I’ve gotta say something about Fred VanVleet…

It’s been a long time coming. As the BIGGEST FVV detractor and a person who absolutely led the brigade to have him leave the Raptors, massively swung fan sentiment on Fred, who scrutinized, dissected every presser, who made 20 low-light videos and trolled the dude endlessly, I’m finally done processing these very complex feelings about one of the 10 most accomplished Raptors of all time.

It’s been a long time coming, but I’m finally ready to move on.

  1. Two stages of Freddy. Pre and post Scottie Barnes. Respect to the underdog that helped us get a championship🫡

  2. My disillusionment with Fred started several years ago before he got so selfish. He considered himself "the Man" and played to the press. My problem was that I could never imagine Fred leading a team to a championship or making the players around him better. A Fred centered team will never be a lot of fun to watch. A Scottie centered team has the potential to be a lot of fun to watch
It's unforgivable that Nick Nurse let this happen and that Nurse was allowed to do this.

  3. Oh, man. You didn't show the play where they're on a fast break, and OG gets pissed bcz Fred looks him off and takes a contested shot instead. I only remember it bcz OG never shows any real emotion, but it was the first time I'd ever seen him get upset at a teammate 😅

  4. I never doubted Fred for betting on himself.. I’m surprised that he attempted to burn an entire franchise to the ground for his money..

  5. Go look up franchise leaders for points scored and assists in a single game. Fred has both records for Raptors. Not a coincidence.

  6. Can’t blame Fred for betting on himself to get paid and be shocked with the results. He’s done far more good for the organization and his story should make any player who wants to develop and get paid by us or someone else come here.

  7. I always like Fred, the underdog story, the hard work, the basketball intelligence — I like his podcast appearances even if you could feel the self promotion and manipulation a bit. And of course there's the championship he helped win. I loved that he got the All Star.

At the same time it's fair to say that Fred iso-ball and the Fred universe that existed briefly was driving me crazy. He's really good, but he's not that good; and Nick Nurse enabled the shit out of it.

I like Fred enough to say I'm glad he got paid, and that he's doing well in Houston trying to also be as much "that guy" as he can be now within practical limits .. With the Raptors he did what he needed to do for that contract. Fair enough..

  8. Who gives a shit about multimillionaires making another $100 million? This mans already got generational wealth, so stop licking the boot Rob. There is no excuse to betray the team and the fans for "your next $100 million". Those kind of selfish money chasers deserve no respect in sports.
