Fischer: “I heard from so many player agents that you don’t want to get to free agency anymore… Agents now want to get their guys traded first to a situation that they have some type of knowledge are looking to reward said player with an extension. They want to circumvent free agency altogether.”

This is ok for us. You still need cap space to pay guys, and we have assets to trade for guys. But it does make it more blatant that you need to draft guys, you can’t recreate 2019 anymore

Yeah we would’ve been cooked if we commited to getting a star in the 2025 free agency pool

I don’t see how players dictating where they get traded to is good for the league. I understand that it can be difficult to suddenly get traded and move to a new city but that is a part of the deal and the players get paid hundreds of millions of dollars.

Forcing your way out is the new free agency. It also transfers your bird rights so you can sign more with the new team.

Considering we are going to have possibly 90M in cap room, this isn’t what you want to hear. Not devastating by any means but also suboptimal

Yep I mean it’s been this way for a while now. That’s why the entire strategy of hoping for a star free agent is an outdated approach
