    lol love the bluntness

He’s basically an Olympic lock if he’s still playing at a high level, he doesn’t need the extra mileage of the FIBA World Cup.

  2. good news, olympics have just 12 countries, FIBA world cup have a lot more countries, Slovenia, croatia, lithuania are out of world cup but some boring teams were playing. And USA likes to play role players like derrick white, cam johnson, etc so usa dont win this, and its very competitive the worrld cup

Ant could use some time off. He’s played a lot of basketball in a short career so far. Ant is tied with Darius Garland at 2nd in minutes played for the 2019 draft class at 10,392 minutes.

Except Ant was drafted in 2020, that doesn’t include playoffs, and obviously not his FIBA commitments.

Go ahead and take a a summer off, Ant.

Do other countries think the Olympics is more prestigious than the FIBA World Cup?

It’s clearly more important in the US. But the World Cup could catch up, just like it did in women’s soccer.

I don’t think anyone considers the Olympics more important than the Women’s World Cup, but it used to be here in the US.

World Cup team should be for the young guys who need FIBA international experience. They need to send Chet

  6. background_action92

Your loss then. Spo will call up another guy

  7. Mr_E_Nigma_Solver

Somewhere Noah lyles punching the air in celebration right now.

  8. larrylegend1990

Interesting that in Soccer/Futbol, Fifa World cup is so much more important than the Olympics. But in basketball, the Olympics are more important

  9. Players like Tatum, Bam, Ant and Booker are locks for ’28 if they wanna be part of that team. Almost everyone else of the new gen will need to “tryout” in the ’27 World Cup

  10. IMovedYourCheese

Zero incentive for any superstar player to play the FIBA World Cup when Olympics gets all the eyeballs and glory. Make the Olympics amateur or U23-only and things will get a lot more interesting.

  11. bershka321

The World Cup should be tryouts for the other guys filling out the Olympic roster, so basically guys who’ve not yet played the Olympics. Send Chet, Zion, Ja, Mitchell, Evan Mobley, etc

  12. Ill-Ad-5709

If they asked Luka: “Fuck yeah, don’t ask me stupid questions like that!”

  13. UD_Hunter

Just send a bunch of young guys with like two or three vets .

Maybe ja morant , Zion and idk a Booker or AD

  14. Silly_Stable_

It’s weird that basketball players don’t take the World Cup seriously but other sports do.

Team USA won’t be able to coast with throwing together an all-star team with no cohesion and expect to just cake-walk to gold anymore.

Too many close calls that relied on Steph heroics even this year.

I’ve been saying, Team USA needs to run an actual program like other nations do. There needs to be an expectation that you’re going to show up for off-year events and make some sacrifices for the team. We shouldn’t field a team of Johnny-come-latelies because that isn’t going to fly anymore especially now that basketball is truly taking off as a global sport.

  16. i’m not sure if when this trend continues, that just the best US players gathering for some test games and then winning the olympics will work much longer. it almost didn’t work this time and they still had lebron, steph and KD, for whom i don’t see adequate replacements in the nearer future. sure some of the younger players will still improve and grow, but I honestly think in the long run they would be better off to build up a consistent team that gets used to play with each other and grow over the years.

If they announce that 2031 FIBA world cup is in USA that means that FIBA and NBA is going to sell Word Cup as premier competition in future.

LA Olympics is going to be last in this format.

  18. kb24fgm41

If they don’t bring their A++ players they won’t win the world cup lol

  19. IndividualHelpful820

Edwards: worlds-I got to put in work try to carry team. Olympic-free gold. 10/10 only going for the free gold.

“Nah, getting owned once was enough for me!”

  21. Are we ever gonna chip in fiba again? We had the dream team and there were 3 teams that legit played the best team we could throw out there hard. Imagine our 2nd or 3rd like last time

  22. USA is definitely gonna fall short at World Cups for the foreseeable future if the top guys view it as a second class tournament.

  23. superbolt21

I cannot for the life of me understand how American players and fans view the World Championship as this dumb waste of time, watch another country win it and then immediately go “yeah but we’re still better”. Imagine being selected to represent your country as one of the best basketball players in the nation, and the world for that matter, to play for the title of World Champions, and you turn around and say “hell nah”. It should be an honor to represent your country, your people and all the players that came before you, the way it is in football, not just some waste of time. If Americans ever wonder why neutrals cheer against them its not because they are better or because their players are unlikeable, but rather that it actually means something to players from countries like South Sudan, Serbia, Germany, Australia. You will watch those players die for their country on the court while Americans turn and say “hell nah” for the same honors.

  24. Charliebitme1234

interesting to see how the USA will perform without daddy steph/lebron/kd

  25. Play for a tourny no one cares about? Of course not

  26. realfakejames

Anthony Edward won an Olympic gold medal with the goat Lebron, arguably the best pg ever Steph Curry and his fav player KD, why would he downgrade and play with a bunch of 2nd tier guys in the World Cup lmao

  27. ObliteratedSkyline

Someone correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t the format of the World Cup conducive to more competitive ball assuming all teams got optimum participation? Like yea there’s some scrubs you get to beat on early on but there’s a good 3-4 Europeans teams who can’t qualify for the Olympics who would all be better than any other team the other FIBA regions could muster excluding Australia.

  28. BKtoDuval

With the international talent pool getting so much deeper, I wonder if one day the FIBA World Cup would become a bigger deal than the Olympics.

  29. Alternative_Chef_776

Booker almost 10 years in the league only 27 yrs old. By all standards entering his prime, I think USA is in great hands we going to be favs in 28’, A lot of these guys are more familiar with the Fiba rules than they get credit for. USA still has 19u teams and such.
