I think whats being missed with Mathurin and “potential” conversations is that the potential odds of players with allstar/star upside usually take another step in their 3rd year …some of that 3rd year jump potential comes into question on how he plays in training camp and preseason, which could bring questions on whether he should still be on a bench or not but will agree it is make or break when it comes to his improvements. Same can obviously also be said for Nembhard in terms of making a jump after his playoff flashes now coming into his 3rd year.
IJax is still a foul machine so I see Wiseman getting good minutes on nights where the fouls arrive quickly for IJax.
What Benn needs to do to start is rebound better – I think he has potential to be one of the best on the team. He needs to defend better (point of attack and screen navigation) and shoot consistently. That’s a tough a lot to ask, although the skills for all those things are there. He also brings a toughness to this team, that other guys just don’t have.
If he can’t improve on those things, he’s going to have to be out microwave guy. A bit in the Jamal Crawford mold. Our 6th man. If he can’t accept that, as much as it sucks – he will be gone.
If they dont end up being A perennial eastern conference finals team that doesnt literally at all undermine what they accomplished this past post season.
Opposing fan bases can speculate all they want about if Giannis played they wouldnt have won or if OG didnt get hurt.
They were 4-1 against Milwaukee WITH Giannis during the regular season. And in LOTS of ways developing the mindset of A team that is favored to win opposed to an underdog can be difficult.
Playing as an underdog with nothing to lose opposed to being favored and predicted to win is challenging for A young team.
Because if you win no one cares because you were favored and a starter was missing on an opposing team, if you lose the entire nba fan base mocks and ridicules you for losing without an opposing teams star player.
They just needed to detatch themselves from all that hoopla. Literally every player in the NBA has talent. They EARNED that eastern conference finals appearance. Won game 7 AT New York and literally the entire sports world picked the knicks to win it.
So if Pacers dont end up making another eastern conference finals appearance next season that doesnt undermine what they just accomplished literally at all. Damn near the entire team had never played one minute of playoff basketball before. They EARNED it
The olympic experience has taught Tyrese why Jalen Smith left
I dont know if its right but i think mathurin's growth is the x factor. Everybody experience the conference finals except for mathurin.
Experience of nembhard at the olympics will also be a key factor. Is it really necessary for him to be with tyrese at all times?or is it better for him to lead the 2nd unit?
Nesmith, i still believe he can still be better offensively.
I also believe jackson can be servicable as the 2nd big man
Someone should've corrected this guy when he kept saying Jarace been in league for 2 years already and it's so weird he's not played more. He was a ROOKIE last year, facts Aussie, facts.
The other guy is talking like Wiseman is a bum. He's never really had a chance to develop. Wiseman is really good….The pacers know what they are doing.
Interesting unbiased take on Nembhard. My unpopular opinion is that he should be the point guard for the second unit and let Math be the starting 2.
