Could Dylan Harper be the Brooklyn Nets version of Jalen Brunson?
In their ongoing set of episodes, the Locked on Nets guy take a look at incoming Rutgers freshman Dylan Harper and how he compares on the draft board to Cooper Flagg and Ace Bailey (covered in previous episodes).
There’s a lot to love about Harper’s game as a point guard with size, vision, and defensive acumen. He’s drawn comparisons to Jalen Brunson for a number of different reasons. Do those comps make sense? The Locked on Nets guys break it all down.

Listen there is no doubt Dylan Harper is the best IQ point guard in this upcoming 2025 draft but to compare him to a Jalen Brunson or a James Harden is a big stretch considering the offensive dominance they have both shown….😮
But Harper could definitely be the future PG for Brooklyn if they select him. He would be a floor general that could help organize the Nets on offense. Him and Thomas at the 1 and the 2 could be an interesting combination and having Thomas as an off ball scorer could give him even more room to operate 🔥.
Plus Harper could offensively feed lobs to Claxton and Clowney and get the bigs involved more offensively.
The only potential worries are Harper and Thomas as a defensive backcourt. Harper and Thomas both don't possess high level quickness and that could lead to some problems against quicker offensive opponents….
The player Adam was trying to remember is Kessler Edwards. Still with the Kings, I think.
Looking at Harper's overall strengths he's got a decent height at 6 6 which is not bad for a PG who has the potential to be offensively dominant one day. But the 6 10 wingspan is even more impressive. Harper can draw fouls and score off of contact 🔥…. He makes good decisions on the court as a playmaker, can do pick and roll plays well with bigger teammates, makes some solid assist passes and has a balanced pass/turnover ratio as well. His rebounding is an underrated part of his skillset as well.
Some potential weaknesses with Harper again is he's not the quickest point guard and that combination with Thomas who isn't the quickest as well in the backcourt could be a potential problem against quicker opponents especially ones wifi high level athleticism. Harper is not a usual above the rim player or explosive leaper which could hurt him in some matchups against top tier opponents 😮….
His three point scoring and free throw shooting can use some improvement as well as also finishing at the rim with more refined technique….
Overall if Brooklyn did draft Harper his success on this team would depend on Thomas and Claxton taking big leaps on improving on their weaknesses and the talent Nets management surrounds him with on the team 😮🤔….
If Brooklyn does select Dylan Harper they would need to address the hole at the 3 and could potentially give Jalen Wilson a crack at the position.
However one draft prospect Brooklyn should think about is Carter Bryant. Bryant is 6 8 225 pounds 🔥 and has strength, athletic ability, quickness, passing and physicality….
Bryant has the raw abilities as a small forward that could translate well on a rebuilding Brooklyn squad 👍….
Dylan Harper is the player the Nets need to focus on. He's from JERSEY!!! The Jersey fan base needs to be reinvigorated. We been waiting for a player like this FOREVER!!!! The Brooklyn Nets were too worried about taking over New York. We're Brooklyn's team, Not New York's. Our fan base is Brooklyn, Jersey and Long Island. We don't need anything else.
only if we pick 5
If you put a gun to my head and said who's most likely to become an all star in this draft I actually think it's him. I think cooper flagg has a higher ceiling but the effortless scoring and good playmaking of harper combined with his size just reminds me so much of that luka and james harden build. Obviously the shooting has to be there and there's a long road to go but just looking at him and from what I've seen on film as of today I can see this guy averaging 20-25 a night at a bare minimum with good playmaking in the NBA.
kessler edwards at the 16 min mark?
Kessler Edwards
I appreciate Adam Armbrecht quoting the great Jimi Hendrix at the end of this pod cast. Doug Norrie followed by saying, " another one of the all time great poets." LMAO When I was a teenager, I seen Jimi Hendrix in a concert. I, and countless others, consider him to be the greatest guitarist that's ever lived. He was a force of nature.
So far, based on a small sample, Dylan Harper is the apple of my eye. I'll keep my final opinion of him until after he do the college thing.
It's more difficult to find high quality point/combo guards than any other position. Hopefully the Nets make that their top priority since they'll, more than likely wont be re-signing Simmons or Schroder after next season.
So much is being discussed about the order that prospects will be drafted next year. Hall of famer Larry Bird was a 6th overall pick. Hall of famers Michael Jordan and Kevin Mchale were 3rd overall picks. Kent Benson was a 1st pick of the 1st round. It's what a player do in the NBA after they're picked rather than the order picked.
I think dylan harper fits the nets greatly. A playmaking guard with size who can defend multiple positions and slide right next to cam. Draft him, then sign brandon ingram to a reasonable deal, and the nets are right back in the playoff hunt for the 25-26 season.
As of now, I have Cooper Flagg and Ace Bailey about even at the top…then right behind them Dylan Harper. Rutgers will be interesting to watch this year.
