[The Sun] Anonymous Summer League Lakers Player: “You could feel that there was no unity [between] this group of guys as Bronny was the main guy and the others didn’t feel that it was right, that he deserved that”

The attention he attracted was "very frustrating" for the players to see, and his alleged star treatment caused friction among the team, which went 0-5 to start the tournament, per a Lakers insider.

"That kind of tension didn’t help the group of players to build chemistry," said the source, who noted they have "nothing against" Bronny.

"And you could feel that there was no unity [between] this group of guys as Bronny was the main guy and the others didn’t feel that it was right, that he deserved that."

"And with dealing with Bronny’s attention and treatment, plenty of the other young guys that are trying to make the roster for next season couldn’t show their best side and show their A game."

"I ended up being very frustrated because I was never put in the best situation, or even put in some plays or game plans because they wanted Bronny to show his skills and shine," he said.

"If you talk to any other player that was part of the roster of the California Classic and the Summer League, most of them would tell you the same thing.

"The tensions were visible, and pretty much we were all thinking about the end of the Summer League to get out of here and focus on our next step in our careers."

  1. There was clear visible unity between the guys we care about, Traore, Bronny, Knecht, and Hinson lol

Everyone else was too busy pretending they were him and chucking up a lot of braindead level shit (some of which includes Hinson.. but he hit them so w/e)

  2. thy_armageddon

Hey man, normally these anonymity things are pretty obfuscating but they’re gonna find you, that ain’t big of a list to trace. Lol

  3. CoolGrandpa1932

The Sun is not a reliable source at all. They are well known for printing complete lies.

I can’t believe people are taking this at face value. The Sun is a trashy celeb tabloid that has a long history of just making shit up.

  4. thats definitely a fair sentiment, but it’s not even like Bronny took away that many shots from other players. he’d hardly shoot most of the initial games. not being able to show your A game on the court because Bronny is getting “attention” off the court, doesnt make too much sense imo

if i were that Lakers insider/summer league player, id be more frustrated at Blake Hinson for chucking up 3s whenever he touched the ball, for example

  5. StefonDiggsHS

look man on every summer league roster there’s a good like 6-8 guys who just have no chance at making the league lets be real here. Summer League has never been about those guys as much as the NBA tries to tell you.

  6. chickenripp

I can’t believe Dalton Knecht would say that.

  7. dizzymidget44

Bronny didn’t take any of the shots. And it’s summer league, what unity?

  8. Oh the lakers focused on getting their two draft picks looks instead of unsigned dudes from the G league? Shocking

  9. “Anonymous player” report from TheSun… right.

  10. KarrotMovies

The main guy was Knecht. Bronny didn’t take many shots. Maxwell Lewis was out there chucking like he was the main guy

  11. donttripmyG

Is that why max lewis never passed the ball?

  12. Unable_Diamond943

I’d argue Bronny brought more attention to their games than they did themselves. He got eyeballs in the stands. You had your chance to show.

  13. tldreddit-

whichever players felt that way are not ready for the league. if their egos cant handle it in summer league it only amplifies 100x when you make the roster and deal with “superstars” on your roster. you want the attention to change then change it with your play on the court.

  14. I guess someone found out they’re not making the preseason team

  15. Typhoid007

    Oh come the fuck on

It’s summer league, it exists only for player development. Developing Bronny and Knecht is the entire point. Every team showcases their draft picks, that’s the idea, winning is irrelevant.

The irony of writing an entire smear article about one player getting too much attention in the God damn summer league is hilarious

  16. Le4-6Mafia

Probably a Maxwell Lewis quote after clanking bricks in isolation for 2 weeks

  17. thenexttimebandit

You wanna be a pro? Show up and do your job. You should be focused on putting your best basketball on tape to make a roster. Being distracted by a nepo kid is high school crap. Bronny got a lot of PT that he may not have deserved but these dudes are morons if they let that impact their play. This isn’t a game, it’s their livelihood

  18. Oh wow the summer league team didn’t have cohesion over five games with little to no practice beforehand? Crazy but we should blame Bronny to be safe.

Bronny is going to play opening night, make history with pops, and then be banished to the nether regions of the G league so he can develop.

  19. Air_Enthusiast

We don’t have roster space, why would we try to develop someone who isn’t even guaranteed to be on the team

  20. Ill_Celery_7654

It was a team full of randoms to begin with. The main 4 guys were Knect, Bronny, Caselton, and Lewis.

  21. Lucieddreams

Bronny played well within the flow of the game and had a lot of games where, if anything, he would pass up shots and just try to be a connector. Even after he started playing well it’s not like he was hogging the ball and forcing up shots like Sean East, Blake Hinson, or Walmart Caruso

Very poor mentality from whoever this source is. Lots of questionable things here that Bronny didn’t have anything to do with. Total non-sequitor to try and blame someone or something else just because you didn’t play well or get the chances you thought you deserved. Most summer league players don’t get that chance regardless of who they’re playing with

  22. black-remy-buxapenty

Bro there’s no way someone watched those Lakers game and came out of thinking “man Bronny is the main guy!” Lmfao

  23. Kingkongcrapper

It’s summer league.  Half the guys out there are playing hero ball to show off their skills.  Who cares.

  24. RVAIsTheGreatest

The Sun is a shit rag, but the truth is that every one of these teams is going to feature the guys who they actually care about and that’s what the Lakers did. Not just Bronny.

If those players didn’t feel they could “show their best stuff” than they don’t understand their role. It isn’t to strut their stuff. It’s to show they can help a team.

  25. nick_flip

I can’t speak for the true intentions of the Lakers organization, but I would bet the goal for summer league was to develop their draft picks (including Bronny) as opposed to building a cohesive summer league team that would rack up wins.

Pushing Knecht and Bronny makes sense.

  26. Odd-Direction9452

Bronny sat two whole games and most of the offense was running through Knecht or Max Lewis lol.

If anything, Bronny brought more eyes onto everybody, as any prospect with hype would.

  27. TJStrawberry

There is no unity in summer league games. Most guys just try to get theirs for the most part.

  28. wallowsworld

I want everyone to remember this is “The Sun” we’re talking about so take this with a grain of salt

  29. MrAppleSpoink

Bronny wasn’t really a major part of the offence, and when he was he was certainly better than whoever the fuck said this.

If you watched our summer squad Bronny was pretty solidly our 3rd best player after Knecht and Castleton.

  30. Either this source is made up, or if I had to take a guess, the player was Lewis. Bronny, while yes, struggling in his first three SL games, was not given any star treatment as far as I could tell. The dude played in the system, passed to his teammates often, and at times was barely touching the ball. Lewis, on the other hand, was chucking away, thinking he was Kobe while hogging the ball. Also, what unity could there be on a summer league team when the players are together for a few weeks, and that’s it?

  31. Due_Parfait_2013

I watched one game only. Bronny actually scored like 13 on 5-10 shooting despite his teammates REFUSING to pass him the ball. 😂 The freeze out jumped off the screen to me… guys were playing worse basketball to avoid swinging it to him.

  32. Lazy-Appearance-9358

It’s summer league, who gives fuck?

  33. This is how most guys feel in summer league. You don’t really have a chance unless they want you to have a chance.

  34. SnakeySnipes

This is the softest shot I’ve ever read. Sounds like excuses

  35. radikraze

Yeah nah, Bronny was definitely not the “main guy” in those games lol

  36. Sounds like players making excuses for being ass. Never going to make the league with that mindset.

  37. IllllIllIllIllIllll

Players used to being “the guy” their entire life are getting a dose of reality.

  38. ChrisJensen8

I am the anonymous player in question here.

  39. Peanutsonfire

Fuck anonymous “sources” say that shit with yo chest so LeDaddy can make sure you don’t ever play in the league again 😂

  40. TarkovBirdman

Boy are they going to hate playing with his dad

  41. k1ngkoala

This is a complete lie. Bronny took 10 shots a game. Who was he taking away from? And in what way was he the main guy?

  42. beforeitcloy

Reality: 99% of summer league guys without guaranteed contracts won’t make the team anyway. Chemistry is irrelevant, since the W/L don’t matter and the team will never play together again. All these guys did was prove they aren’t mature enough to be role players, which is the best a non-guaranteed SL player should hope for anyway.

Stand out on by playing defense if the offense is highlighting someone else. You’re not gonna take the ball out of Lebron and AD’s hands on the big team either.

  43. Goat_Status_5000

I dont believe this. Anonymous, my ass.

  44. Wait until LeBron gets back from Olympic duty. He’s going to go scorch earth until he finds that source, watch.
