The Grizzlies waive and stretch the contract of Mamadi Diakite

The Grizzlies waived and stretched the contract of Mamadi Diakite to create an extra roster spot and to move further from the luxury tax line. Was this a good move? Does it matter? Will the Grizzlies use their open roster spot?

  1. Well said, Keith. I believe it was always just talk. As you mentioned, never used the MLE in 3 seasons. This off-season they have done the opposite of what they said they would, quadrupled down on youth, and avoided the tax. Adding 3 rookies is not the way to strengthen the playoff rotation, rookies aren't a given to produce. They could've easily added 1 real rotational piece each of the past 3 seasons and the roster would be in great shape.

This team will be a really good regular season team, but I can't see a deep playoff with this roster. Maybe Ja-Des-J3 all go nuclear at the same time, or GG takes a huge leap, but all of this is probably unlikely.

It's frustrating at times when other teams, that have had more playoff success, are going for it, while the Grizzlies are moneyballing it.
