The Philadelphia 76ers Built Their Best Team in Years: 2024 NBA Free Agency Offseason Review Ep 4

When it was reported that James Harden wanted out and that the Sixers weren’t going to extend Tyrese Maxey last summer, it became obvious that they were going to pivot to cap space in 2024. They were limited in ways to significantly improve the roster with their payroll tied to their big signings back in 2019. It made a lot of sense to plan for 2024 cap space, especially with a lot of big money coming off the books and an opportunity to keep Maxey as well with his low cap hold. This wasn’t the strongest free agent class in recent memory but the Sixers capitalized on getting some of the best players that were available to them. But did they raise their titles odds enough to fulfill their ultimate goal? And how will Paul George’s contract look in the backend of it? This might be the most talented and fundamentally sound team the Sixers had since 2018-19.

  1. Thanks for the informative video. Was there any upside to giving KJ Martin an $8M deal rather than something in the $13M range? It seems like they've limited the players they can get back in a deadline deal just to save the owner a few million bucks, but maybe I'm missing something.

  2. Really good explanation with all the sublties of cap management like signing Caleb Martin before Drummond to save some space. WIth what was out there I think Daryl Morey did a really good job so far. Anxious to see how he fills out those last 2 vet min spots.Everyone wants Marcus Morris and it's a feel good story but at this point he is a open door on defense and he never really was a great rebounder. I'd like to see either Nwora or Lamar Stevens or Osman for one of those spots – younger energy guys who can score a bit, rebound a bit, and defend.

  3. Yossi I have read that KJ could be traded from 15 January and get another player that doubles his salary becouse Martin´s contract 2nd and 3rd years are not guaranteed. Is this correct? How much salary player could we get using KJ straight on in february? and, sorry, i didnt get it… if we trade KJ and some minimum guys… could we sign another minimum players after? Thanks! Well Done!
