The Lauri contract is not an overpay at all. Percentage of team cap is what to look at not $$$ amount. His contract will be so small compared to what players are signing over the next 5 years due to the new tv rights deals.
I'll never agree with tanking on purpose. Sorry but I think you have to coach your players to win no matter where/whether they were drafted. You can live with the result as long as you've coached them right and they're playing like they want to win.
The three years after Stockton/Malone are the model I point to. I think those years mark a master class both from the office staff in team building and in coaching by Jerry Sloan. They missed the playoffs all three years, but won 40+ games in two of those years and only won 26 games because guys like Carlos Boozer were injured. But those teams never stopped playing hard and Jerry got a lot out of a lot of guys the rest of the league undervalued. They were fun to watch because they never played like they were tanking even when they lost 56 games. Build the right culture. We've got a great young coach and let him teach guys to play the right way. Tanking on purpose doesn't do that.
Lauri new contract puts him as the 2nd biggest contract of the team in the future. If he is the best player on your team in the future for the next 4 years. Are they better than OKC, Denver, Minnesota, phoenix, Dallas, New Orleans, lakers, or Sacramento. You guys will be competing for the playin. You guys need to tank to get someone who will be better than Lauri. He will be 33 yrs when he finish his contract. Timeline is off. Should have traded him for younger players

Off topic, Flip hasn’t signed yet, how unusual is that by now? Collier and Williams signed in early July from what I read. I think only 10 players haven’t signed.
The Jazz don’t need team wins. They need individual wins for the young core.
Hard to create a winning culture when you need Ls. Need to have the young guys get individuals wins (i.e. guarding well, hitting their shots and improving).
I feel that if they focus on the small picture they can collect Ls and still grow, mature, improve without killing the winning culture that has been cultivated for decades.
The Suns & Lakers are old and in 2 years are screwed with how little assets they have, NO doesn't scare me cause Zion is never healthy. The other team's should still be good, but who knows. Lauri is still young and will still be in the prime of his career at the end of this deal. The Jazz have plenty of picks and young guy's, they need good players which Lauri is, which makes this deal a no brainer to me.
The contract is not front loaded. According to spotract and also from what I heard on ESPN he gets the raise this year and then $46,394,100 then $46,113,154 then $49,824,681 and finally $53,536,209. Technically the percentage of the cap (projected) Decreases from 30% to 26%. But it’s not front loaded like Clarkson’s was.
Problem will be teams resting against us. Part of why we had such good starts the last two years.

The problem with this guy‘s logic in what he says, there’s a lot of maybes and hopefully that came out of his mouth. That doesn’t make me feel good at all. Honestly, I think they got the wrong people running this organization and these media people need to stop being yes men to the jazz.
Everyone is so sure we can still lose enough to get a top 5 pick by just playing the young guys. What in the last two years makes us think Hardy will play the young guys over Sexton, Collins, and Clarkson? If we dont trade Sexton and waive at least one of Collins and Clarkson, history points to us losing out on a top 5 pick in the next draft (unless we just get lucky in the lottery).

I will never understand why/how Jordan Clarkson wasnt traded earlier in same timing as Don and Royce. Feels like that was the only Ryan Smith mistake so far and never talks about it. Now Clarkson is untradeable.
