While Lively had a great rookie season, and showed his ability to be a good playmaker in the short roll, the next evolution of his game will be scoring when he’s not directly under the basket. Thankfully, with Klay’s gravity, he should get more opportunities to score on these rolls, which will benefit his development. While a pick-and-pop game would be fun to see, I wouldn’t get too excited because they likely won’t run that many. Baby steps.
Klay’s always been a pretty underrated playmaker. He’s very skilled in throwing passes coming off off-ball screens, and with the rim-running rookie Trayce-Jackson Davis he was able to rack up some nice assists. Now imagine Lively or Gafford on these rolls. Someone is getting murdered next year lol.

I hope it’s the other way around. Make teams try and beat our PnR that was so good in the playoffs and get Klay some “Welcome to the Team” games.

They talked about that on Locked on Mavs today. Klay is at his best with rim running athletic big on the floor. He’s always gonna have that on Mavs with Lively and Gafford. Our offense is gonna be bonkers and everyone is gonna get the best out of everyone.

Good montage well done. Our offense got so much dimension now its really tough to counter it. I really hope Mavs can hire good offensive coach to help Kidd advance and extract maximum value. We had some awful stretches of bad constructed offense last year, now we have more reliable/talented pieces.
When looked at big picture, Mavs slowly adding more elements to offense rather than only running Luka-centric offense for years. After Kyrie added, it shifted slowly to %70 Luka-centric %30 Kyrie adjusted fast paced. I am guessing this year Kidd will count on high iq of our players to choose on that moment how to attack.
Having always 2-4 good decision makers from different positions on the court with added knowledge of Kidd not messing everything like Carlise etc. doing, we are going to see a lot of quick motion plays after traditional pnr.
