Wemby, no question. Next up, who has the most wasted potential in Spurs history?

Josh Primo, even if he didn’t have a crazy ceiling he wasted all of his potential

All y’all saying Primo, I have one question:

    What fucking potential lol

I’ll take an alternative angle and say Kawhi. He won a title and a FMVP but potentially left a lot on the table by leaving the way he did.

Edit – lol 3 people took the exact same angle as me within a minute. I’m not special.

I’m coming from this from another angle, but I’m going to argue Kawhi. If he stuck around, and he stayed healthy (this is a big if), we could have continued this dynasty after the Big 3. So from a franchise perspective, Kawhi leaving wasted a lot of potential for this team.

And to bring it back to his injury history, if we look at Kawhi’s entire body of work, seeing how dominant he was before he really became injury prone, Kawhi has the physical tools to have become the best player in the league, and he arguribly you could say he held that title for a brief moment, but injuries wasted his potential in a way, bringing him down a couple tiers from players in the GOAT conversation.

I know everyone is saying Primo, but I have to say Kawhi easily. Had his uncle not interfered and actually listened to the trainers, dude may have even more rings and wouldn’t have such a bad reputation like he does now.

Dejounte Murray. Clearly has the tools to be an All-Star but took way too long to get there and was overall a huge waste of time for the Spurs. He had as many years as “the guy” as Tony Parker.

I still believe the answer is Luka Samanic. Very tall, very athletic for his height, great jump shot form. Had the ability to put the ball of the floor.

But he always looked like he didn’t even care about basketball. I thought he was going to turn into a monster.

Willie Anderson. Man came out gangbusters his rookie year. Then progressively got worse as the team got better (Admiral, Elliott, et al.) Injuries didn’t help.

Dennis rodman. We traded him to the bulls and he was a huge part of their champion runs in the 90s.

That Kawhi timeline where he’s injury free and remained a Spur would have been glorious. So imho he was a huge potential that laid to waste.

Looking at just their time as a Spur?
    Richard Jefferson

I was young but at the time I just felt he wasted a few years of our Big 3s potential too.

Kawhi for sure – health issues really stunted his career

I love this guy, but I gotta say Lonnie. He would have games where he balled out, and every play was a highlight, but then he’d be mid for weeks straight. He was being compared to Manu when he started coming off the bench and having those good games. The inconsistencies were too much unfortunately.

lololol stack5 mad as hell driving around sa in his camo car.

  15. Manny210

    Richard Jefferson or Luka Samanic.

I could also argue Boris Diaw. He was really good but I believe he had enough talent to be multi time all star

I’m going to say kawhi because he would’ve kept them on top and in the mix had it not come to an end so soon.

I’ll mention one I haven’t seen, Luis Scola. We could have really used him and he played like a Spur, had him under contract but never brought him over.
