Best of Bucks Free Agency and NBA Summer League (Hear District – Ep. 23)

This week on the Hear District podcast, Marques and Kris share their takeaways from NBA Summer League and highlight the Bucks players whose performances they found most encouraging. They also break down the exciting additions GM Jon Horst has made to the roster, including Delon Wright, Taurean Prince, and Gary Trent Jr., and share why these three players in particular will impact the team on both ends of the floor. The episode wraps with a discussion on reports of the WNBA’s media rights negotiations and how the league’s stars are ushering in a new era for women’s sports.

  1. How are we so lucky to have Bucks LEGEND Marques Johnson not only playing for our franchise, but calling our games AND putting out 🔥🔥🔥 podcasts??? Bucks fans so blessed 🙌

  2. I think we had a good off-season considering how restricted we were financially. I didn't mind Beasley but I don't feel like he was starter material though. Trent is definitely an upgrade, a better scorer, he might not be a huge upgrade defensively from Beasley, but he's bigger, taller, & lengthier. Delon Wright is a pretty good defender. Taurean Prince is a decent role player, Crowder is washed, so Prince fills in that role. Our rookie AJ Johnson looked decent in the Summer league, even though everyone was hating when we drafted him. This off-season is sort of like the off-season we had after we loss in the Bubble, a small revamp/rebuild. That off-season, we brought in Jrue, Portis, Bryn Forbes, DJ Augustin, Torrey Craig. I know we traded some of those guys, but those trades brought in PJ. I feel like we still have some trades up our sleeves, ever since Horst became our GM, he has always looked to improve the team before the trade deadline. Didn't always worked, but it worked when he acquired PJ & at least he tries.

I think this year might be a "make or break it" year for Beauchamp. Like Kris Johnson said, "a guy can go get 30-35pts, but he might not necessarily be the right fit for the team." Beauchamp has talent & has shown flashes, particularly on a weaker level only though, like Summer League, G-League, & Summer Pickup games like when he scored 82pts, but on a good team, he's having trouble finding his role. Andre Jackson for example, fits in way better, because he hustles & can play defense, he can easily fit in on any team. All Beauchamp can do is score, & not even on a consistent level, & defensively he's not that great. Might be time to use Beauchamp as trade bait. I think he can go on a weak team & have good games here & there, but I don't think he can fit into a team that's trying to win a chip. Most NBA players like Beauchamp probably grew up being the stars of their HS teams, & then they come into the NBA & can't fit in, because they only knew how to be the star, but they aren't elite enough to do that in the NBA. I think that's why College is important, it teaches you team ball & how to play within a role.

Honestly, if we can just stay healthy for the playoffs, we possibly could've had another Finals run these past 3 years. Khris was hurt in 2022, Giannis was hurt 2023 & 2024. Giannis needs to find a way to not get injured, he's been hurt the last 4 out of 5 Playoffs (luckily he came back in 2021 Finals). The only Playoffs he didn't get hurt in was 2022, but Khris got hurt. Even though Khris hasn't been healthy the past 2 regular seasons, he came back for both Playoffs & balled out. I just want to see our Big 3 healthy in the playoffs together, because that's a dangerous Big 3 offensively.
