The Key Warriors' Stakeholders* understands the current roster isn't championship-caliber:
* Key Warriors' Stakeholders = Mike Dunleavy Jr, Joe Lacob, Kirk Lacob
Steve Kerr coached that team. Mike Dunleavy was in attendance. Draymond Green was roaring from the middle of the bleachers. Joe Lacob and Kirk Lacob followed from afar. The key Warriors’ stakeholders grasp Curry’s sustained greatness and, team sources said, there is an internal understanding that his current supporting cast can’t be considered a finished product if the 2025 NBA championship is believed to be a reachable goal.
Steph knows about everything and isn't concerned about the team (for now):
Curry was in on the recruitment of George. Dunleavy keeps him in the loop on the options and ultimate personnel decisions. Curry hasn’t, team sources said, expressed any signs of panic or unrest. But there’s a choice of action or inaction in the coming months that’ll give a clearer hint about his long-term mindset.
Steph is taking a Post-Olympics break from basketball and won't talk about his potential 1-yr $62.6 mil extension til later:
Curry is eligible for a one-year, $62.6 million extension to his contract, which has two seasons and $115.3 million left. He flew back from Paris a few days ago and plans to unplug from basketball-related business for a few weeks. So any contract conversation isn’t expected to take place in the near future, league sources said. It’ll be entirely on Curry’s preferred timeline. The deadline to extend is Oct. 21.
From the Warriors’ side, it isn’t nearly as complicated as their more recent contract extensions or future. If Curry wants to tack on that extra year anywhere up to that max of $62.6 million, the Warriors would be willing. It’s a position they’ve maintained privately and publicly.
Warriors still believe they did Improve even if not championship-caliber (at least analytically):
The Warriors believe they improved this summer, team sources emphasized, basing that partially on internal number models that gave a positive-value thumbs-up to the additions of Melton, Anderson and Hield. A few analytics-driven employees from around the league agree. One rival’s metric model had Golden State fourth in the conference. The Warriors’ 46 wins a season ago through turbulence stood only five back of the fifth spot (Clippers, 51 wins).
Some info on how far the Lauri Markannen trade talks (or even availability) actually went:
Maybe Brandin Podziemski or the exact amount of firsts would’ve eventually been the swing factor in deeper Markkanen negotiations, sparking an internal debate. But it never reached that stage, team sources said. Markkanen signed an extension in Utah, and several sources from multiple inquiring teams said they believe, in retrospect, this was always the Jazz’s intended outcome. Markkanen’s true availability was a mirage.

During these olympics, especially the last 2 games, you can see how much he relishes being out there when stakes are the highest, and performing when the lights are brightest. Something he hasnt felt in 2 years since our chip. from lebron to kd and now going back to danthony melton and kyle anderson I can see definitely see him get frustrated with another middling season with no stakes other than a shot at a play in
The second to last comment I feel is being lost in the discussion of this team. This team likely isn’t championship caliber, but you’d think this team is set to struggle for 35-40 wins when 50 seems more than reasonably possible
I feel like the Warriors are a little lucky right now that Lebron and KD are in similar situations. Curry’s frustration level would be higher if those 2 were contending.
I think this years roster as currently constructed is first round exit on the low side and second round exit is the ceiling. I can see them beating pelicans/kings/suns/memphis in a 7 game series. Maybe even throw the lakers into that. However; Denver, Minnesota, OKC, Dallas? Nope, no way they compete as currently constructed. Maybe could take a game or 2 with hot shooting or standout performance, but not winning 4. I really think the front office knows this and I also don’t think adding Lauri would even change this much, which they know as well. Short of getting another top tier star, this roster would need some crazy luck to compete beyond first round. I think we just appreciate Steph while we can, hope (I’m laughing at myself for even typing this) Draymond just plays ball and stays outta trouble, Wiggins bounces back, and JK has another big jump. I think the Olympics should have shown us all just how fun basketball can be when we don’t hate on everyone all the time. Let’s just enjoy the hoops and hope Steph/warriors can pull off another miracle, I just don’t see them getting much better. Sorry, KD ain’t coming back and no one else is coming either. Hope I’m wrong, but just don’t see it
Late August non news before dude goes on vacation
Realistically, they have until the deadline to get something done, but early season performance will definitely be a factor in this. If they come out strong, they’ll buy themselves some time to find the best deal, but if they struggle, I’d imagine panic and frustration will build up very quickly.
Just hopping in here to say fuck Danny ainge
He’ll likely do one-year contracts moving forward like LeBron does.
I also like that Curry is trying to blow things up for a do or die season. That shit always backfires when a star takes over and makes roster decisions. LeBron and KD have both gutted teams to try and make it fly and it’s not gone well.
They had a bad season full of drama and were still 10 games over .500. If draymond doesn’t get suspended and klay doesn’t get salty they are a 4-6 seed. Everyone just needs to relax. There was no move to make. Lauri was not realistically available and he wanted to stay in utah.
Like I said before. If we don’t get a #2 option in the next 7 months. He gone.
This roster is just as good as the 22 squad, on paper at least. If Podz and Kuminga take a playoff leap, and Dray and Wiggins actually show up, there is no reason to think it can’t be replicated with some luck. At the end of the day, I think this team has a very small shot at getting there, but not out of the realm of possibility and not as cooked as this sub might declare.
I do agree that Melton, Buddy, and Anderson are a net positive to losing CP3 and Klay. Maybe not Championship lock, but more of a playoff spot lock. It really comes down to if Kuminga, Trayce, and Podz can take that extra step to elevate the team. Kuminga especially, but we’ll just have to see.
It might not be a championship team on paper but theres good potential there. There’s also the high possibility that all of the young players take a big leap that pushes the team into contention
If this guy takes a leap if if if if if if . Trade deadline , we tried .
“The Warriors are a play-in team but Steph isn’t currently upset about it because he just won a gold medal and the season hasn’t even started.”
I think it’s easy to be chill right now. But, when this team is a 500 team in December, and Draymond has been suspended indefinitely, the discourse will be different.
>The Warriors believe they improved this summer, team sources emphasized, basing that partially on **internal number models that gave a positive-value thumbs-up**
Oh well thank god! If the numbers model says they’re better, case closed, no need to worry. 😂

He gone either with a trade or at the end of his contract, and it’s understandable, the man is soon to be 37, and doesn’t even have a reliable 2nd since kd is gone lol
Wiggs has shown that he can be the #2. Why can’t you do it every year for us 😓😓😓
When have the warriors extended anybody 2 seasons early
I honestly think its time to let go of Draymond.
Slater is just getting worse at phrasing sentences.
I personally don’t think there is much Warriors can do. Wiggins is the biggest X factor. If he is the same as last year, it won’t matter who else we remove and add.
If he can go back to 2022 Wiggins, our team probably already is good enough.
I think the Warriors did get better this off season but probably only marginally. What I would love to see is a second scorer/creator brought in. Which is the obvious thing.
