you can argue offensively they’re about at the same level due to their elite shooting
but defensively is where klay would pull well ahead of mullin
as klay at his prime defensively was the top 2 way shooting guard in the NBA for probably 5 or 6 seasons before his two career altering lower leg injuries in 2019 and 2020

I think it’s pretty apples and oranges – Klay was maybe the best 3 and D guy ever until he got hurt. Like an elite, elite roll player.
Mullin was an all around star. I think Mullin would make a bad team much better than Klay would have. But, I think swapping Klay for Mullin would have made the Curry Warriors worse.

Pre-Injury Klay was incredible.
jsanchez030
mullin a better scorer, creator and passer but klay is a top 3 (2 in my opinion) 3 point shooter of all time and an all nba defender. plus 4 rings and a valuable part of each chip. edge goes to klay in my opinion

I don’t think there’s much question whether Klay will make the Hall of Fame in a decade or so.
sanjuro_kurosawa
Mullin by a wide margin. He was the best player on Warriors for a decade, which means opponent defenses key on him. Klay is very good of course, but would have have thrived as the primary scoring option with Curry or KD as teammates?

Love Klay, but Chris by a wide margin

Mullin was really incredible. A shame he couldn’t have been on a championship team.

Klay could have had a much bigger role on a different team putting up better numbers. He chose to stay in this role for the opportunity to win. I would have loved to see him as number one option somewhere else but he got paid AND will 4 chips. Can’t really beat the career he’s had.
Remarkable-Cup-6029
Mullin a better offensive option but Klay scaled so we’ll with other stars and his two way contribution at his peak was something else. That gives him the slight edge

You didn’t list defensive stats… Klay in a landslide

Chris Mullin is my favorite Warriors all-time. But that 3pt% for Klay is lovely. 😍
Dishavingfun
Mullin better player
Klay more valuable for this team given his pre injury ability to defend perimeter and help keep target off Steph.
RustyShackleford925
Prime Klay was one of those rare players where you can plug him into virtually any starting 5 and he’d fit right in. Love Mully but can we say the same for him?
kayoboomin
Mullin is the well rounded offensive player but Klay is the better shooter and defender.
Depends what you value more imo I’d take Klay for the defense

We will never know how good Klay would be as a first option, and even then his output when needed seems similar to Mullin. Klay was definitely the better defender and probably would never be a playmaker (except with tjd) but as long as I have a smaller PG, klay is always my pick

They played different roles so it’s really hard to compare.

Klay is better, no contest, if the goal is winning basketball games. Looking at offensive and defensive contributions, it’s not a question.

For you youngsters. It’s Mullin. Way better basketball IQ and passing.
People need to list how many years they’ve been following the warriors when answering. I’m at 30+

Pre-injury Klay is a force!
IMHO – I would have to go with Klay. But Mullin played against the best BB Generation with MJ, Bird, Magic, etc… Just look at the original “Dream Team” lineup. “All guilty!”
panzerflex
Klays numbers would be better if he was on worse teams like mullin and if he didn’t get hurt. Klay is better
OaklandWarrior1
If I’m starting a team from scratch and Klay and Mullin on the board I’m taking Mullin.
kobeflip
The overall stats for Mullin cover nearly 200 more games on the tail end of his run. To fairly compare those with Klay, you’d want to project out what you’d see from his next 200 games. Else you might as well compare single season of player A versus lifetime of player B. FActor this in, and I think the top half easily goes to CM.
As for Championships, that’s as much a statement on team management and composition as anything.

I think Mullin would average about 30 in his prime if he played during Klay’s time, so I gotta say him. Although Klay definitely has a way better resume

Mullin was part of the original dream team.
Mullin better first option.
