Disclaimer: This my first post, all hypothetical, slow-season conversation.
I was reading an article about the Warriors’ reluctance to include Brandin Podziemski (we could have had him) in a trade for Lauri Markkanen. To me, he’s their Austin Reaves on a rookie contract. Now, I know they aren’t exactly the same players and Austin is better than Podz. What surprised me was that Podz is the centerpiece of the trade and the Warriors’ reluctance to include him.
I love Austin like the rest of Los Angeles, but if he were the centerpiece of a Lauri Markkanen trade, would you not do it? The Lakers, as currently constructed, are very guard-heavy, and Markkanen would fill a much-needed stretch big position. Do you believe the Lakers hold Austin to similar regards? Imo It would be nice to swoop in and snag Lauri for Austin and picks while the Warriors think it over. Wishful thinking, I know.

I would do it but I don’t think the Jazz would accept.
The Jazz would value Podz more because he is younger and has a lot of potential to improve. He fits their timeline for a rebuild while Reaves is a fair bit older and probably doesn’t have as much room for improvement as Podz.

As much as I would want to keep AR, I would absolutely trade him for Lauri. AR is a really nice player but he’s a good to high quality role player on a title type team which we are currently not quite. Lauri would be a great 3rd best guy on what I could see as a title contending type team. His height and ability to space the floor is exactly what we could use.
