Top lads, went out there and put their best foot forward.
Folks seriously underrate South Sudan. They’ve got a legit roster who can run up and down the floor with anyone.
Was fun to watch.
South Sudan can definitely beat any team except the favourites. Would love to see them play Canada with their size
It’s just fun to root for this group, really tough and hard working bunch. I hope they can reach the medal rounds
Second half really settled the score.
This was probably mentioned before, and I did make athread when he signed (for a short time) with the Knicks but:
Nuni Omot, the South Sudan player is the person from this: [meme](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DtsaH14VsAAl2oK.jpg)
I made a thread about his life last season and i try linking the thread but the mf automod keeps deleting it ffs :@
tl;dr – the meme is real, his father stayed back in the country while he fled the war with his mom, and this was the first time (the meme) he saw his dad since. And now he represents the country he had to flee due to war on the biggest stage. What a story
The Fiba box score lacks infos. It doesn’t even have how many 3 field goals each team made, just the percentage.
If they somehow keep up with team USA and don’t get demolished, they could qualify as the 3 seed!
I quickly did the math, by my estimates S. Sudan is basically qualified to the second round on account of 2/3 third place teams to qualify to the next round and one of the groups have Japan surrounded by monsters.
Love those guys
I totally missed that Omot played two years for Baylor. That’s crazy to me, considering all the players Scott Drew has had in the last 10-15 years.
Impressive thing about South Sudan is they are missing lots of decent player as well, including NBA, former NBA, and fringe NBA guys.
South Sudan is a good team to watch out for, they almost beat team USA on tune up game so they get some confident on that
I’m rooting for them over USA. These guys are the definition of dad strength if dad strength was a basketball team.
South Sudan vision 6’9″
They gotta lose for my agenda but I hope they take some hardware home w them, genuinely exciting to watch.
This is a bit off-topic, but why does Puerto Rico have their own Olympic basketball team? Wouldn’t they play for the USA?
lets goooo
