[Katz] Precious Achiuwa has waived his Bird veto, a league source says. Normally, a player of Achiuwa’s type who re-signs on a one-year contract receives the right to veto any deal. But since Achiuwa waived his, he CAN be traded without the ability to veto the deal.

Well, maybe there is a trade happening after all?

Hey remember when the old Knicks front office seemingly accidentally gave Ron Baker a de facto no trade clause because they were dumb?

It’s good but at this point his salary is so low it would have to be combined with someone else ( I.e. Deuce) to bring back a meaningful player. We still have the MLE it wil be interesting to see if we use that

Can anyone explain why Precious to agree to this? How might it benefit him?

Edit: thanks for the responses. I guess I am just surprised that the market was so soft for Precious after such a solid post-trade season.

Knicks fo is rly smart. Signing precious to more money was a great call anyway to be able to include the salary in a trade down the line if needed, the fact that precious can’t veto now and he’s making more money it’s a complete win win on both sides

Good deal. They give him some more cash, we get the option to trade him if a deal comes along.

Why would Achiuwa give up that right?

Precious was intentionally paid over market value and that’s why he agreed to this.

Because it allows the Knicks leeway to trade for an upgrade later in the season. Precious gets paid more, Knicks get flexibility – win win.
