The league isn’t ready for the Max breakout year. Him playing consistent minutes will be huge for the team.

He’s a 3 and D guard that we desperately need. He will thrive off the bench in that role, and I would not be surprised if he is eventually promoted to the starting line up.

they’re shocked because they don’t watch the lakers all season.

  3. sEiize_err

have they seen how jacked he is? should’ve gotten more than lebron

  4. While ‘some’ may find the Lakers decision to sign Max Christie to a $32M deal surprising, to me it seems like a strategic move for both the present and future. As a young ‘3 and D’ guard, Christie fits the modern NBA mold as someone who can space the floor with shooting and contribute defensively. He has shown the ability to thrive in multiple roles off the bench gives the Lakers much needed versatility, especially on a veteran-heavy roster.

Rob and the office likely see this as a long-term investment, betting on Christie’s potential to grow into a key player. If he develops as expected, the deal could end up being a bargain or at least a payoff.

How are you all so sure this isn’t THT syndrome? Anyone can “look” good in tiny spurts

  6. indogunawan

I’m ok with the contract. What I don’t like is the player option. Rob gives them away like candy.

Max is interesting because he is a good 3&D player but he has much to improve in almost every other area. He’s not very good driving to the rim, not a great dribbler, not a great passer, sometimes gets pressured into making bad passes. While most 3&D players can plug and play on any team, Christie doesn’t because of his limited skill set. His skill set works great on the Lakers with Lebron and AD, but his market was smaller than people might have thought.

This reminds me of the eagles giving Mailata a big extension with very little play time. Let’s hope it works out the same

  9. danzag333

There’s a reason this guy is a former NBA exec lol

  10. juicewar01

Shocking but doesn’t mean he is shit. Its a good deal given his age too

  11. Nijee302

He deserves it but Darvin Ham is a idiot for not giving any minutes

  12. Bahamut727

8m a year for a young 3&D guard? Doesn’t seem like a shocking thing to do. If he sucks, it’s 8m. His contract becomes pure salary filler then which is so tiny compared to a rapidly increasing salary cap. If he’s good, it’s a steal

  13. LakerDoc

Who were they competing against? Just match the best offer. I doubt he would be getting 32M AND player option.

I like Max so it’s not the worst move, but a smaller misstep in a greater incompetence that is the Lakers FO.

Including those on rookie deals, he’s the 209th paid player and only 21. I see it as a win win. Either he plays At/above it and it’s a good deal or we’re able to attach him as salary in some deal

  15. puffindatza

We’ve been a mediocre franchise for a while now. Since Dr buss died, nothing shocking at all

This is the same team that signed and chose THT over Caruso

  16. greg_uhhh

Max Christie is very good, Ham not giving him minutes with extended Reddish/Prince runs was criminal.

I’d be shocked if that didn’t prove to be an incredible value almost immediately. He should be in the 8 man rotation.

  17. bigbadbernard

I watch Lakers games – I like Christie. He has starter potential.

These people offering opinions look at boxscores.

Of course they are, Max hasn’t really proven much in the NBA. The only redeeming part of the contract is that it’s only 8m/y so it’s a pretty low bar in terms of expectations

DPM has him at about 30th percentile among SGs, and his 3p% was 31.5% when he played >20 minutes. He’s yet to prove he’s better than Cam Reddish

  19. bruticuslee

What other two way players do we have that are good at both offense and can defend besides Bron and AD? He might potentially be the most “complete” role player we have.

  20. iamthecheesethatsbig

What has he done to earn that contract?

  21. WeCantBothBeMe

If he turns out to be the 3&D player he should be then he’ll be underpaid. If not then it shouldn’t be a hard contract to trade since he’s still young and you can sell teams on the upside of his potential for $8 mil/year. Either way the contract is fine.

If he was on a young team getting actual playing time he’d probably would’ve played himself into a better contract.

  22. rational_overthinker

Max needs minutes. I just want to see how his game has progressed.

  23. No-Chemistry-5356

It is surprising considering he hasn’t produced and the timing of it considering Lebrons window. Front office’s plan is to just pray he becomes a starting caliber player in an offseason because we had no real moves. Please save me all the 3&D prototype talk plenty of players in the NBA have potential. Let’s just all cross our fingers and pray because that’s all we can do. I’m rooting for the kid but rn the best part about that contract is the ability to trade it.

  24. If Max breaks out, they’ll be shocked that he signed such a bargain contract

  25. JustAnObserver_Jomy

if anything, Vando and Rui are the overpaid guys on this team, both in yearly cap hit and no. of years

one is just D no 3, other is just 3 no D

  26. TheWonderfulLife

Cuz he’s not worth a fraction of that. Thats why.
