Newly-elected PBA chairman Ricky Vargas said the four-point shot is among several rule changes approved by the board on the first day of its planning session at the Swissotel Nankai.
An arc measuring 27 feet will be put on the court during games. The three-point line, which measures 23 feet, will stay.
The 49-year-old league first introduced the creative rule during the 2023 All-Star games in Passi City, Iloilo, and was retained in the same mid-season event during the 2024 edition in Bacolod City earlier this year.

“Your move nba”
-pba
says it will be implemented for the Governors Cup
looked it up and it is 1 of 2 tournaments the PBA has. winner gets to sign a foreign player
cool that theyve been experimenting with things. the winner of the cup getting a “draft pick” was among various ideas ppl were floating for the NBA Cup
I’m picturing a lot of people just hucking it from the logo.
*happy antoine walker noises*
and just like that, professional basketball became more accessible
The move was made to force teams to stop running zone defense apparently
Lol. IIRC tayo yung may pinaka mababang 3pt % sa Asia. Hirap tayong maka-develop ng legit shooters, kahit yung mga okay ang percentages sa amateur level hindi nag ta-translate sa pro eh. Sana naman makatulong tong rule change to haha
I remember some rules in MBA (a league in Philippines way back early 2000s)
1. Free-three – An option to trade a player’s two free throws for a free three (one attempt at the three-point arc above the free throw line, worth three points if successfully made) at the last two minutes of the fourth quarter.
2. Blitz Three – Any field goal converted within five seconds of a change of possession will be worth three points. A red siren is installed at the backboard to indicate the Blitz Period.
In 2050 every nba team will have a Philippine role player that just bombs from distance.
Cant believe someone posted a PBA article, im a Filipino btw, i used to watching that league since i was a kid then i stopped watching for like 8yrs now.
Future PBA Legend Steph Curry
Don’t stop there. 5 from half court. 6 from inside opponent 3 point line. 7 from inside opponent restricted area
Blaha is creaming himself right now
So 25% from there will be worth the same as 50% from 2. not friendly for spectators to see people chucking shots and hitting 25% of them
Add a 5pt & 10pt shot while we’re at it so no lead will ever be safe.
Incoming 30%TS
i really would want the circle in the middle to be the 4 point shot, since we already call them logo threes. make the circle a standard size for all courts and its already there. why not make it worth an extra point to shoot from the logo?
I feel like US Basketball should experiment with these types of stuff with the G-League. If it works then implement it in the NBA, if it doesn’t well no harm done.
The 3 point shot is already borderline problematic at this point. I’m stunned at how many people think this is an idea worth messing with
Anyone remember MTV’s Rock and Jock games with the ten point shot. Oh yeah. The 90’s.
North Korea and the Philippines are advancing the game in ways that no one has ever dared. NBA Jam will soon be classified as a simulation rather than an arcade game.
The league is so bad that i feel like even relatives with free tickets wont watch the game
I’d rather get rid of the 3pt line than add a 4 point line
4 point line should be the half court.
Midorima full court shot should be the only 4pointer.
Pilipinos are good in making stupid changes..
What’s fun here is that 8 point lead is just a 2 possession game.
Down by four points? You can tie that with one shot.
This is wild! Imagine players casually sinking four-point shots it’s gonna make games even more intense and exciting to watch.
That’s where they mostly shoot from anyway. lol

PBA is a bullshit league
PBA is the most hilarious basketball league
Philippines always coming up with the important innovations.
Dumb for a pro league. They should be trying to compete with the rest of the world under FIBA rules. Leave this stuff to things like Big 3.
They’re desperate because the PBA is declining recently. More and more star players are taking money outside the country
No issues with experimentation on this stuff but my guess is that 27ft isn’t far enough and that gap between 3 and 4pt lines will see very few shots taken
It’s the PBA. Why not just go for 10 like everyone else?
