The only thing I learned this Olympics is that I am an Olympic level breakdancer.
On Saturday, the Olympic men’s high jump concluded. The USA’s Shelby McEwan and New Zealand’s Hammish Kerr shocked the field by being the only two athletes to successfully jump the 2.36 meter bar. After failing at a higher height, the athletes were given a choice: Share the gold medal or keep jumping until a winner is declared. After moving the bar down a couple of times, the Kiwi jumper cleared the final height, while the American did not. McEwan was sent home with a silver medal.
If McEwan had decided to share the gold with Kerr, the USA would’ve bested the Chinese team in gold medals. Instead, there is a tie. Dang it.
TL;DR My weekend was ruined by the hubris of a Mississippian.
