What We REALLY Learned About These Raptors In Summer League

The Toronto Raptors have just wrapped up their trip to Las Vegas for NBA Summer League with a loss to the San Antonio Spurs but we learned plenty about the newest and youngest players on the roster. Masai Ujiri’s front office prioritized the NBA draft over free agency to build their roster for the present and the future and we got a first-hand look at the FOUR players they drafted in the most recent edition of the league’s selection phase.

The Raptors selected Ja’Kobe Walter, Jonathan Mogbo, Jamal Shead and Ulrich Chomche with their picks and in this video on Amateur Hour Sports, Jacob Gramegna breaks down their performances to show what they could bring to the NBA, what they need to work on and how excited fans should be about seeing them in a proper Raptors uniform this upcoming season and beyond.

  1. Darko said Mogbo is going to be playing as a 4 most of the time. They’re only going to play him as a center depending on match up’s.

  2. Order how they were selected. Potential a B+.
Carlton- pg- offensively is good and great athlete.
Walter can no similar to Anunoby.
This year we have a direction.
Dick and Walter. As a duo competing for minutes could be good.

  3. Time will tell whether any draft pick of the Raptors from last month will play consistently in the NBA for that team and play WELL. Hopefully this rebuild won't end up being an endless one as those of the Buffalo Sabres and Ottawa Senators of the NHL so far have.

  4. The blatant DISRESPECT to not even mention Branden Carlson our undrafted 2-way rookie is insane. Carlson is a true 7-footer that can knock down 3s and block shots, he's the exact type of center that the Raptor's fanbase and especially you have been begging for since Marc Gasol left the team. Carlson has been undoubtedly been one of the 3 best players on the Raptor's summer league roster and has earned a promotion from his 2-way contract to a full guaranteed main roster contract. He has 100% proven that he has the potent to be the primary center for the Scottie era.

  5. It is well documented that European view African Americans as being bigger than they actually are. I have never heard a African American person say the Mogbo is a Center.
Totally ridiculous and a shame to life. very fk up hopefully it changes as I only like facts.
I do however agree Chomche was most impressive, this is due to the fact everyone else was less than Steller. This summer league was a bust for me. I finally found the cure to my insomnia. Keep up the good works

  6. Carlson, Chomche, Walter, Carton and Shead looked more comfortable out there than Ochai, who looked very disappointing!! I was hoping for big things for Ochai but he hasnt shown anything offensively. I know we all shouldn't take summer league as the gospel or be all and end all but the way Ochai played!! Reall concerning! He should be head and shoulders above the summer league hopefuls – he is going into his 3rd season and is already 24!! That scares me more if he was 21 or 22 I would understand more – realistically he doesnt have much time!!

  7. I thought the most of Battle and Chomche vs expectations. Carlson also better on Def at this level than expected. We will see if he can add weight?
