Golden State Warriors Dynasty Started By Trusting Their Youth, Why Should That Change Now?

Golden State Warriors Dynasty Started By Trusting Their Youth, Why Should That Change Now?

The Golden State Warriors dynasty was formed by slowly integrating young draft picks, Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green into the system. Vern Glenn of KPIX in San Francisco joins Charlie Walter to talk about how the Warriors made the wise decision of letting everything play out and why that may be the smart decision in the present day, too.

  1. I couldn’t believe they booed lacob over trading monta ellis of all players lmao. Shows how much the casual fan knows. He was exciting, but they sucked with him and they didn’t have an impactful center in my whole time as a warrior fan up until that point. Shows us how much fans really know, it was embarrassing. They just look at gaudy scoring stats and still do until this day

  2. I noticed Curry was getting his 3 point shots blocked a little more often this last season. But he still managed to put up the points. I think he will still be an all star for a couple more seasons. And will still be a very good player until he is 40. Good thing he has several young guys on the team so he won't have to play as many minutes after he Hits age 38. I just hope they hold onto their young guys. No use trading for Markannen.

  3. Trusting youth isn't how teams win titles. It's having a top 10 player surrounded by 1-2 other all NBA type players.
And, this is why Lacob screwed up. The '20 and '21 draft should have been about drafting win now players to maximize Steph's greatness. The '22 title happened despite of the draft not because of it.
Imagine if the Ws had Haliburton, Wagner and Trey Murphy. Would have been legit title contenders for the past 2 years.

  4. The warriors dynasty didn't start by trusting their youth, they didn't know what was about to happen. Plus golden state wasn't really a free agent destination cause they were so bad.

But now that they are established and have a mega superstar who can still play at a high level, the right thing to do is to provide that guy some help. When you age you need to be protected defensively and offensively and thats what the warriors are trying to do. Last season steph was tired because it was too much burden put on him as a 36 year old and you cannot count on 21 year olds to carry you, you need players in their prime and that's where lauri Markannen matters. He will relieve so much pressure off steph that it could actually extend his career. That's what Anthony Davis has done for LeBron and what magic has done for Kareem.

  5. The dynasty started by Kerr allowing Steph to shoot whenever he wanted. That and their center being hurt and Kerr having to sub in Draymond to take the center spot. They weren’t expecting what happened when they did that. As far as podz, he’s a local, fans like him, he’s loyal, don’t trade him. Especially not him plus picks. It’s one or the other.

Get a third team, if you have redundancy in a position, deal out other players, get a couple more first round picks, and send them to Utah without any players. It seems Danny might just want more picks and not players anyway. If he insists on podz, tell him to kick rocks. His player is marginally better and much older. Your player is younger and worth more.

  6. The dynasty started cause in back to back drafts…yall drafted 3 HOFamers. Since then the Warriors have drafted many players and none have really panned out or given a great opportunity. The league has caught u to the "3 is more than 2" perspective that they Warrirors took the league by storm. Trusting the youth is good but history shows young players under 24 ..dont win title. Podz, Kuminga and Moody are good but u wont win a title before curry retires with those guys

  7. Sure trust the youth of 27 yr old Lauri an All-star not a "potential" all-star a 7ft Stretch Big shooting 40% from 3 and grabbing 9 rebounds. Steph plans to play as long as LeBron and he's in his Prime now and the most conditioned athlete. He'll be here another 5-6 yrs.

  8. Get Jimmy Butler for one player and picks if Danny A is too stubborn. Win now.I grew up watching everyone laugh at the warriors. Win now while you can. Future is too random.

  9. They can’t afford Laurie and kuminga simultaneously so either talk to kuminga and extend him now for less, or if he wants too much, use him and not podz in the trade for Laurie and include a third team. Maybe the spurs and Utah and golden state?

  10. Player rotation during the '22-23 season was a big reason why the two-timeline failed. Except for Poole, the other young players did not get much playing time with the vets. They would get to play non-consequential minutes or if GSW would decide to sit their starters for entire games due to load management. Naturally, these youngsters would get blown off the court.
And the GSW coaches would use these as basis for the DNPs of Moody and Kuminga. If these young players as bench players were given the opportunity to play meaningful minutes with the vets, things would have turned out differently. Coach Kerr may have forgotten that during his stint in Chicago with the Bulls, the bench was always playing with at least Jordan or Pippen except when the game is already been decided.

  11. Steph has 2 all-NBA years left, max. Trading away our future for Lauri makes little sense. No single team has greater than 20% chance of winning it all going into the season, given the parity. We need to keep the team together. Don’t want to go into rebuild mode in 2026.

  12. Just bring in another all star to line up with Steph Curry then go be mediocre for the next 20 years like the bulls. Why wouldn’t u want to maximize on a top 5 player of all time your Club greatest. On for what Kuminga or even Pods & picks Joe Lacob must be mad but usually happens when team owners stay too long maybe it’s time for a new owner to push the narrative like a young once did.

  13. steve kerr lost 10-15 games alone by himself from bad decision making and playing podziemski over better players

  14. They should keep their picks and bet on their youth. Waste the rest of curry’s prime trying to build. look how good wiseman and Poole worked out.

  15. Dynasty is not repeatable. A lot of Warriors fans are in dillusion with their young players 😂

  16. GS just needs to start the season out with what they have. Forget about Lauri for now. Let the young guys get their minutes and see how they develop. I think it will up the players' value for when they do make some moves. Get towards the trade deadline during the season. More teams will wanna bite and make some moves.

  17. Playing time is associated with confidence. It's an uphill climb for a player's confidence when you're getting limited time or DNP's. JK and Moody would be playing great and then Kerr would pull them, put Klay in for seemingly no reason. The more Moody plays the more he'll realize his incredible potential! Also, why is there not a single word about Q. Post? When do we get a look?

  18. Good question from Charlie (about Draymond). He really didn't play that well until after he came back from his suspension. It's quite likely that the chemistry would be better without Draymond.

  19. It wasn't Kerr who "trusted" the young guys. So that's the problem. They were already on the cusp of being a great team. Kerr didn't have to go thru the trials with a 21 year old Steph and Klay.

  20. I don't think the "trust" factor had more impact than the randomness of life… They tryed to trade Curry by Bogut and only didn't happened because Bucks demand Elis instead. Also, Klay Thompson by Kevin Love trade only wasn't finished because some veterans lead by Richard Jefferson did huge pressure to keep Klay. That's the life. Nothing wrong with this. ===== EXAMPLE from other sports that you all cant jump to the next "=====". The Brawn GP Formula One Team, that only runs one season in 2009, had in hands a car that was terribly compromised – it had been designed around a Honda engine and gearbox, and the Mercedes setup seriously compromised it's handling. The only thing that they can do at that point was work over aerodynamics. In the first half of the season the aero benefits were so great that the compromises were irrelevant and the loss from poor weight distribution was none. Jenson Button won 6 of the 7 firsts races and won the championship with just two more podiums on next 10 races, finishing the others between 5th and 8th. Barrichello finish in 3rd overall with two wins, three second places and one third, what put Brown team 20 points ahead Red Bull to win Constructors Championship. If wasn't this huge problem before season starts, they probably wont win, even a single race. If they used Honda setup or if the car was originally designed for Mercedes setup, in both cases, the deflectors they created (and copied by the other teams, being ready to de used after 7-8 races) never would exist. At the end, as Joe Lacob (in realation to frachise value), Ross Brown bought the team for £1,00 at the end of 2008 to sell for £150 million at the end of 2009. =====

This roster (any roster since 2013-14, that weren´t the no roster season) is very ok. We just need to bring back the pick and roll with some post splits to balance small ball strategy, giving to defenses way more layers to think about than just put pressure in five players spread behind 3 point line rotating the ball as a hell to find a uncontested shots. Ballance we lose since Kevin Durant came, as he was the own ballance for defences: instead small ball with pick and roll & post splits, small ball with Kevin Durant. And by what we saw last season, TJD will be a unstoppable weapon doing screens and rolling. Btw, my first game was at 12yo, so I'm "covering" the team for 39 years 😅.

Let's improve Curry, Klay, Drey and Barnes as startes to Curry, Pod, Drey, Kuminga and TJD!

But, about this off season, I can resume some main points I noticed (and its my perception for sure, I'm not saying this is the true):

Big problems – They let the entire world know that:
1- Main goal was have US$ 0,00 luxury taxes.
2- Klay Thompson contract would not be renewed (and if wasn't clear, Klay came to help with it).
3- Chris Paul should be waived.
4- Wiggins was a MUST BE trade.
5- Even with 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, they still have wishes to build a contender team around Curry (just remember LeBron no deal last season).

    As result:
A- Klay Thompson, Chris Paul and Andrew Wiggins trade value = 0.
B- Because of (5), any team with a Top Player that can help the Warriors reach the goal to be a contender, easily would request our best young players with rookie contracts. Not one, but two or three.
C- Because of (B), one more time, the only way to replace them would be finding veterans that would accept minimum veterans deals.
D- Because of (C), with a main rotation roster smellling like a garbage time roster. To have any chance to win, start 5 players should play from 40 to 48 minutes, like New York Knicks guys did at the end of last season. And, of course, this only would be possible with another head coach.

One million dollars question: if Myers was the GM, topics from 1 to 5 would be fall in public domain before next season starts, not 6 months before last season ended?

  21. What people always forget about the Lacob booing is the context.

The Warriors had just recently had their most success in over a decade with the We Believe Warriors. That was dismantled by previous ownership when they shipped out Jason Richardson for Brandan Wright.

JRich was the heart and soul of the Dubs who has been there through thick and thin.

Then they let Baron Davis leave for the Clippers and did a knee-jerk Corey Maggette signing.

So when Monta got shipped out, the last remnants of the We Believe Squad along with Stephen Jackson….it was kind of a here we go again with our favorite players leaving (not even to mention the Moped drama)

I personally felt it was a great trade and was excited for Bogut and felt Curry was that dude….but when someone says "We Miss Monta"….of course the people are going to boo a still fresh wound.

Not the fanbases greatest moment, but it's a completely different fanbase nowadays anyway.
