Jalen Brunson has already re-signed with the Knicks on one of the best bargain contracts in NBA history. OG Anunoby re-signed with the Knicks before free agency even began. Reports already indicate that newest Knick Mikal Bridges, when it’s time, will accept less to stay with NY. With all of that in order, all of the focus shifts to Julius Randle and his contract extension. With NY recently re-signing Precious Achiuwa and addressing the backup center position, fans are now anxiously awaiting news of if Randle will re-sign. According to an NBA Insider, he reports that the thinking behind Randle’s extension for both sides hasn’t changed. You know Troy, this has been on my mind for the longest after all the moves they already made. The haters want him traded, but I think a healthy and onboard JR will boost this teams chances of a better post season to come in the coming season. Now the next thing that is still unsettled is the backup center they desperately need. Good post and keep on giving us some news on our beloved NY Knicks, let's go NY!

I think we match up well with Boston with this roster. The gap at center could be offset by our bench which I think is stronger.

Great video, but I don’t see the Knicks waiting to the off season to either sign Randal or trade em. No reason to risk letting him walk for nothing in free agency. I see him getting back to that stretch of 12-1 that we had going and him maybe taking a 4/160 type deal. Not full max

The Knicks will not allow Randle to hit UFA; everything points towards some sort of extension, or trade by the deadline.
Respectfully, insiders are just pr people for the team. They are putting out a narrative the team wants put out. They aren't leaking inside information. OK, cool, a contract extension isn't at the forefront…signings are public knowledge. We'd know by 8/3 that the Knicks didn't immediately sign Randle. The question…what would be actual news…is an explanation of WHY Randle isn't getting extended immediately?
Trying to get a backup big is not a reason to not extend Randle. Randle is locked in for next season. His money has nothing to do with Kevon Looney's, Precious', or Walker Kessler's. Waiting and seeing how he meshes is not a reason to not sign Randle. If he meshes, he could opt out and leave for nothing. You want to have him signed (if you plan to keep him and/or think other teams would want him).
I don't think anything happens with Randle until Lauri's final destination is worked out. Markannan is a better player who plays a similar role. Brandon Ingram probably has more trade value than Randle, too. Randle needs another team that really wants him to justify a big extension. OG got paid because other teams wanted him. iHart got paid because other teams wanted him. I don't think that team exists…hence no extension for Randle.

If randle was smart, he would wait to see if they get off to a good run during the season. He can ask for much more if they're killing it compared to what he could justify now. Just makes buisness sense for him to not talk extension right now
