Indiana Pacers Talk: Thoughts for Next Season (Jarace Walker, Bennedict Mathurin, Myles Turner)

Alex Golden is joined by Derek Schultz to discuss all things Pacers. They dive into the the Pacers signing of James Wiseman and what that means for him and the team. They then pivot into a discussion on Jarace Walker. How he has looked in Summer League, his role for next season with the team and what might be difficult for him in his development. After that, they talk in-depth about Bennedict Mathurin and how crucial his year 3 jump is. What Mathurin needs to do to reach that All-Star level and more. Then, they spend a chunk of time discussing Turner entering the final year of his contract, how he fits now and long term, what the center market might be next free agency and the lack of a replacement if he walks next summer. To close out the show, they discuss how Furphy fits with this team already, why Rick Carlisle will love him and how Indiana found another steal in the 2nd round of the NBA Draft. Derek and Alex also dive into the 2-way spots on the roster, the uncertainty of who will get the remaining 2 spots and who was the biggest winner and loser of the offseason.

  1. Every time I try and work out the minutes I just get annoyed. We can't play Jarace enough, Sheppard is likely squeezed a lot, Furphy will definitely not see the floor a lot, Mathurin can't start if Nembhard starts (and I think I still prefer Nembhard) or Mathurin starts over Nesmith which I'm not sure on either as I think we'll lose out defensively again.

I genuinely think we should expect a trade before trade deadline this coming winter.

  2. Walker is doing exactly what is asked… Turned himself into a Knock down shooter and has been solid on D. He will be fine off ball. Stop dreading next July and enjoy the current roster.

  3. Loaded where? The PACERS still dont have a 3. Sheppard is not a 3, Nesmith is not a 3. Mathurin is the only 2/3 that i see….

  4. Benn has shown he can pass. Also I don’t get why Benn should be the only one who has to improve his defense. Why doesn’t hali get that same accountability? Hes slowly becoming a trae young on that end and we see how no one can fit next to trae regardless of his offensive excellence
