Kerr is lucky he got the greatest shooter of all time to cover up for being a garbage coach. A team that struggles with playmaking has the best playmaker riding the bench: make it make sense.

I had always anticipated him being not in the regular Olympic rotation (just a seniority thing) but if it wasn’t clear that they kinda could use a better primary ball handler on that second unit, his minutes phase out would make a lot more sense

Like, team USA has a hole that Haliburton fills. If you’re not going to play him, why bring him along in the first place? He’ll get rest this summer after all which would be good for us next season, but it’s just confusing for team USA to embrace this specific issue their bench unit has while at the same time benching the PG best suited to help

  3. I swear any NBA team could win gold. Obviously they might not be all Americans but an actual team would have more success than whatever this is they’re running out there.

Realistically, this is why he made the team. He was OK with being phased out and just wanted the experience to learn from his peers.

You can’t convince me that an Ant/Hali/Bam/anybody/another warm body couldn’t run an up tempo scorched earth offense in the second and third quarter and be super successful. Especially after AD, LeBron, Embiid, and Tatum ground and pound in the 1st and 4th.

  6. I didn’t forget that there were people arguing with me that this team could beat the “redeem team” a few weeks ago

Kerr isn’t even playing LeBron very much. Heard he was averaging around 20 minutes a game.

  8. The most likely reason is due to lack of seniority and the power hierarchy with the Olympic veterans and future hall of famers. But – is there any chance that Steve Kerr is not playing Halliburton for personal reasons? I just cannot understand why Kerr would bench the best playmaker given that is the issue the team has with the current lineup.

Putting legends on one last Wheaties box is at least as important to USA Basketball as putting the best team together.

Meh. He’ll get his gold and get to hang out with his buddies in Paris drinking wine for a month and chilling while applying low key pressure on Ant to move to the real ‘polis. Not a bad way to spend the summer!
