The New York Knicks continue to seek an upgrade at the backup center position. However, NY has options set in case it’s unable to trade for a quality backup. One of those options would be to load up on assets to use for the February trade deadline to add another impactful player. Achiuwa fits perfectly for that trade piece NY can use during the deadline, allowing them to make an upgrade without sacrificing their core players. But in order for the Knicks to do this, they will have to intentionally pay Precious Achiuwa a much higher salary than expected… Troy Mahabir breaks all of this down!

They can count 5 and a half million dollars because of a previous trade. If they use that Acchua at 11 million , Sims , Kolak after Aug 6 , and Toppin or Diop ( after Sept 9), they can trade for Atlanta's center. They brought in a good big man assistant coach to work with Sims , or the 2 promising centers in the G league .
Wondering if Sims would do better as a 4. And I still think Skapintsev is a diamond in the rough. Maybe Mark Bryant can make him shine.

1. If true, shows how much players trust the FO. Kinda nice how Precious would be a knick asset even though he’s a FA.
2. Sims was unplayable last playoffs. Precious did well when called upon. Getting Precious as the backup 5 should be good enough for now and forcing Thibs to play small might make him experiment with the death lineup.

Why does a team want a overpaid Precious instead of signing him now
No we need to Sign and trade him for a larger contract by the Knicks so if he offers teams then we can propose a sign and trade
