Perhaps the Blazers have already sort of decided that Scoot is not gonna be good enough.

Discussion of some apparent Scoot Henderson “conspiracy theorists” begins at 23:36, and Bill Oram says some people have expressed this line of thinking to him (tho thinks that’s wildly premature at present).

I’m sure I’ll be attacked but I don’t think it’s crazy to look at scoot and wonder what his path to true game changing super stardom would be. It’s really really hard in today’s nba to be a superstar guard. Of course it’s way too early blah blah he’s only 19. But he’s reaaaaaly gotta step up the skill parts of his game, the finishing, shooting and turnovers are have to be really tightened up.

I do believe in his work ethic, it’s what gives me hope, but his skill set was just so much more raw than I thought and his athleticism was just not quite what was advertised. We’ll see, big year for him.

BUT I do have a lot of faith in him being a very good player who can be a lead guard on championship teams.

My hope for Scoot Henderson is that he becomes a true pass first point guard and follows the career path of Rajon Rondo. I do not see him becoming an elite scorer of the basketball in the next few seasons.

Again: Kemba Walker was worse than Scoot his rookie year.

“Blazer fans are being asked to take a really patient view of this thing.”

    Are we?

I personally never have minded waiting 1-2 seasons to see a young player — especially point guard — develop. I’m not sure when that became unreasonable. I rather enjoy it, although it got damned rough. But he just argued for playing Scoot in SL only so fans can see him…. that seems incredibly shortsighted. That’s our team goal? Showcasing last year’s rookie in summer league? I’ve been satisfied by other, more knowledgeable folks who convinced me that summer league isn’t really a great place for him. Whatever, I don’t want to litigate that.

Overall though I just don’t get it. I’m a Blazers fan, I’m rooting for Scoot but if he doesn’t work out, I won’t take it personally, or get defensive. I’ll just move on.

Why are so many people in such a hurry to call him a bust? Just wait, and if he’s a bust, you can be right about it for the rest of your life.

  6. I don’t think Bill Oram has said a single positive thing about the Blazers since he came here from covering the lakers. He also has some very interesting takes on trans people.

  7. How would we know a 19/20 year old kid is not gonna be good enough?

Oram reminds me of Skip Bayless, mainly because I don’t care what either of them think about anything

Just because people talk doesnt mean anyone should listen to what they say.
