Team USA officials to give Kevin Durant a provisional yes for the 2028 Olympics

Kevin Durant's status for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles is uncertain, although the U.S. men's national team is reportedly interested in his return.
"I would not rule out KD playing, and I talked with Team USA officials, and they would give him a provisional yes right now," ESPN's Brian Windhorst revealed during Monday's episode of The Hoop Collective (49:50 mark).

  1. If he’s still healthy, he should be a force as a shooter.

Would love for Durant to be on the roster but he still needs to be a good player as opposed to Diana Taursi. The rest of the world is getting too good for sentimental picks

If him and steph could be at that level where bron was playing at 39-40 why not play off the bench.

  4. HokageEzio

39 year old KD putting up Diana Taurasi numbers on our way to another gold

  5. Quote implies something different than the title implies.

  6. Him and Lebron gonna bring home another gold.

  7. Saucy_Totchie

Kevin Durant said the plan is to keep playing until the wheels fall off.

5x Gold Medalist. make it happen

“We will gladly accept this version of KD on the 2028 team”

My very speculative 2028 Team USA starting lineup:

    Haliburton

    Ant

    Booker

    Tatum

    Bam

  11. onamonapizza

I wonder if they will leave off Clark Caitlin to make room for Durant.

  12. mercfan3

He’s gonna do for Booker, what Booker did for him (and Lebron and Steph)

  13. cheneyeagle

Bring him back for his leadership. We will need it. And he’s a long shooter. He could probably still help

I knew it. He wants that 5th gold like he’s Mijain Lopez. You can tell he loves the Olympics. Also I bet it’s the same thing for Simone Biles and Katie Ledecky. 5 golds at 5 different olympics is what a lot of people will be chasing.

Dude is 7 feet and a great shooter. Feel like that will age well.

  16. What I’m getting from this article is KD might be interested in playing in the next Olympics and Team USA might be interested in having him (depending on how good he is).

  17. this_place_stinks

He should push for this. This can be his basketball “thing”.

He’s one of the best players ever but has had the unfortunate luck to always be overshadowed. He got his low value rings but those are whatever.

Winning 5 golds can go a long way in immortalizing him to the degree Lebron and Steph will be

  18. beamerBoy3

Can’t wait till 2040 when Steph and lebron come out of the old folks home for 1 more gold

  19. Objective_Celery_509

He will be Lebron’s age then, so it’s feasible.

  20. realfakejames

KD would be 39 years old lmao Steph would be 40 and already said he won’t play in another Olympics, he knows he’d be too old, I love KD but do we think he’s going to be pulling a Lebron and still playing at a high level when he’s almost 40? I would love to see it but I don’t expect it, especially with his injury history

This would also be two years after his current contract ends, we don’t even know if he wants to play until 2028

  21. DEEZNUTZBOIS

He will never retire until he is physically incapable of playing

  22. darren_meier

I mean, on the one hand Durant is gonna be real old in 2028. But on the other hand, Carmelo just kept playing in the Olympics waaaaaaay after his prime ended so… I’m totally cool with KD playing in 2028 if he chooses.

  23. aghashayan

If the Cuban wrestler retires and does not wrestle at age 45, he could tie him for 5 golds in a row.

  24. myglue13

we need these guys in the 3v3 instead of jimmer and his group

  25. Lopsided_Mix2243

This post alone makes me sad thinking the majority knows kd doesn’t have 4 years left… my era is truly done man

  26. Existing-Stranger632

We will never see a team like the one we saw in these Olympics. Their is no way all of these guys are still playing in 4 years.

  27. petewondrstone

They also told Jayson Tatum that he should retire from the NBA.

  28. matthitsthetrails

I’m convinced even a 40 year old kd can easily give you 20pts

  29. TamilCholan

I already knew this. mofo loves basketball too much.

Another gold in 2028? Dbook Ant Tatum ain’t gonna cut it. KD basically won them 2020 Gold.

KD is Olympics GOAT. Not LeBron not Mj.

  30. oxodoboxo

Even a 40 year old KD coming off the bench is scary hours.

  31. PARDON_howdoyoudo

The way he was moving on D was crazy in the Serbia game. Looks fully healthy like he can go 4 more years
