Dmytro Skapintsev Having UNBELIEVABLE Impact! Kolek CONTINUES To Impress… | Knicks News

The Knicks faced off against the Brooklyn Nets in their second Summer League game of the summer. Unfortunately, NY didn’y pull off the victory but we were able to see the Knicks rookies continue to impress. Knicks 2024 first round pick, Pacome Dadiate had an impressive showing on defense and had some magical moments on offense. Tyler Kolek continues to be one of the must watch players in Summer League with unbelievable play making abilities. But as far as centers go, 7’1 Russian center, Dmytro Skapintsev from Summer League is one of the standout players in the last two games. If this impact continues, NY should offer him a training camp contract… Troy Mahabir breaks all of this down!

  1. The Russian center on the Summer league team showed that he has very good shooting ability and he did a very good job protecting the rim.

  2. Dmytro lowkey brought everything Hartenstein would usually bring minus the perimeter defending. I wouldn’t mind him making a roster spot

  3. Major news the Knicks aren’t trading for the centers I told you about every major news day ! Knick Yak is my daddy !

  4. UKRAINIAN NOT RUSSIAN AND HE'S BEEN ON THE WESTCHESTER KNICKS FOR 2 SEASONS NOW. I WOULDNT MIND HIM GETTING A SPOT BUT CALM DOWN THIS IS ONLY SUMMER LEAGUE! LET'S NOT FORGET ABOUT KEVIN KNOX 😂😂😂

  5. I haven’t seen him but from what you’ve described about him the Knicks may very well have found their replacement for Hartenstein!! Take notice Leon.

  6. Kolek doesn't have any turnovers, but because he was lucky that at least 3 times in today's game, the ball was recovered by the team. In the last game I remember this also happening once. And although he shows good movement, good passing, good vision of the game and ability with the ball, the person who has shown up more for the game and taken the lead to make shots is Dwane Washington Jr. So whoever exposes himself more will also have more chance of making mistakes. I like what I'm seeing from Kolek, but the impression is that he's playing in the safe zone. The high number of assists is also the result of numerous times in which he refrains from shooting to pass the ball to someone else to do it for him. Dadiet is one of those taking this risk for him. So, until Kolek dares no more, it will not be possible to fully evaluate him. Because even though he's a point guard, he can't join the main team just because he's a good distributor of plays. I see potential in him, but he needs to take more risks. That's exactly what Dadiet, Jokubaitis and Skapintsev are doing.
Just another point to add: I know Kolek is already part of the roster and he may be performing exactly what the coach asked him to do, but I can only work with what I know and see. Best regards.

  7. Knicks actually had a Russian C once and his name was Timofey Mozgov. Play pretty well on Knicks until he was traded for Carmelo. Was raw as well but turned out fine and play 5 seasons for Nuggets plus a few more seasons. Dmytro could probably be a band aid for now and utilized Hukaporti too. Surprise Hukaporti has yet to showcase his abilities as he has done in Australian league. In videos he looks good but in real live action and this is not even big boy league yet and he has yet to break out. Put both these big bodies on the bench for now in case Robinson goes down. Wouldn’t count on Sims as he’s a no show year 4 and what if he goes down with injury too. Re sign Achiuwa. Not sure what the hold up is as they sign Cam Payne to a contract. Even 1 year deal will suffice for now. Wait till trade deadline to get that C or put chips all in for Kessler sending McBride, Sims and Two 1st round pick to Ainge. If Knicks do that they jammed themselves up with no future 1st rounders til after 2031

  8. Dmytro is Ukrainian*. An article I was reading had him as Russian. I appreciate the community for the help and correction. Regardless, Skapintsev was very impressive during SL. Thanks everyone!

    -Recap.

  9. Bro, Dmytro Skapintsev was actually already signed to the Knicks on a 2-way contract back in December 2023, but he was waived in January 2024, and then re-signed with the Westchester Knicks. So, he's been signed with the team before. I don't mind seeing him being given another opportunity with the Knicks this upcoming 2024/2025 season, though. And yep, I'm also impressed with the rookies. It's unfortunate that Kevin McCullar is still nursing the injury he suffered in college back in March, though.

  10. Kolek is trash dude. He was getting burned by the smallest dude on the court. His defense is just horrible. He will never see our court.

  11. The truth is that none of the guys on the SL roster are ready to come into an actual NBA game. Kolek has awesome court vision, but his defense is terrible. Dmytro isn't the best defender himself, Huk looks out of place, and Pacome and is raw and just trying to do too much. They all need to spend time in G league.

  12. I really do like Kolek and Dmytro a lot. Another player that has stood out is Duane Washington. Through the first two games averaging 23.5 points with a FG% of 51.35. However he does need to clean up on the turnover side but if he can fix that he'll be great.

  13. I was utterly unimpressed with ALL of our summer league players. Kolek has zero impact if he doesn't have the ball or when he's playing D. Our bigs can't rebound and play D. The wings can't shoot and need grooming. Toppin was the most impressive and I'm not sure if he isn't a good garbage type player who can get points and steals off of his energy, not skill. Knicks youngsters look like the 2nd rounders that they were.

  14. Dmytro Skapintsev

19pts, 9 Reb,2 Ast,3 Stl,1 Blk – He is Nice and can potentially stretch the floor. NYks need to snag him up on a two way contract asap

  15. Through two games Dmytro Skapintsev averaging 14 points 8 rebounds with a FG% of 76.2. I actually do like him off the bench. A solid big man who can shoot the mid range and three. Just needs to pick up his intensity on defense.

  16. Kolek will be a tremendous point guard sees the whole court better than Deuce could ever do. Trade Duece in a package for a center and then keep Rokas on the roster as combo guard.
