Lance Thomas was our last captain?!

“Brunson quickly became one of the team's leaders after arriving in 2022 and on Tuesday was selected as the 36th captain in franchise history. The Knicks hadn't had one since Lance Thomas in the 2018-19 season.”

*We had Lance, we had Courtney, it was rough shit*

  2. Not surprising, Lance was the original Taj Gibson during those dark Knicks days. I still remember when he clamped up Giannis a few years back.

Since 1891, the Yankees have had 16 captains. Some franchises have been very selective. Of course after Lou Gehrig died, it would be 60 years before Thurmon Munson became captain. The Knicks probably could’ve been a little more selective with some of their selections.

Rockin a Lance Thomas jersey nowadays would be kinda hard ngl

He was the longest tenured Knick at the time, KP was just getting the keys at that point.

They talked about this on the Kay show, but Michael referred to him as the guy with the “crazy eyes” so i think he was remembering the wrong Thomas, who also happened to be captain, and coincidentally had crazy eyes 😆

How do you not have captain(s) every single year?! Multiple. Not having one kind of makes me feel like it’s an unnecessary thing for the team. Or a pat on the back. Blue ribbon for captain.

It’s actually kind of interesting how if you look at the list there was a period where the Knicks had multiple captains at a time, whether they provided any leadership or not, and then we just had no captains for 5 years.

Steve Francis, Eddy Curry, Chris Duhon, Jamal Crawford, Malik Rose, Raymond Felton, David Lee, and Kurt Thomas? Malik Rose and Kurt Thomas were respected vets at some point, but a lot of the rest were just random players who were good at some point even if they were young and/or never led the team anywhere. Duhon and Felton can only be explained by the PG = leader bias. Then I’m not going to trash them but I don’t think of Stephon Marbury and Carmelo Anthony as leaders despite being the best players on solid teams.

I remember people wanted Kemba to be a captain before he even had his first game lol
