In Serbia, this became a tradition almost thirty years ago, after the basketball team won the European championship in 1995. Whenever a sports team wins a European or a World cup medal they get to go on the balcony and have their hour of celebration with the people. It also expanded to every medal winner in the Olympics and to some other big sport success stories like when Novak Djoković won his first Wimbledon and simultaneously became world number 1 in 2011.
So far, the balcony was graced by both men and women basketball teams, men and women volleyball teams, men waterpolo team, men handball team and many other Olympians that won their medals in athletics, shooting, swimming, martial arts etc.

Hopefully we can see Jokic at Eurobasket2025 being held at Latvia,Finland,Poland and Cyprus. Ever since 2002 Serbia never won the last match of the late stages of tournaments if they reach it, too many silvers and few 4th places. With bronze at this Olympics we broke that barrier finally.

Serbia is what I hope my parents country the philippines be with sports. They celebrate all sports with passion and love. In the Philippines it’s just focus on basketball and beauty pageants lol.
There isn’t rivalry or people downplaying a sport when they achieve something.
Even in America there is rivalry with basketball or NFL fans. If soccer (football) gets success like the WC I feel Anerica won’t have the same passion other countries do.
I fele Serbia can be a country that can field top teams in baskatball and football even with their population size.
Football has a decent history though recently it hasn’t been the best, but you still have guys like Mitrovic and savic who are quality players and a roster who play at respectable clubs around Europe.
I hope partisans in euroleague, Serbia wins at least one Eurobasket, WC, or Olympic gold with Jokić, and football team makes a run in the euros or World Cup.
I watched the game against Slovenia when Jović tied at the end and it was crazy limbs when he scored.
That’s why I laugh at KD being insecure and attacking fans for loving Jokić and Serbia.
