We got thoroughly outcoached. France came prepared to play from the start. Their coach had the balls to bench one of his stars because the matchup was bad, while our coach decided to keep playing Murray despite his struggles literally all tournament.
Sloppy and unfocused game. If Brooks was his usual fiba self we might’ve had enough offence to win that. The front court being weak obviously killed us as well and that’s where missing size with Edey obviously hurts.

Embarrassing loss, honestly. Team played with little urgency until late. No offensive sets, just mindlessly running around on a ton of possessions. Little to no off ball movement. For a ton of NBA talent on this roster it really felt like they let the moment and crowd get to them.
That being said, the officiating was disgusting too. Their players are two hand shoving ours with no calls and somehow getting ticky tacky shit on the other end. Was a bit better the second half but still ridiculous.

You play Jamal heavy minutes where he’s the lead guard when he’s been ass all tourney?? RJ and Nembhard get pushed to the side. No offensive flow if Shai was being guarded. So France fouled us 24 times, Canada shoots 25 free throws. Canada fouls France 26 times, they shoot 42 free throws. We got called for shit so soft at the start we can hardly even play defence the whole game.
Once that’s addressed go ahead and talk about Jamal or Dillon or the lack of bigs. France are a bunch of cheating ass frauds. I would be fine with losing fairly but that wasn’t a fair game

But ultimately we just got cooked down low and Murray was not good.

Terrible performance from the coaching staff. Absolutely disastrous start where we basically did nothing but shoot contested threes and committed stupid turnovers. I don’t even know what our gamelan was supposed to be. And it was absolute lunacy to play Jamal Murray 24 minutes when he sucked all tournament long. Gobert played 4 minutes—the French coaching staff made the decision ours clearly wasn’t willing to.
Our lack of size definitely hurt us against France, but we had the talent to overcome it. Shame we’re going home without a medal from what should have been a very winnable game.
