Then the cluster or Magic Bird Wilt and Russell. Like any order of those 4 seems acceptable
Then the next cluster for me is Shaq, Timmy, Kobe, Olajuwon and Curry. So for me putting Kobe over Duncan or Duncan over Kobe isnt controversial.

This is becoming my least favorite topic, and it gets posted here over and over again.
They are both somewhere from 5-12, I don’t even care at this point if someone lists Duncan comically low. He won 5 championships for my favorite team. I went to the NBA Finals in person because of Tim Duncan. We won 70% of our games for 20 years. No media person or Redditor can ever take that away.
The 5 championships thing is true for Kobe fans as well, so who cares what anyone else thinks.

There’s not many players that have beat better teams than Tim Duncan. The west was blood bath in the late 90s-2000s and he carried it over to the 2010s and beat the heat who would’ve been a legitimate dynasty if not for the spurs.

Flip of the coin. Kobe has better H2H record in the playoffs. Accolades are almost identical. Stats are based on position. Guess you can make the argument that Duncan was THE guy from day one vs Kobe/Shaq but it’s not like Admiral, Parker, Ginobili were slouches.

As a Laker fan for over two decades, I’m perfectly okay with this. But the legend of Kobe? Top three all-time. Him, Jordan, and Bird always had the most ridiculous stories from the players that played with them.

I can’t say I’d rank Duncan OVER Kobe but it doesn’t surprise me if anyone else would.
Two different personalities on two different team cultures but they were both the best for their generation.
If you say Duncan is a pf then he’s probably top 2 at worst. I think it actually hurts him that he came in the league and put up 21/12/3 and 3 blocks as a rookie. He maintained it for about 12 years. Stellar on offense and defense and for all we know, was a great teammate.
He really was too steady and too reliable that he didn’t get the appreciation he deserved from regular fans.

I am a massive Kobe fan. I also love Tim Duncan. I think Kobe had a better career than Tim Duncan, but Duncan is an all time great and anyone arguing the opposite has a fair point. I’m sure there will be a reasonable discussion about this in the comments.

I don’t think this is even controversial. Duncan was clearly a better player , impacted winning more and was easier to build around. Way better teammate too. Kobe its close to 12/13 for me, Duncan is 6 in my list.
