a little oneon-one uh to be so to be able to close it out the way we did uh in the second half very refreshing the ball moved uh we got stopped we rebound and uh we was able to play in transition what was the conversation going into the second half in terms of turnovers and defense in particular cuz that seemed to be elevated and that got you back in the game yeah um well offensively was about sharing the ball working together find the best shot available and then uh defensively just finishing plays um guarding without fouling getting the rebound and then just playing in transition how about jarus what went into the decision to to play him at the two and how did you feel like he did throughout that uh we want to see him guard um you know smaller guys uh be uh be disruptive on the ball uh we thought putting him at the two would give us the better chance to see that uh we thought he did a great job of um being up um in our in our defensive pressure and um we also try to put him in pick a rol to see if he can make plays not only for himself for others but for others as well we thought he did a good job we talk about Johnny’s offense how about defensively and what you guys are asking from him um he’s very solid uh uses his feet and his hands very well uh communicates he’s he’s physical um um he’s doing a great job defensively I know a lot of teams arey trying to you know just looking at his physique and they’re trying to come at him um he’s playing really well on both ends of the floor and uh we’re excited about it growth with Kendall you know his game with some familiarity there what do you need to see from him during during this summer league St um same as all I got just hard play uh competing on uh every possession um offensively being able to catch and shoot make quick decisions uh driving the basketball then defensively just uh playing with that energy that effort pressure uh he’s a guy with uh unbelievable athletic ability we just want to see him use that and U use that as a positive on both ends of the floor so at the end of the game you had Zach I think draw maybe the offensive set we talk about what it means for you how about your staff and and the opportunity they are getting in particular oh yeah um uh Luke had the uh Scout today uh Chu does a great job of U of helping me on all fronts uh especially late game situations um it’s it’s uh the the main thing I’ve learned throughout this whole process is that you can’t do it alone uh you have to use your staff and I think uh our staff is doing a great job uh Martin’s running the defense um so he has those guys playing hard you know on the defensive end um it’s a total team effort do you sense like a guy like Martins finding his voice much like you were trying to last year absolutely I think he’s doing a great job uh from start to finish um I’m sure he’s learning and growing and uh it’s it’s a process it’s suly for for all of us not only for our players but for the coaching staff as well for the short amount of time you spent with Enrique what stands out about him to you uh his energy his effort um uh his willingness to be unselfish uh to play the to play the game on both ends of the floor um but I think the main thing is his his vers versatility being at the guard multiple positions and uh his just his energy and his and his effort is outstanding how difficult can that transition be coming from college when you were playing in the post mostly and and now you’re having to really adjust to this level and doing different things yeah well the game is faster uh from college no matter what position you play and uh going from the post to the perimeter it’s difficult and uh I think he’s making the transition pretty smooth uh we’re excited from him moving forward and uh looking forward to what he can what he can do what did you see from Johnny today that you liked or where has he improved over the course of the week Johnny’s been solid you know playing um you kind of know what you’re getting out of him uh at a very young age uh you know a guy that can shoot the ball um um and defensively just the way he’s moving his feet uh talking and competing on all levels feels good he it’s a good feeling to get a win on the board um yeah I mean wasn’t really getting them to drop tonight uh so it it was a really good feeling to see that last one go through the net um but yeah I’m just happy we went out with a win what are your focuses defensively on that side of the ball um really just to you know guard my own um obviously it’s a big adjustment um guarding you know his Pros um very very quick very phys physical so really just kind of learning how to you know use my length effectively um and then yeah not no blow bars you did say shooting was a little bit of a struggle how much more comfortable are you on the corner threes versus you know out on the wing on the ARs top of the arc is that your most comfortable shot uh I mean I don’t look at it that way but yeah I would say it’s more more of an efficient shot for me but I’m not you know thinking that I’m just shooting if I’m open yeah you trying to attack more as well throughout something put it just you know stay as aggressive as possible um yeah just trying to make the make the bests what what felt different out there today or you know another game stacked up more experience out there did anything feel different on the court today um you know obviously it was a sloppy start to the game a lot of turnovers um you know was kind of fighting against fatigue a little bit um but yeah I’m really really happy with the guys how they kind of fought through it um but yeah it was uh it was it was it was it was a battle for sure yeah another big alyo for you as well on the break how did that one feel it was good yeah I wasn’t uh I was surprised I got up that one I was I was pretty tired but yeah it felt good I’m not sure if you watched the game this morning but Australia beat Serbia did you get a chance to watch that and what were your thoughts on it I couldn’t actually watch it I was looking for a for a spot to watch it but I couldn’t see I saw what saw it though um saw the stats so that was uh super exciting for them um they’re looking really good any messages to the boys over there heading to the Olympics I mean yeah just keep stacking days I think yeah I mean I’m watching uh whole whole Australia is watching so um keep going what’s your plan after summer League’s over with do you know what what what will be next for you how quickly you’ll come to India and get settled in uh that’s a good question yeah I’m not sure what was it like to get the first win today and in a much better second half from you guys yeah I think uh first of all the win felt amazing you know I think the last two games we were just a brick away from winning so I think we uh took that big step as a team and then uh secondly I think the second half we kind of locked in and cleaned up a lot of mistakes we’ve had in the past games on the turnover on the both ends really who’s been help who’s been helpful in aiding in your transition from college to this level just everyone everyone on the team you know my family um I think you know Walker has been helpful he’s been giving me some good tips um oh like everyone everyone really is it a little different when you got guys that that are your size playing with you a couple of them at the same time time oh yeah yeah you know just got to you know every every uh every level is an adjustment so you just got to kind of make that adjustment so
