Wiggins’ Redemption Arc: Can Stackhouse unleash Two-Way Wiggs?

Hey Warriors fam,

Just wanted to open up a discussion of my hopes for a 2way Wiggins consistent comeback next season. I know there's been some talk by Stay and his camp that he's primed to prove himself this season.

But I also wanted to highlight contributing factors to that comeback if it does happen.

*The exit of Klay being an obvious one, since he wouldn't have to defer to Klay's shots anymore, we might see more looks for Wiggs. But there's also the signing of Jerry Stackhouse.

*Stackhouse had mentioned in a that recent interview with him about his hiring that he believes his ability to develop Golden State's wing players was a key reason behind his hiring. Specifically referring to Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody and Andrew Wiggins. "Saying That’s the position I played. I’ve sat in that seat. I’ve been there. I understand what they’re going through, from a young guy looking for a contract to a guy whose game is transitioning as you get older."

So considering his and Draymond's plans to collaborate in fixing the team defense and working on individual defense for everyone to have basic defensive standards like getting a hand up always etc. I think he will benefit greatly from that coaching.

*And to top off the Stackhouse and Wiggins connection. I found this old article

https://hoopshype.com/2018/09/27/stephen-jackson-andrew-wiggins-jerry-stackhouse-feud-rumors/

*About how Jerry Stackhouse mediated beef between Stephen Jackson, Andrew Wiggins back in 2018. The part that interested me was this "Jackson originally posted an Instagram alluding to Stackhouse’s involvement and was asked to clarify what happened (via Pull Up):

Jackson explained to McCollum that he “listens to his big homies” when they speak. He knew Stackhouse is close with Andrew’s father Mitchell Wiggins because they are both from North Carolina.

Nick Wiggins was on the roster for Toronto’s G League team, Raptors 905, when Stackhouse was an assistant for the Raptors, where they may have had a connection. Stackhouse became the head coach for Raptors 905 just one season after Wiggins was cut from the roster.

Stackhouse provided Jackson with Andrew’s phone number, but the ESPN analyst never reached out. He said he would let Stackhouse handle it, but also said he would clarify his point to Wiggins if he does ever happen to meet the Minnesota wing."

*This shows that Stackhouse and Wiggins go way back, so there's reason to believe that he will be a good influence on Wiggins being in his ear as a coach this upcoming season. Same for Moody and Kuminga.

*What're your thoughts on Wiggins potential this season? And do you think Stackhouse's presence will be a game changer?

  1. He was back to being two-way Wiggs the second half of last season, the fanbase just didn’t care to notice, or evaluate him objectively, after they wrote him off 2 weeks into the season.

I don’t think it’s in his wheelhouse to be the #2 scoring option. We need a Kuminga breakout on both offense and defense to be a legitimate playoff team.

Personally I think it comes down to draymond more then Wiggins though that’s just me

We need to know if Wiggins is playing just for the money or something more than that…

Because right now it seems like he played well in 2022 just to secure the money… if he is, we need to ship his ass in February for a legit player.

Anyone that stays on his ass will get something out of Wiggins. Dude always tried when it matters. I just hope the personal stuff is out of the way

  7. Nope the only way 2 Way Wigs is coming back is if it’s a contract year

This is actually really interesting and something I had no idea about as a newer fan, thanks for bringing this to light. I’m always rootin for Wiggs

I suspect consistent medication is what will unleash Wiggs more than coaching. Wish all the best for the guy, but seems like he wants some SSRIs
