    >I said I thought Payne would get significant minutes next season. Turns out that, based on current rotation projections, I was wrong. Before we get to that, I just want to touch on my answer in the Mailbag. I thought Payne would get rotation minutes off the Knick bench because I knew they had interest in Tyus Jones. Jones would obviously get significant minutes with the Knicks if he’d signed here. So[ I assumed that the Knicks had a similar plan for Payne.](https://x.com/TheKnicksRecap/status/1814664148233404591) That assumption was wrong.

The humility to admit he got it wrong, explain why/how he got it wrong, and quickly correct the record is just another reason why Begley is the GOAT

Having multiple options is great love this

Makes a lot more sense, Payne should be out of the rotation if everyone is healthy.

I feel like I woke up in some weird alternate reality where all Knicks fans are happy and we always do the absolute best things with the best people at all times.

I’m just gunna soak here for a while I think.

As much as I believe this will evenutally happen, he hasn’t seen training camp yet and there’s no way Thibs is giving him legit #2 minutes off the rip without feeling confident he can handle his defensive responsibilities

McBride is in the regular rotation? Playing over who? What MEANINGFUL chunk of 48 minutes is Deuce taking from Bridges/DiVo.

i’m still not buying it. kolek is backing up jb. deuce is still in the rotation? ok, so he gets 15 min as the 2? divo is gonna play 20 min, minimum. so i guess he’s going to be a 3? hart can clearly play some 4 and we won’t get killed on the boards at that position, but still. tiny lineup. precious or sims as of now are the most likely candidates for our backup 2. sims is not a long term solution. precious is a bit undersized, which is only a problem if the rest of the lineup is small.

    kolek, deuce, divo, hart, precious

forget how effective you personally think that lineup could be. is that a lineup you think thibs would use?

seems like there are two possibilities:

    1. kolek will be in the g league, deuce is backup pg, we run a 9 man rotation

    2. deuce and precious get (signed and) traded for a backup big, payne backs up jb until kolek is ready, or kolek gets a shot until it’s not working.

a third possibility that makes a TON of sense strategically is to trade divo. he lost his starting role, has a ton of value relative to his contract, and unlike deuce, is expensive enough to get us a good center, unlike deuce who would require additional salary if it’s not for a rookie deal guy (kessler, duren). but we all know that the nova shit is very real, and divo is not going anywhere, so it’s really just the two options for me.

  8. YanksJetsKnicks

They aren’t breaking up the Nova group before they play a game together lol. Trading Divo for a backup C is crazy.

  9. mynamenospaces

I’ll believe it when I see it. Thibs will play whoever is delivering

  10. datatadata

Come on now. He had a couple of nice games during SUMMER LEAGUE

  11. TimeTravelingTiddy

If anybody can develop a PG, it is Thibs

  12. Nothing said about the lineups matters at all until they get into preseason games.

McBride is a 2 Guard. He can play with Kolek. Hart really saves the Bench with his Rebounding.

  14. Kolek is the 2nd point off the bench but will get a quick hook during spots for the vet leadership of Campaign. Plus he has good playoff experience, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Campaign’s the first guard off the bench come playoff time.

By the 2nd half of the season ppl gonna be saying fire Thibs cuz Kolek isn’t getting enough burn lol

Kolek is good, and I believe he will take a part in Thibs rotation.
